Protein phosphorylation is one of the most important post-translational modifications. It is an active research area to study phosphoproteomics for discovery of disease biomarkers and druggable targets. Here we report the development of superparamagnetic Fe 3 O 4 @mZrO 2 core-shell microspheres with mesoporous structures for highly efficient enrichment of phosphopeptides. We have demonstrated that the mesoporous ZrO 2 layer dramatically improves the selective enrichment of phosphopeptides. Our approach allows for in-situ elution and sensitive identification of both mono-phosphorylated and multi-phosphorylated peptides in MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, with the detection limit of down to the femtomole range. The target phosphopeptides can reliably be enriched for MS analysis from various complex samples including the spiked protein digests and tumor cell lysates. The Fe 3 O 4 @mZrO 2 core-shell microspheres promise a useful tool for phosphoproteomics by allowing for highly efficient and selective enrichment of the crucial signaling regulators in a low abundance.

In this study, a facile and efficient approach was proposed for fabricating magnetically separable core-shell structured nanocomposites consisting of a magnetic Fe 3 O 4 core, a mesoporous ZrO 2 (mZrO 2 ) interlayer and an outer Ag nanoparticles shell using a sol-gel process and a wet chemistry method at ambient condition, and the hydrothermal treatment . The resulting Fe 3 O 4 /mZrO 2 /Ag nanocomposites were analyzed by TEM and SEM images, XPS , EDX and XRD spectra. Their photocatalytic activity was examined for the degradation of methylene blue under UV light . The effect of initial concentration, catalyst dosage and pH value was investigated and the results were discussed. Fe 3 O 4 /mZrO 2 /Ag nanocomposites showed higher photocatalytic activity, compared with Fe 3 O 4 /mZrO 2 composites. The PL analysis revealed Fe 3 O 4 /mZrO 2 composites possessed the enhanced separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs in comparison with Fe 3 O 4 /mZrO 2 . Moreover, the Fe 3 O 4 /mZrO 2 /Ag nanocomposites can be easily separated and recycled with an external magnetic field, and so they present remarkable reusability.

Herein we report a novel method to exfoliate graphite to thin structure by depositing nanoparticles. Graphite was oxidated to graphite oxide (GO), and then nano Fe 3 O 4 @mZrO 2 was loaded and inserted between GO sheets as GO being reduced to reduced graphite oxide (rGO) in one step by hydro-thermal co-precipitation. As-obtained nanocomposite Fe 3 O 4 @mZrO 2 /rGO was characterized by SEM, TEM, AFM, FT-IR, BET, XRD, VSM and EDX techniques. The microscopic studies show the thickness of Fe 3 O 4 @mZrO 2 /rGO sheet is significant thinner than that of rGO sheet. Evidences indicate the presence of nano Fe 3 O 4 @mZrO 2 effectively preserves rGO sheets from stacking and forming thick structure. Amaranth was used as a model contamination to investigate the adsorption ability of the nanocomposite due to its hazardness. It shows effective adsorption ability. Based on all the evidence shown in studies, a possible mechanism for the adsorbent composing and its amaranth adsorption was postulated.

In this study, iron oxide (Fe3O4) was coated with ZrO2, and doped with three rare earth elements((Y/La/Ce), and a multi-staged rare earth doped zirconia adsorbent was prepared by using uniform design U14, Response Surface methodology, and orthogonal design, to remove As3+and As5+from the aqueous solution. Based on the results of TEM, EDS, XRD, FTIR, and N2-adsorption desorption test, the best molar ratio of Fe3O4:TMAOH:Zirconium butoxide:Y:La:Ce was selected as 1:12:11:1:0.02:0.08. The specific surface area and porosity was 263 m2/g, and 0.156 cm3/g, respectively. The isothermal curves and fitting equation parameters show that Langmuir model, and Redlich Peterson model fitted well. As per calculations of the Langmuir model, the highest adsorption capacities for As3+and As5+ions were recorded as 68.33 mg/g, 84.23 mg/g, respectively. The fitting curves and equations of the kinetic models favors the quasi second order kinetic model. Material regeneration was very effective, and even in the last cycle the regeneration capacities of both As3+and As5+were 75.15%, and 77.59%, respectively. Adsorption and regeneration results suggest that adsorbent has easy synthesis method, and reusable, so it can be used as a potential adsorbent for the removal of arsenic from aqueous solution. Keywords:magnetic Fe3O4;uniform design;surface response methodology;multi-staged doping;arsenic (III & V) removal
