A hollow zeolite encapsulated Rh catalyst Rh@H-S-1 with an “eggshell” structure was prepared using the method of organic alkali treatment and recrystallization. Compared with catalysts with directly encapsulated Rh@S-1 and surface impregnated Rh/S-1, this catalyst exhibited both superior activity and a higher TOF value in hydroformylation of 1-hexene due to the high dispersion of Rh and high diffusion. The Rh element did not need to be reduced in the preparation, and it was in situ reduced by the syngas. The content of lower valence Rh δ+ gradually increased with the reaction procedure and played as an active center. The low oxidized state Rh + or Rh δ+ in the form of Rh(CO) 2 are proposed as active sites in hydroformylation, which were generated under the synergistic effect between CO and H 2 . Importantly, the hollow encapsulated catalyst effectively decreased Rh leaching to 0.1 ppm and showed better stability compared with the impregnated Rh/S-1 catalyst.

The CsCu 2 I 3 /ZnO-heterojunction-based sensor enables H 2 S detection with a response value of 0.83 at 1 ppm, with response and recovery times of 240 s and 834 s. • The CsCu 2 I 3 /ZnO heterojunction improves structural stability and ensures continuous and stable sensor response. • The CsCu 2 I 3 /ZnO-heterojunction-based sensor achieves self‐calibration for different H 2 S concentrations with 99% detection accuracy. Hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S), a colorless and toxic gas, poses serious health risks upon prolonged exposure, including damage to respiratory and cardiovascular systems, which can be fatal in severe cases. Current H 2 S sensors suffer from limited response, particularly in detecting ultra‐low concentrations. To overcome this limitation, we developed a CsCu 2 I 3 /ZnO heterojunction‐based gas sensor via vacuum evaporation. This composite material enables highly responsive H 2 S detection at room temperature. The heterojunction not only improves structural stability but also ensures continuous and stable sensor response. At 1 ppm H 2 S, the sensor exhibits a sensitivity of 0.72, the response value of 0.83, the limit of detection (LOD) of 14.25 ppb, with response and recovery times of 240 s and 834 s, respectively. Furthermore, an intelligent calibration framework was developed by integrating Gramian Angular Summation Fields with the AlexNet algorithm, operating as a robustness enhancer. The sensor achieves self‐calibration for different H 2 S concentrations with 99.33% detection accuracy through 5-Fold Cross-Validation, significantly enhancing quantification capability. These results demonstrate the excellent potential of our CsCu 2 I 3 /ZnO-heterojunction-based sensor in H 2 S monitoring. The combination of responsive materials with machine learning offers a robust strategy for advancing ultra‐low concentration gas detection technologies.

The pressing demand for environmental and health safeguarding has spurred intense enthusiasm among researchers to delve into metal oxide semiconductors (MOSs) based gas sensors. Particularly, the accurate detection of trace hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), which has drawn growing attention, has become a focal point. Herein, a molybdenum (Mo) doping strategy was presented to enhance the H₂S-sensitive properties of In₂O₃ nanomaterials to detect the presence of 1 ppm H₂S at comparatively lower temperatures. The Mo-doped In₂O₃ cubic nanoparticles (Mo-In₂O₃ CNPs) were synthesized through a hydrothermal route using In(OH) 3 as a precursor. When used as a sensitive material for the detection of H₂S, the Mo–In₂O₃ CNPs have shown some impressive improvements compared to pure In₂O₃ counterparts, including a reduction in working temperature (240 °C vs 300 °C), an increase in sensitivity (18.46 vs 11.34 for 20 ppm H₂S), a better selectivity (6.2 vs 2.84 times to ethanol), and a lower limit of detection (0.79 vs 0.47 ppm). Even to 1 ppm H₂S, the Mo-In₂O₃ sensor can give a response of 2.18, signifying its application feasibility in detecting trace amounts of H₂S. The multiple sensitization effects and their potential mechanism of Mo-In₂O₃ CNPs were discussed in detail.

Hierarchical porous MOF-199 with small crystal sizes was synthesized via PVP (Polyvinylpyrrolidone) regulation in an aqueous system, in which PVP acted as nucleating, coordination and template agent. The ambient desulfurization performance of the obtained MOF-199 regulated with different PVP amounts toward CH 3 SCH 3 and H 2 S and their structure-performance relationship were systematically studied. It is found that CH 3 SCH 3 was first chemisorbed on the surface of the adsorbent in a monolayer by weak coordination and then physisorbed in multilayers. This whole process was reversible and the structure of MOF kept stable. The hierarchical pores plus the small crystal size of MOF-199-P 1 , especially to the latter, endowed the uptake for CH 3 SCH 3 reaching 88.1 mg S/g, 42% higher than that of pristine MOF-199. However, the adsorption of H 2 S by MOF-199 is chemical and the collapse of the MOF structure was observed. The hierarchical porous structure helped H 2 S access as many active sites as possible before the blockage of pores caused by the structural damage. As a result, MOF-199-P 2 achieved the optimum breakthrough capacity of 74.3 mg S/g towards H 2 S, 34 % higher than the bare MOF-199. This study provides new strategies and insights for the adsorption process between sulfide and adsorbents in different reaction modes.

