Here, micron-sized high-entropy alloy (HEA) electrocatalysts (FeCoNiMoCr, Cr-HEA; FeCoNiMoCu, Cu-HEA) with dual-phase heterostructures were fabricated by mechanical alloying and subsequently loaded onto nickel foam (NF) to form the working electrode, exhibiting excellent oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance. Specifically, the Cr-HEA/NF exhibits an overpotential of 271 mV at current density of 10 mA/cm 2 and a small Tafel slope of 69.1 mV/dec in 1 mol/L KOH solution, outperforming the performance of Cu-HEA/NF, commercial RuO 2 /NF and bare NF. HEA catalysts achieve outstanding long-term stability, as evidenced by chronopotentiometry (1 mol/L KOH for 48 h @10 mA/cm 2 and 6 mol/L KOH at 85 °C for 100 h @500 mA/cm 2 ) and chronoamperometry (1 mol/L KOH for 100 h @100 mA/cm 2 ). The impressive OER activity and stability of Cr-HEA can be attributed to the highly heterogeneous nested interfaces between amorphous and metastable nanocrystals, as well as the in-situ formation of multiphase structures. Notably, both density functional theory calculations and experimental results demonstrate that the synergistic interactions among the metal active sites in HEA collectively regulate the adsorption and desorption of oxygen-containing intermediates, thereby enhancing the OER catalytic activity. Specifically, the Cr-HEA presents a lower Gibbs free energy change during the transformation from O* to OOH*, resulting in a reduced overpotential.

A novel phosphorous-free terpolymer, used as a decalcifying agent for removing calcium from crude oil, was prepared through a free-radical polymerization reaction of acrylic acid (AA), allylpolyethoxy amino carboxylate (APEA), and 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) in water with ammonium persulfate as initiator. The structure of the synthesized AA–APEA–HEA terpolymer was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR). AA–APEA–HEA was used to remove calcium from Luning pipeline crude oil. The effects of several factors, such as molar ratio, dosage, and reaction temperature on calcium removal efficiencies from crude oil were evaluated. The results indicated that the removal of calcium from crude oil using AA–APEA–HEA was far more efficient than that using AA–APEA, PAA, HPMA, and PESA under the same conditions. The optimum conditions for calcium removal from crude oils were as follows: (a) molar ratio of AA–APEA–HEA, 2 : 1 : 0.5; (b) dosage of AA–APEA–HEA, 100 ppm; (c) reaction temperature, 100 °C. Under these conditions, the removal efficiency of calcium from Luning pipeline crude oils was approximately 98.63%. Furthermore, the proposed decalcification mechanism suggests surface complexation and chelation between the carboxylic (–COO−) and amino (–NH2) functional groups and Ca2+, with the polyethylene glycol segments increasing its solubility in water and the lipophilic ester groups increasing its affinity to oil.

Efficient solar photothermal conversion requires broadband light absorption and rapid nonradiative energy dissipation. Here, we report a microwave-assisted strategy to simultaneously deoxygenate graphene oxide, reconstruct defect states, and induce in situ formation of AlCoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy nanoparticles on reduced graphene oxide, forming strongly coupled HEA–rGO heterointerfaces. Time-resolved structural analysis identifies a narrow kinetic window of 15–20 s at 900 W, where oxygen removal, sp 2 -network restoration, HEA nucleation, and interfacial anchoring occur concurrently. Spectroscopic analyses show that microwave treatment reconstructs rather than simply removes defects, transforming oxygen-associated localized states into partially delocalized electronic states coupled with the π-conjugated carbon network and HEA–rGO interfaces. This electronic rearrangement lowers the apparent optical transition energy from 1.58 eV for pristine GO to 0.86–0.92 eV for the microwave-treated HEA–rGO samples while retaining substantial defect-related states. Consequently, the optimized HEA–rGO composite shows enhanced and flattened absorption across 300–800 nm, suppressed radiative recombination, faster heating rates, and higher steady-state temperatures under 1–3 sun irradiation. Machine-learning-assisted descriptor analysis and first-principles calculations further reveal coupled defect-tail-state regulation, interfacial charge redistribution, near-Fermi-level state enrichment, and d–p orbital coupling. This work establishes a processing–structure–electronic-state–performance relationship for microwave-engineered HEA–rGO photothermal composites.

