FeSb2S4 is considered a potential anode material of sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to the high theoretical capacity (877 mAh g–1) and fast Na+ diffusion kinetics. Synthesis of the FeSb2S4-based anode via a simple strategy is essential for practical applications. In this study, nano FeSb2S4 anchored on exfoliated graphite (FeSb2S4-G) was fabricated via a two-step strategy: heat treatment of commercial FeS+Sb2S3 powder and then ball-milling with commercial graphite. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the pulverized nano FeSb2S4 and exfoliated graphite establish the chemical bonds, which is very advantageous to boost the charge/discharge reversibility. As-prepared FeSb2S4-G delivered 577 mAh g–1 in the second cycle under 100 mA g–1 and kept 385 mAh g–1 in the 70th cycle; the cycling stability surpassed bulk FeSb2S4 (662 mAh g–1 in the 2nd cycle, 109 mAh g–1 in the 70th cycle). Considering only two steps of the synthesis processes, this work presents a viable strategy for fabricating high-performance FeSb2S4-based SIB anode materials.
Sodium-ion battery (SIB) is considered as the most likely representative battery to replace lithium-ion battery (LIB). FeSb 2 S 4 is a promising anode material for SIB with high theoretical capacity and excellent cyclic stability. Nevertheless, Our previous studies have shown that the electrochemical performance of FeSb 2 S 4 was strongly affected by the crystal phase, composition and structural morphology. Therefore, it is meaningful to optimize the electrochemical performance of FeSb 2 S 4 towards practical applications. Herein, FeSb 2 S 4 /Sb/rGO powder with high reversible capacity and improved capacity retention ratio was fabricated by using FeSb 2 S 4 compounded with Sb and rGO. Upon assembling the FeSb 2 S 4 /Sb/rGO powder into 3D discs using the CNTs and rGO as high conductive networks, physical properties of FeSb 2 S 4 /Sb/rGO disc showed that the depositional phase of FeSb 2 S 4 and Sb uniformly distributed in highly porous carbon networks. Electrochemical test results revealed that a high reversible area-specific and mass-specific capacity of 1.2 mAh cm −2 and 174.9 mAh g −1 can be obtained for the FeSb 2 S 4 /Sb/rGO disc with 1.1 mm thickness at 50 cycles and 1.0 A g −1 . This work provides a new strategy for the design of semi-conductive anodes with high-performance for SIB applications.