Elevated homocysteine (Hcy) is an independent risk factor for hypertension, and kidney is an important organ for Hcy metabolism and blood pressure regulation, and its damage is closely related to the process of hypertension. Recent evidence suggests that ferroptosis, an oxidative stress-related form of cell death, contributes significantly to hypertensive organ damage. However, whether Hcy aggravates renal injury in H-type hypertension by destroying renal hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) metabolism and driving ferroptosis is still lack of direct evidence. In this study, the H-type hypertensive rat model induced by high methionine diet combined with HK-2 cell model was studied. We observed a significant increase in blood pressure and plasma Hcy in the Hcy group, accompanied by renal dysfunction and renal tubular injury. Specifically, in the renal tissue of Hcy group rats, the levels of KIM-1, Fe 2+ and malondialdehyde (MDA) were increased, glutathione/glutathione disulfide (GSH/GSSG) ratio decreased, SLC7A11 expression was down-regulated, and GPX4 activity was inhibited. Concurrently, H 2 S levels and cystathionine-beta-synthase (CBS) activity were decreased. In vitro experiments using HK-2 cells confirmed that Hcy could down-regulate the expression of CBS, cystathionine-gamma-lyase (CSE), SLC7A11, GPX4 and GSH/GSSG ratio, and up-regulate MDA and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Treatment with H 2 S donor (NaHS) or ferroptosis inhibitors (Ferrostatin-1, Fer-1) could rescue these changes. Collectively, our results demonstrate that high Hcy promotes hypertension by suppressing endogenous H 2 S generation, downregulating the SLC7A11/GPX4 signaling axis, and inducing ferroptosis. These findings reveal a new mechanism by which Hcy aggravates hypertension by inhibiting H 2 S synthesis and inducing ferroptosis.

Hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) is a gas with dual roles in both environmental and biological systems. Although it is a natural atmospheric constituent and an enzymatically produced signaling molecule, elevated levels of H 2 S are associated with air pollution, cytotoxicity, and various diseases. Current methods for detecting H₂S are often limited by complex sample preparation, low sensitivity, and inadequate selectivity. To address these challenges, we report the development of a novel dual-channel and dual-responsive fluorescent probe HAR-H₂S , which enables rapid, sensitive, and selective detection of H₂S in both environmental and biological contexts. This probe employs coumarin and naphthalimide derivatives as fluorescent reporters and incorporates dual recognition sites for specific H₂S detection. Upon interaction with H₂S, the probe generates distinct blue and green fluorescent signals, facilitating bicolor imaging. The probe demonstrated excellent selectivity, low detection limits (26.4 nM and 35.1 nM), a relatively large spectral separation (126 nm) and rapid response times (within 3 min). HAR-H 2 S was successfully applied to quantify H 2 S in water samples (tap, river, and lake water) and to image H 2 S in various biological systems, including HeLa cells, HepG2 cells, zebrafish embryos, the ferroptosis model and mouse liver tissue sections. Our results highlight the potential of HAR-H 2 S as a versatile tool for H 2 S detection and imaging in both analytical and biological applications, thereby advancing the field of H 2 S research.

This study aims to investigate the molecular mechanisms by which 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) regulates hydrogen sulfide (H₂S)-producing enzymes, mediating the pathogenesis of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) during pregnancy, thereby offering novel molecular targets for early diagnosis and intervention of related disorders. By establishing a MAFLD pregnant mouse model, we comprehensively examined the regulatory effects of 4-HNE on placental function and its interaction with the H₂S system. We found that MAFLD pregnant mice exhibited significant glucose metabolic disorders, hepatic steatosis, and placental damage. Mechanistically, 4-HNE disrupts H₂S biosynthesis, thereby impairing its inhibitory effect on the inflammasome pathway while simultaneously activating inflammatory cascades. This synergistic action exacerbates placental pathological damage, manifesting as abnormal vascular function and impaired materno-fetal exchange. Notably, exogenous H₂S intervention partially reversed 4-HNE-induced toxicity, suggesting the therapeutic potential of targeting this pathway. These findings demonstrate the pivotal role of the “4-HNE–H₂S–NLRP3” regulatory axis in MAFLD-associated placental injury, providing novel mechanistic insights and potential therapeutic targets for pregnancy complications.

