Preparation of water-soluble flame retardant by cottonseed meal degradation for durable homologous flame retardant of cotton fiber
The concept of homologous flame retardant of cottonseed meal to cotton fiber is reported. According to the chemical bond characteristics of the amide bond, ester bond, and glycosidic bond in crude protein, crude fiber, and crude fat cottonseed meal, we developed a new system of H 2 O 2 -H 3 PO 4 degradation of dissolved cottonseed meal to prepare flame retardant. The study focuses on preparing water-soluble flame retardant (H 2 O 2 -H 3 PO 4 degradation Cottonseed meal, HPCm) by one-pot degradation of cottonseed meal and achieving durable flame retardancy for cotton fiber. The controllable degradation and dissolution conditions were optimized by orthogonal experiment, achieving a degradation rate of cottonseed meal that reached 88.4 %. The LOI of flame retardant cotton fiber after washing 50 LCS was still maintained at 36.2 %, and the damage length was 55 mm when the concentration of flame retardant HPCm was 60 g/L. The results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and cone calorimetry showed that HPCm exhibited a synergistic flame retardant mechanism dominated by condensed phase flame retardant and supplemented by gas phase flame retardant. This method successfully produced a durable flame retardant for cotton fiber.
