The Fe 3+ -modified 1, 8-naphthalic anhydride (Fe-NA) was prepared, and thereafter successfully grafted on the mesoporous surface of bimodal mesopores material (BMMs) by post-synthesis method. The influence of various parameters, including amount of Fe 3+ ion, various solvents, different concentrations and loadings of FC-NA on the fluorescence behavior of resultant hybrid materials (FC-NA grafted BMMs) was investigated, and then its fluorescence properties were compared to the parent FC-NA. Meanwhile, their structural properties and photoluminescence performances were investigated using various characterizations XRD , TEM , SEM, SAXS , FT-IR, TGA, ICP-OES, elemental analysis , N 2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, and fluorescence measurement. The results showed that the mesoporous structural integrity was remained intact after introduction of FC-NA in the mesoporous channels of APTES-BMMs. Particularly, SAXS patterns revealed the mass fractal dimension of the hybrid FC-NA@BMMs were gradually increased with increasing loaded amount of FC-NA, and resulted in the uneven distribution and self-similarity fractal features. The fluorescence profiles exhibited the occurrence of red-shifts and then blue-shifts of characteristic peak with increasing grafted FC-NA amount. These shifts demonstrated a highly aggregation on the amine-modified mesoporous surface of APTES-BMMs when the obtained mass ratio of FC-NA/AP-BMMs was lower than 0.2, whereas a uniform monodispersion distribution was observed when the mass ratio got higher than 0.2. The obtained functionalized mesoporous materials with enhanced fluorescence intensity have a potential application in drug sustained/controlled delivery systems.
Solketal is known as a promising non-BPA plasticizer . However, fast and robust synthesis of solketal from bio-oxygenates remains a grand challenge, as strong surface polarization often deactivates acidic catalysts. We proposed and validated a dual designing strategy, involving (1) Fe 3+ modified Bronsted acidity and (2) chlorotrimethylsilane (CTS) altered hydrophilicity for enhanced activity and stability of NaY catalysts. As one of the key findings, Fe 3+ exchanged NaYs display an unusual shortened Si-OH bond and electronically reconfigured Fe 3+ sites for a 4-fold activity enhancement. Furthermore, CTS modified FeY materials further alleviate surface passivation of glycerol and water, leading to an 18-fold activity improvement and better durability for acetalization of glycerol. CTS modified FeY catalysts display remarkable stability against varies impurity molecules. The dual modification methodology provides useful information on rational design of durable catalysts for synthesis of various other non-BPA derivatives.
A series of functional fibers have been prepared by modifying a commercially available polyacrylonitrilefiber (PANF) with polyamines such as ethylenediamine, tetraethylenepentamine and hyperbranched polyethylenimine (HPEI), and then used to coordinate with Fe3+, respectively, to produce Fe-modified PAN fiber complexes. The chemical structures of modified PANFs were verified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). X-ray Diffraction (XRD) characterization showed that the inner crystal region of PANF was damaged during the introduction of amine groups.. Organic elemental analysis results to a certain extent demonstrate the success of modification. The coordination of Fe3+ was verified by Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS). The Fe-modified PAN fiber complexes were were used to eliminate the color from synthetic reactive dye wastewater (SRDW, including Reactive Red 195, RR 195) under normal conditions. This study presents a valuable route towards wastewater treatment in dyeing and finishing.