High-entropy materials, with their multi-element synergistic effects, offer abundant active sites, holding great promise for designing efficient catalysts for sodium borohydride (NaBH 4 ) hydrolysis. Herein, we for the first time synthesize a metal-rich amorphous high-entropy compound Co 3 B‒HEA via a hydrothermal-chemical reduction method, constructing a novel “high-entropy matrix-boride” composite catalytic system. Experimental results demonstrate that Co 3 B‒HEA achieves a maximum hydrogen generation rate (HGR) of 8539.2 mL min −1 g cat −1 at 25 °C. Systematic characterizations reveal three key structural innovations: uniformly distributed multi-metallic active sites, a unique amorphous structure, and strong electronic interactions between Co 3 B and the HEA matrix. Kinetic studies demonstrate zero-order reaction behavior with respect to NaBH 4 concentration and a low activation energy (47.24 kJ mol −1 ), indicating enhanced reaction efficiency. Based on the Michaelis–Menten model, we propose a novel multi-element synergistic activation mechanism: Ru, Co, Fe, Ni, and Mo collectively activate B H 4 - and H 2 O molecules, fundamentally boosting the NaBH 4 hydrolysis rate. Moreover, hydrogen generated from NaBH 4 hydrolysis by the Co 3 B‒HEA catalyst was used directly to drive a custom H 2 -air fuel cell, successfully lighting up small light bulbs and demonstrating its potential for practical applications. This work offers a novel strategy for designing high-performance catalysts for hydrogen production and their practical energy utilization.

In tungsten heavy alloys, the substitution of conventional binders with novel high entropy alloys and the addition of rare metal borides have demonstrated considerable promise in enhancing comprehensive performance. In this study, 95W-5CoCrFeNiMn - x ZrB 2 ( x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) was synthesized by powder metallurgy method and characterized. The results show that: the spherical tungsten grains are distributed in binder network, and the added ZrB 2 reacts with oxygen to generate ZrO 2 and B 2 O 3 , which will affect the microstructure and properties of the alloys. An increase of ZrB₂ content results in a reduction in alloy density, accompanied by an enhancement in hardness; the changes in grain size , contiguity, and solid volume fraction present a trend of first falling and then rising, and the minimum value is obtained when the addition is 0.4 wt%. At this time, 95WHEAs-0.4 ZrB 2 presents the best comprehensive performance, exhibiting an average grain size of 16.80 μm, a relative density of 96.10 %, a hardness of 411.68 HV 1 , and a compressive strength of 2457.64 MPa. The primary fracture mode observed in the alloys is W-binder interfacial separation, with a minor occurrence of tungsten cleavage when the ZrB 2 addition is within an optimal range.

This article proposes a new process for fabricating a polymer microneedles (MNs) patch integrated with an LED light source (LED-HEMA/MN, LH-MN) using ultraviolet (UV) curing technology. Hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) is used as the base material, with a focus on studying the active integrated fabrication process of the MNs patch. The study also investigates the morphology, size, mechanical properties, ex vivo skin penetration performance, operating temperature, and performance optimization of the LH-MN. The experimental results show that the LH-MN fabricated using the optimal process has a good appearance, high molding rate, short production cycle, and excellent mechanical properties. It can effectively penetrate the skin without the risk of thermal injury. In addition, the MNs patch (LED-HEMA/HEA-MN, LHH-MN) prepared by optimizing and modifying with hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) possesses good flexibility and mechanical properties. It can adapt to different shapes and locations of the affected area, greatly enhancing the practicality of the MNs.

