Pharmacological treatments of diabetic ulcers remain a huge challenge due to the impaired angiogenesis and uncontrolled bacterial infection. Here, iminopyrazine-based Fe-covalent organic frameworks (Fe-COF) were synthesized via a subcomponent assembly strategy, and functionalized through covalent modification of L-arginine and encapsulated with photosensitizer IR780 and hyaluronic acid for enhancing diabetic wound healing. The functionalized Fe-COF (Fe-COF NRs) showed peroxidase-like activity and near-infrared (NIR)-controlled NO generation property, which can be used for synergistic photothermal/photodynamic antibacterial therapy and NO-based gas therapy. Treatment with Fe-COF NRs + NIR caused pathogenic elimination and enhanced angiogenesis, subsequently leading to accelerated wound healing in a rat model of infected diabetic wound. Mechanistically, the results from RNA sequencing analysis indicated that Fe-COF NRs treatment significantly induced the expression of genes involved in angiogenesis, but obviously inhibited the expression of proinflammatory cytokines. Gene Ontology enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis revealed that collagen-containing extracellular matrix, hair follicle development, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, wound healing and skin development were significantly enriched after Fe-COF NRs treatment. Taken together, Fe-COF NRs provide a novel therapeutic strategy for the treatment of infected diabetic wound.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have emerged as a promising treatment option for antibacterial and biofilm eradication. However, their therapeutic efficacy is significantly hampered by the unique microenvironments of diabetic wounds. In this study, we designed and synthesized porphyrin-based Fe covalent organic frameworks (Fe-COF) through a Schiff base condensation reaction. Subsequently, Fe-COF were encapsulated with hyaluronic acid (HA) through electrostatic adsorption, resulting in a novel formulation named HA-Fe-COF for diabetic wound healing. HA-Fe-COF were engineered to respond to hyaluronidase in the infected wound, leading to the controlled release of Fe-COF. Those released Fe-COF served a dual role as photosensitizers, generating singlet oxygen and localized heating when exposed to dual light sources. Additionally, they acted as peroxidase-like nanozymes, facilitating the production of ROS through enzymatic reactions. This innovative approach enabled a synergistic therapeutic effect combining photodynamic, photothermal, and chemodynamic modalities. Furthermore, the sustained release of HA from HA-Fe-COF promoted angiogenesis, collagen deposition, and re-epithelialization during the diabetic wound healing process. This “all-in-one” strategy offers a novel approach for the development of antimicrobial and biofilm eradication strategies that minimize damage to healthy tissues in vivo.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are effective materials for water treatment membranes due to their tunable pore structures and high compatibility. While composite modification strategies combining plant polyphenol tannic acid (TA)-Fe³⁺ and COFs show great promise for TFC membranes, they typically involve organic solvents or complex pre-modification of the fillers. In this study, a green, fully-aqueous layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly strategy was employed to prepare TA-Fe(COF-LZU1)/PES membranes. By exploiting the inherent synergy between the rigid crystalline channels of COF-LZU1 and the adhesive TA-Fe network, this approach directly utilizes pristine COF-LZU1 without secondary modification. Unlike conventional methods, the entire process avoids organic solvents, offering a highly sustainable technical alternative. The incorporation of COF-LZU1 significantly enhanced the membrane surface properties, with surface roughness increasing from 17.0 ± 2.2 nm to 43.8 ± 8.5 nm and the water contact angle decreasing from 77.0 ± 1.6° to 20.0 ± 1.0°, thereby substantially improving the membrane’s hydrophilicity. The TA-Fe(COF-LZU1)/PES membrane achieved a pure water permeance of 35.85 L·m - ²·h - ¹·bar - ¹, representing a 11.5% increase over the TA-Fe/PES membrane. It exhibited excellent separation performance, achieving high rejections of 98.3% for Direct Red 80, and further demonstrated robust stability in mixed dye/salt solutions. In five-cycle bovine serum albumin (BSA) tests, the membrane exhibited improved antifouling durability, yielding a flux recovery ratio of 75.5%. Additionally, it operated stably across a pH range of 4–8. This green self-assembly approach provides a practical strategy for preparing composite membranes for dye wastewater treatment.

Transition metal fluorides because of the high electronegativity of fluorine may enhance the local electron density of the metal sites and promote water molecule dissociation and charge transfer. However, enhancing the intrinsic activity of fluorides to improve material stability remains a challenge. Herein, we develop an innovative four-step synthetic strategy (electrochemical deposition → co-precipitation → ligand exchange → in situ fluorination) to engineer three-dimensional porous Fe-doped CoF 2 nanocubes vertically anchored on MXene (Fe-CoF 2 /MXene/NF). This breakthrough achievement lies in the construction of a rapid mass transfer structure: porous cubes increase the contact area of reactants and create convection channels to achieve rapid bubble separation. The synergistic effect of Fe-doped CoF 2 and MXene not only optimizes the adsorption of intermediates but also promotes rapid electron transfer at the interface, and robust structural robustness. Remarkably, the optimized catalyst achieves low overpotentials of 121 mV (hydrogen evolution reaction, HER) and 210 mV (oxygen evolution reaction, OER) at 10 mA cm −2 , surpassing most reported transition metal fluorides. Notably, it enables efficient overall water splitting at an ultralow cell voltage of 1.52 V (10 mA cm −2 ) while maintaining 98 % activity after 100-h continuous operation. This work establishes a synergistic strategy to enhance catalytic activity by simultaneously modulating electronic configurations and accelerating charge transfer kinetics, achieved through rational structural design integrating organic framework derivatization, the coupling of metal doping with interfacial engineering.
