A major challenge in utilizing metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) for volatile organic compound (VOC) capture was their inclination for strong adsorption, which consequently impeded desorption and elevated energy demand. To overcome this challenge, the construction of HKUST-1@Cu nanofibers (HK@Cu-NF) with thermal conductive adsorption sites was proposed to synchronous enhance toluene adsorption and desorption efficiency for VOCs capture. In this work, Cu-based HKUST-1 was designed to grow on Cu nanofibers, and formed uniform coverage MOF layer with tight connection via homologous Cu self-transformation growth strategy. The synthesized composite was proved to maintain high surface area (1473 m 2 /g) and generate abundant unsaturated Cu sites on its nanointerface based from the thermally conductive Cu nanofibers. This unique connection structure endowed these adsorption sites with high affinity towards toluene and high thermal conductivity as well, and finally formed thermal conductive adsorption sites. As a result, HK@Cu-NF composite (80 % loading of HKUST-1) exhibited 1.9 times higher of toluene adsorption capacity at P / P 0 = 0.002 and >3 times higher of thermal diffusivity than pure HKUST-1. Furthermore, it achieved enhancement in both adsorption and desorption efficiency for toluene, which reached 4.8 and 6.9 times of pure HKUST-1. Therefore, construction of thermal conductive adsorption sites successfully improved the adsorption efficiency and regeneration efficiency for VOCs capture, and realized the low energy VOCs desorption process.

Background Enantiomers may have differences in biological effects, pharmacological activity, and toxicity. Currently, global regulatory authorities are imposing increasingly stringent approval requirements for single-enantiomer drugs. Coupled with the continued growth of the chiral pharmaceutical market, this makes the development of chiral separation technology an urgent scientific task. Therefore, the separation and analysis of chiral drug enantiomers are directly related to human health. Enzyme-based chiral stationary phase (CSP) is a promising platform. Unfortunately, the fragility of natural enzymes, as well as the complexity and low efficiency of the preparation process, hinder their practical application in chiral separation. Results Metal organic frameworks (MOFs), which have enormous potential in the fields of enzyme immobilization and capillary electrochromatography (CEC) separation, were explored as support materials with good enzyme immobilization performance and CSP with separation abilities. Lipase (from porcine pancreatic) was encapsulated into a metal organic framework (MOF) under the concept of "in situ". Effective enzyme loading capacity enables composite materials (Lipase@HKUST-1) to inherit lipase's natural chiral recognition ability. On this basis, inspired by the same concept, Lipase@HKUST-1 was directly grown in the open column for capillary electrochromatography (CEC). By optimizing the interface combination method and simplifying the column preparation steps, the efficiency and performance of capillary column preparation have been effectively improved. Enantiomer separation of multi-chiral drugs such as naproxen and chlorpheniramine has been achieved. Theoretical calculations further explore potential chiral recognition mechanisms. Significance The effective combination of cost-effective lipase (from porcine pancreatic) and MOF materials enriches the library of chiral materials for enantioseparation. The understanding of the chiral recognition mechanism inspires the design of ideal performance materials. The highly stable MOF separation platform for biological functions has introduced a pioneering research paradigm for the CSP development of OT-CEC.

Perfluoroisobutyronitrile (C 4 F 7 N) mixed with CO 2 has emerged as a promising eco-friendly alternative to sulfur hexafluoride (SF 6 ) in gas-insulated equipment (GIE). However, thermal or discharge faults in GIE inevitably lead to the generation of harmful decomposition by-products, necessitating their prompt removal to safeguard equipment operation and personnel safety. In this study, we propose a nanofiber composite material comprising polyacrylonitrile (PAN) as the base and multi-metal organic frameworks (MOFs) as the primary adsorbent material for removing typical decomposition components of C 4 F 7 N/CO 2 gas mixture. Utilizing grand canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, we elucidate the selective adsorption mechanisms. Experimental results show that PAN@HKUST-1(Cu) exhibits superior adsorption efficiency for fluorocarbon gases compared to PAN@MIL-101(Cr), while the latter demonstrates better performance for nitrile gases. The PAN@HKUST-1(Cu)/MIL-101(Cr) composite adsorbent effectively removes eight typical harmful decomposition products while minimally affecting C 4 F 7 N. Our findings suggest that PAN@HKUST-1(Cu)/MIL-101(Cr) nanofiber film holds promise as an adsorbent for C 4 F 7 N/CO 2 based GIE.

The construction of heterojunctions has been used to optimize photocatalyst fuel denitrification. In this work, HKUST-1(Cu) was used as a sacrificial template to synthesize a composite material CuxO (CuO/Cu2O) that retains the original MOF framework for photocatalytic fuel denitrification by calcination at different temperatures. By adjusting the temperature, the content of CuO/Cu2O can be changed to control the performance and structure of CuxO-T effectively. The results show that CuxO-300 has the best photocatalytic performance, and its denitrification rate reaches 81% after 4 hours of visible light (≥420 nm) irradiation. Through the experimental analysis of pyridine's infrared and XPS spectra, we found that calcination produces CuxO-T mixed-valence metal oxide, which can create more exposed Lewis acid sites in the HKUST-1(Cu) framework. This leads to improved pyridine adsorption capabilities. The mixed-valence metal oxide forms a type II semiconductor heterojunction, which accelerates carrier separation and promotes photocatalytic activity for pyridine denitrification.

Novel Fenton-like catalyst HKUST-1(Cu)/MoS2-3-C with a non-equilibrium-state surface was constructed for selective degradation of phenolic contaminants. Electron-polarized distribution facilitated the formation of σ-Cu-ligand between electron-poor Cu centre and phenolic compounds, which not only enhanced radicals generation but also accelerated the Cu(I)/Cu(II) redox. Meanwhile, ≡Mo–OOSO3−complexes formed by the electron-rich Mo centre and peroxymonosulfate (PMS), could directly oxidize phenolic contaminants with the generation of SO4•−. The radical quenching experiments and EPR tests indicated that both SO4•−and•OH played a dominant role in the reaction. Additionally, O2could be reduced to O2•−by OVs and subsequently converted into1O2over the Mo centre. DFT calculation, FT-IR, and in situ Raman spectra analysis results demonstrated that phenolic compounds and PMS were respectively adsorbed by electron-poor Cu centre and electron-rich Mo centre, favouring the electrons transfer from phenolic contaminants to Mo centre for PMS activation. With synergistic effects of σ-Cu-ligand and ≡Mo–OOSO3−complexes, HKUST-1(Cu)/MoS2-3-C achieved a high degradation rate of phenolic contaminants and utilization efficiency of PMS.Keywords:fenton-like catalyst;non-equilibrium-state surface;σ-Cu-ligand;≡Mo–OOSO3−complex;phenolic contaminants degradation