A bottom-gate-modulated carbon-based FET is developed for room-temperature H 2 S detection. • Complete recovery is achieved by purely electrical activation without external assistance. • The sensor shows favorable selectivity and stability for miniaturized, integrated sensing applications. Increasing attention has been paid to the detection of hazardous gases under room-temperature operating conditions. To address this, this work proposes a novel strategy based on a bottom-gate modulated carbon-based field-effect transistor (FET) for efficient room-temperature H₂S sensing. The FET-type gas sensor was constructed by integrating ZnWO₄/WO₃ composites with the carbon nanotube channel. It was found that applying a −1.5 V bottom-gate bias effectively modulates the surface electronic states of the sensing material, leading to significantly enhanced device performance: a response time of 28 s and a recovery time of 92 s toward 10 ppm H₂S at room temperature, enabling both rapid response and complete recovery. Furthermore, the sensor exhibits a favorable concentration-dependent response within 1–10 ppm, while maintaining high selectivity, consistent reproducibility, and durable long-term stability (maximum response fluctuation <7.1% over 15 days). The performance enhancement is primarily attributed to the gate-bias-facilitated regeneration of adsorbed oxygen species on the material surface. This work not only provides an innovative approach for room-temperature, low-power H₂S detection but also offers a new pathway toward the development of miniaturized and integratable gas sensors. All-solid-state sodium-ion batteries have the potential to improve safety and mitigate the cost bottlenecks of the current lithium-ion battery system if a high-performance electrolyte with cost advantages can be easily synthesized. In this study, a one-step dehydrogenation-assisted strategy to synthesize the novel thio-borohydride (Na-B-H-S) electrolyte is proposed, in which both raw material cost and preparation temperature are significantly reduced. By using sodium borohydride (NaBH 4 ) instead of B as a starting material, B atoms can be readily released from NaBH 4 with much less energy and thus became more available to generate thio-borohydride. The synthesized Na-B-H-S (NaBH 4 /Na-B-S) electrolyte exhibits excellent compatibility with current cathode materials, including FeF 3 (1.0–4.5 V), Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 (2.0–4.0 V), and S (1.2–2.8 V). This novel Na-B-H-S electrolyte will take a place in mainstream electrolytes because of its advantages in preparation, cost, and compatibility with various cathode materials.

Zinc indium sulfide (ZnIn 2 S 4 , ZIS), a visible-light-responsive photocatalyst, has garnered significant attention due to its facile synthesis, high stability, suitable band gap, and abundant active sites. This study innovatively constructed a CNT@Ag@ZIS tubular structure, introducing Ag mediators as electron donors at the CNT-ZIS interface. Results demonstrate that the Ag mediators establish clear interfacial contact with both hexagonal ZIS and CNT. Consequently, ZIS exhibits markedly enhanced photocurrent response and improved separation efficiency of photogenerated charge carriers. The catalyst achieved a remarkable hydrogen evolution rate of 18.44 mmol g −1 h −1 , representing an 8.7-fold enhancement over pristine ZIS. The study revealed that Ag, with its high Fermi level, facilitates interfacial electron transfer to ZIS. This induces a downshift of the p-band center (3p orbitals of S) in ZIS, simultaneously prolonging the H─S bond length and increasing the antibonding orbital occupation. This electron restructuring creates electron-rich S (2+δ)− active sites, substantially lowering the H 2 desorption energy barrier. Thus, the surface reaction kinetics of the sulfide are optimized through a regulation strategy targeting antibonding orbitals.

The supported metal catalysts on scaffolds usually reveal multiple active sites, resulting in the occurrence of side reaction and being detrimental to the achievement of highly consistent catalysis. Single atom catalysts (SACs), possessed with highly consistent single active sites, have great potentials for overcoming such issues. Herein, the authors used SACs to modulate kinetic process of gas sensitive reaction. The supported Pd SACs, established by a metal organic frameworks-templated approach, promoted greatly the detection capacity to hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) gas with a very high sensitivity and selectivity. Density functional theory calculations show that the supported Pd SACs not only increased the number of electrons transferring from H 2 S molecules to Pd SACs, but strengthened surface affinity to H 2 S. Moreover, the H S bonds of H 2 S molecules absorbed on Pd atomic sites are more likely to be dehydrogenated directly into sulfur species. Significantly, quasi in situ XPS analysis confirmed the presence of sulfur species during H 2 S detection process, which may be a major cause for such detection signal. Based on these results, a suitable sensing principle for H 2 S gas driven by Pd SACs was put forward. This work will enrich catalytic electronics in chemiresistive gas sensing.

The reduction of nitrobenzene (Ph-NO 2 ) to aniline (Ph-NH 2 ) utilizes H 2 S as a hydrogen donor. This approach alleviates environmental pollution while enabling resource utilization. However, it remains a challenge to develop sulfur-resistant catalysts. Herein, we fabricated a series of MoS 2 /ZrO 2 catalysts via crystalline phase modulation engineering for the reduction of Ph-NO 2 by H 2 S to Ph-NH 2 . Systematic experiments demonstrate that amorphous ZrO 2 has the highest concentration of oxygen vacancies (O v ), which exhibits the highest activity and stability. As a result, the MoS 2 /a-ZrO 2 achieves a Ph-NO 2 conversion of 92 % and a Ph-NH 2 selectivity of 85.7 % at 1.5 MPa and 90 °C, which is superior to MoS 2 /m-ZrO 2 , MoS 2 /t-ZrO 2 , MoS 2 and ZrO 2 . In situ FT-IR measurements combined with full two-dimensional time of flight chromatography suggest a double H-induced dissociation pathway for the reduction of Ph-NO 2 to Ph-NH 2 by H 2 S. This study offers a viable strategy for the valorization of H 2 S into valuable resources.
