The CoMnS-PDA (polydopamine) composite electrodes with high optical transparency and flexibility were fabricated on ITO/PET substrates via an electrochemical deposition method. The unique structural attributes, tunable electronic properties, and rich redox states inherent to bimetallic sulfides, combined with the catechol and nitrogen functional groups present in PDA, collectively enhance the surface modification effectiveness and pseudocapacitive performance of the electrodes. The CoMnS-PDA electrodes exhibit excellent pseudocapacitive performance, with a maximum areal capacitance of 189.3 mF cm−2 at a current density of 0.4 mA cm−2, while maintaining optical transmittance of around 80%. The assembled symmetric device exhibits 50% transparency and delivers an area capacitance of 28.7 mF cm−2 at a current density of 0.2 mA cm−2. Moreover, the device demonstrates outstanding flexibility, with negligible electrochemical performance degradation even under nearly 180° bending. When three devices are connected in series, they successfully light up a red LED, indicating the promising potential of these materials for flexible and transparent energy storage applications.

Electrochromic smart devices with tunable optical properties are on the verge of replacing the conventional windows and curtains. The preparation and commercialization of electrochromic materials are majorly based on vapor phase deposition which is limited by high price and difficult production processes. Here, atomizing spray deposition process is developed for the production of large area, low-cost electrochromic film. W 18 O 49 , a promising inorganic EC material, was used to prepare EC film on indium tin oxide-polyethylene terephthalate (ITO-PET) flexible substrate. Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) was also printed on ITO-PET substrate to improve the conductivity of substrate and the adhesion between W 18 O 49 and substrate. The experimental results showed that the transmittance modulation ( Δ T) of W 18 O 49 /PEDOT:PSS/ITO-PET flexible EC film was 63.34% corresponding to a wavelength of 633 nm. The coloring and bleaching response times of W 18 O 49 /PEDOT:PSS/ITO-PET EC film were 18.7 s and 23.2 s, respectively. Furthermore, the as-prepared flexible EC film by atomizing spray deposition method had excellent cyclic stability, and the optical transmittance of the film still retains a high value (70%) after continuous coloring and bleaching for 6000 s.