Developing high-activity electrocatalysts is crucial for the sustainable hydrogen production. This study presents a scalable strategy that combines arc-melted high-entropy alloy (HEA) synthesis with selective acid etching to create a superior catalyst for alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The designed Nb 30 Mo 25 V 20 Pt 15 Ir 10 HEA undergoes controlled etching, which selectively removes specific elements to construct a highly active surface with exposing and stabilizing Pt/Ir active sites. The optimized catalyst demonstrates exceptional performance, achieving an ultralow overpotential of 24 mV at 10 mA cm −2 , a Tafel slope of 35.6 mV dec −1 , and remarkable stability in 1.0 M KOH electrolyte. More importantly, it exhibits a superior precious metal mass activity of 0.081 A mg −1 Pt + Ir and a high turnover frequency of 1.14 s −1 at 100 mV, surpassing the commercial Pt/C. Experimental characterization and DFT calculations reveal a synergistic multisite mechanism where Pt sites facilitate optimal H∗ adsorption while Mo–Ir bridge sites modulate surface OH∗ interaction, collectively enhancing the reaction kinetics. This work provides new insights into designing high-performance, cost-effective electrocatalysts through rational HEA engineering and post-synthetic surface modification.

Hydrogels exhibiting lower or upper critical solution temperature (LCST/UCST) behavior undergo reversible phase transitions accompanied by volumetric shrinkage or optical switching, are widely used in smart windows, anti-counterfeiting, temperature-sensitive robots, and other fields. Nevertheless, their application is restricted by single-step thermal transitions inherent to isotropic polymer networks, which makes it impossible to accomplish several temperature transitions of hydrogels. Furthermore, compared to single-stimulus response, multiple responses present additional difficulties. To address these challenges, adjustable anisotropic Poly (hydroxypropyl acrylate-co-acryloyloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride)/Poly ( N -isopropyl acrylamide) (HD/NIPAM) hydrogels are prepared by limited domain swelling method. These hydrogels achieve tunable transition temperatures (−1.07°C–36.04°C) and broad transition windows (9.4°C–25.3°C) by modulating NIPAM concentration and limited thickness. Remarkably, 1 HD 20 /N 15 hydrogels exhibit exceptional time and cycle stability during their reversible transparency shift (97% to 1.8%). This performance enables applications in gradient-selective smart windows and soft thermal indicators with spatially resolved signaling. Furthermore, through the transition of matrix hydrogel (poly(hydroxypropyl acrylate-co-acryloyloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride) (HD) hydrogel to poly(hydroxypropyl acrylate-co-acryloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium dysprosium thiocyanate) (HDy) hydrogel), the transition from thermal single stimulus to thermal/light dual stimulus response was achieved due to the Dy element.

Mo- and Sn- coexsiting HEAs electrodeposited in a CE-based electrolyte. • Lattice distoration and superlattice transtion induced by P incorporation. • Phosphating enhances both structural stability and intrinsic activity. • The P-CoFeNiMoSn-1 couple requires 1.68 V to achieve 200 mA cm⁻² for industrial water splitting. Sn- and Mo-containing high-entropy alloys (HEAs) have recently emerged as promising hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalysts, with electrodeposition representing an attractive fabrication route. However, electrodeposited HEA coatings adhere to substrates primarily via mechanical interlocking, making them prone to delamination under vigorous bubble evolution during industrial water electrolysis. A synergistic strategy combining electrodeposition with phosphating was adopted to fabricate P-doped CoFeNiMoSn HEAs (P-CoFeNiMoSn), enhancing interfacial adhesion and intrinsic activity for industrial water electrolysis. Notably, P incorporation compensates for active site loss from heat-induced superlattice transition and defect annihilation via electronic structure optimization and lattice distortion, thereby achieving enhanced stability and activity. The P-CoFeNiMoSn-1 sample with the highest P solubility exhibits bifunctional HER/OER electrocatalytic activity and stability under industrially relevant water electrolysis conditions (6 M KOH, 80 °C). The symmetric electrolyze employing P-CoFeNiMoSn-1 as both cathode and anode requires only 1.68 V to achieve a current density of 200 mA cm⁻², with a negligible potential degradation after 100 h of continuous operation. This work not only expands the electrodeposition synthesis routes for Sn- and Mo-coexisting HEAs, but also provides new insights for the design of high-performance, long-lifetime electrodes for industrial water electrolysis. Deep eutectic ionic elastomers (DEIEs) as emerging iontronic conductors have shown great interest in flexible and wearable electronics. However, developing DEIEs with high strength and extreme stretchability remains challenging. In this paper, we report a facile strategy to prepare superior DEIEs by directly photopolymerizing HEA and ChCl . The synthetic elastomer exhibits high mechanical properties, with fracture strength of 0.804 MPa and fracture strain up to 1814%. Impressively, this elastomer can tolerate cutting and lift as high as 5 kg (7700 times its own weight) without failure. Moreover, the DEIEs also possess outstanding optical transparency (>90% in the visible range), desirable conductivity (2.47 × 10 −5 s cm −1 ), and excellent self-healing ability (electrical healing efficiency of 99.9% within 0.2 s). Using their strain-dependent iontronic resistance properties, versatile iontronic sensors for motion detection could be realized for human health care.

