Graphene supported FeS2 nanoparticles with sandwich structure as a promising anode for High-Rate Potassium-Ion batteries

Xinyu Zhou,Ziwei Wang,Yajun Wang,Fan Du,Yinhuan Li,Yaqiong Su,Mingyue Wang,Mingming Ma,Guorui Yang,Shujiang Ding

Pyrite FeS 2 now emerges as a promising anode for potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) due to its low cost and high theoretical capacity. However, the significant volume expansion, low electrical conductivity, and the ambiguous mechanism related to potassium storage severely hinder its development for PIBs anodes. Herein, FeS 2 nanostructures are skillfully dispersed on the graphene surface layer by layer (FeS 2 @C-rGO) to form a sandwich structure by using Fe-based metal organic framework (Fe-MOF) as precursors. The unique structural design can improve the transfer kinetics of K + and effectively buffer the volume expansion during cycling, thereby enhancing the potassium storage performance. As a result, the FeS 2 @C-rGO delivers a high capacity of 550 mAh/g at a current density of 0.1 A/g. At a high rate of 2 A/g, the capacity can maintain 171 mAh/g even after 500 cycles. Moreover, the electrochemical reaction mechanism and potassium storage behavior are revealed by in-situ X-ray diffractionand density functional theory calculations. This work not only provides a novel insight into the structural design of electrode materials for high-performance PIBs, but also proposes a valuable understanding of the potassium storage mechanism of the FeS 2 -based anode.

A Hybrid of FeS2 Nanoparticles Encapsulated by Two-Dimensional Carbon Sheets as Excellent Nanozymes for Colorimetric Glucose Detection

Wei Ding,Haibo Liu,Weiwen Zhao,Jie Wang,Linlin Zhang,Yuewei Yao,Cheng Yao,Chan Song

Recently, the development of nanozymes with high catalytic performance is gaining more and more attention due to the ever-growing demands for their practical applications. The elaborate design of its morphology has demonstrated to be an effective approach to improve the performance of these nanozymes. Herein, a hybrid of iron disulfide nanoparticles (FeS2 NPs) encapsulated by two-dimensional (2D) carbon nanosheets (NSs), denoted as FeS2@C NSs, demonstrates both superior peroxidase-like activity and excellent stability. The incorporation of 2D carbon sheets endows the proposed FeS2@C nanozymes with high specific surface area, providing abundant active sites to facilitate the contact with substrates. Moreover, the embedded FeS2 NPs are kept from aggregation due to the encapsulation and confinement of 2D carbon sheets, avoiding the conventional failure of single-component nanozymes. Based on glucose oxidase (GOx) and the elaborately designed FeS2@C nanozymes, a colorimetric method for glucose detection is then developed with excellent simplicity and sensitivity. The detection limit of the sensing platform is as low as 0.19 μM for a glucose assay. More notably, this method can be successfully employed for the glucose assay in some real samples, indicating the great potential of this FeS2@C NS-based nanozymes in the fields of biotechnology and clinical diagnostics.

Multifunctional platinum-doped porous FeS2 nanoparticles for photothermal-enhanced photodynamic ferroptosis combination therapy

M. Feng,S. Xiao,Z. Liu,M. Li,X. Zhang,X. Chen,Y. Zhang,B. Chen,J. Liu

Explorations on ferroptosis combined with other tumor therapies have attracted much attention in recent years. To enhance the cargo-loaded capacity of the nanoparticles and integrate the ferroptosis as well as apoptosis, here, we reported the Pt-doped porous FeS 2 nanoparticles (Pt/pFeS 2 NPs) synthesized by the solvothermal method to realize the photothermal-enhanced photodynamic/ferroptosis antitumor combination therapy, with glucose oxidase (GOX)-loaded and 4T1 cell membrane-coated as the multifunctional Pt/pFeS 2 @ [email protected] nanovesicles (NVs). The porous structure provided more sites for Fenton reaction as well as photodynamic effect, which dramatically improve the level of reactive oxygen species . Additionally, the loaded GOX enhanced the generation of endogenous hydrogen peroxide and reduced the pH value of the tumor microenvironment, further promoting the Fenton reaction for ferroptosis. Moreover, Pt catalyzed the degradation of hydrogen peroxide to release oxygen, even facilitating the photodynamic therapy efficacy in the hypoxic tumor microenvironment. The rate of Fenton reaction and photocatalytic reaction were both significantly improved, leading to the acceleration of ferroptosis and photodynamic therapy with the increase of temperature under laser irradiation at 808 nm. Additionally, the in vivo antitumor therapy proved that Pt/pFeS 2 @ [email protected] NVs efficiently accumulated at tumor sites for photoacoustic imaging. To sum up, the multifunctional Pt/pFeS 2 @ [email protected] NVs could achieve photothermal-enhanced photodynamic/ferroptosis combination antitumor therapy and significantly inhibit the growth of 4T1 tumor without side-effects, shedding light on the promising application in photoacoustic image-guided tumor therapy system.

Multifunctional FeS2 theranostic nanoparticles for photothermal-enhanced chemodynamic/photodynamic cancer therapy and photoacoustic imaging

Shuting Xiao,Yao Lu,Miao Feng,Ming Dong,Zhong Cao,Xiaoge Zhang,You Chen,Jie Liu

Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) mediated by reactive oxygen species (ROS) hold great potential for cancer therapy. However, they are still limited by rigorous reaction conditions of efficacious Fenton reaction , reliance on oxygen, and inherent defects of traditional common photosensitizers (PSs). Herein, we reported an L-Buthionine-sulfoximine (BSO) modified FeS 2 nanoparticles (BSO-FeS 2 NPs) with enhanced ROS generation under single wavelength (808 nm) laser irradiation. First, FeS 2 NPs showed high photothermal conversion efficiency (49.5%) and enhanced O 2 − and OH generation capability via direct electron transfer presenting photothermal-improved Fenton reaction and photocatalytic ability. With the BSO modification, BSO-FeS 2 NPs could inhibit the synthesis of glutathione (GSH) and accelerate the accumulation of ROS, which further enhanced the PDT/CDT treatment efficacy and resulted in high in vivo tumor inhibition rate (95%). Second, BSO-FeS 2 NPs could activate the repolarization of macrophages from M2 to M1 for potential tumor immunotherapy. Last, BSO-FeS 2 NPs showed good performance on photoacoustic imaging (PAI). All these results establish the capability of BSO-FeS 2 NPs as nano-theranostic agents in PAI guided PTT/CDT/PDT combination therapy for cancer treatment.