High entropy alloys (HEAs) exhibit distinctive core effects and excellent properties, presenting promising prospects for various applications, particularly as potential cermet adhesives. (Ti,W)C-HEA cermets were synthesized using vacuum sintering, employing mechanically alloyed CoCrFeNiTi HEA powder as a binder. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the produced cermets were systematically analyzed, with a particular focus on the effect of the HEA binder on the mechanical properties of the cermets. The findings indicated a decreasing trend in relative density, Rockwell hardness, and transverse rupture strength (TRS) of the cermets. Notably, the CM1 group ((Ti,W)C-30 wt% Co 20 Cr 20 Fe 20 Ni 35 Ti 5 ) demonstrated the most favorable overall properties, with values of 97.0 % for relative density, 83.2 HRA for Rockwell hardness, and 776.6 MPa for TRS. The phase transformation of HEAs at elevated temperatures was meticulously investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and heat treatment. Combined with X-ray diffraction (XRD), the phase transformation of Co 20 Cr 20 Fe 20 Ni 25 Ti 15 and Co 20 Cr 20 Fe 20 Ni 15 Ti 25 , heat treated at increasing temperatures, is as follows: FCC + BCC (milled) → FCC + σ (700°C–1100 °C) → FCC (bulk).

First, Layered double hydroxide (LDH) was modified by toluene diisocyanate (TDI), 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA), and LDH-TDI-HEA was prepared. Then LDH-TDI-HEA was modified by vinyl triethoxysilane (VTES), and LDH-TDI-HEA-VTES composites were obtained. Finally, acrylate was modified by LDH-TDI-HEA-VTES, and flame retarded LDH-TDI-HEA-VTES-Acrylate composites were successfully synthesized by in situ polymerization. The structures of LDH, LDH-TDI-HEA, LDH-TDI-HEA-VTES and LDH-TDI-HEA-VTES-Acrylate composites were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectra , X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Scanning electron microscopic. The effect of LDH-TDI-HEA-VTES content on the thermal stability, mechanical properties , adhesion properties and flame retardant properties of LDH-TDI-HEA-VTES-Acrylate composites was studied. At the same time, the thermal stability, mechanical properties, adhesion properties and flame retardant properties of LDH-Acrylate composites and LDH-TDI-HEA-VTES-Acrylate composites were also studied. The experimental results showed that with the increasing of LDH-TDI-HEA-VTES content, the thermal stability, mechanical properties, flame retardant properties, and shear resistance of LDH-TDI-HEA-VTES-Acrylate composites were improved, while the tack and 180° peel strength decreased. When the content of LDH-TDI-HEA-VTES was 7 wt%, the LOI, after-flame time and the UL 94 grade of LDH-TDI-HEA-VTES-Acrylate composites were 27%, 0 s, and V-0, respectively. LDH-TDI-HEA-VTES-Acrylate Composites have good flame retardant properties. At the same time, the flame retardant mechanism of LDH-TDI-HEA-VTES composites was also analyzed.
