Herein, noble-metal-free In 2 S 3 -WC and In 2 S 3 -based photocatalysts with dual cocatalysts of flower-like MoS 2 and bulk WC were synthesized through a facile solvothermal reaction. Electrochemical results indicated WC increased the interface conductance of photocatalyst and boosted the transference of photogenerated carriers. The optimal In 2 S 3 -WC show a hydrogen production rate of 128.11 μmol·h −1 ·g −1 , which is around 6 times higher than In 2 S 3 -1%Pt (20.73 μmol·h −1 ·g −1 ). The above results demonstrate commercial WC has a crucial impact of replacing precious metal and separating carriers. Morphology characterization exhibited hydrangea In 2 S 3 and flower-like MoS 2 were attached to bulk WC. Gratifyingly, photocurrent, impedance and photoluminescence results demonstrated MoS 2 further effectively separated the photogenerated carriers. Remarkably, the higher hydrogen generation rate of 390.52 μmol·h −1 ·g −1 obtained by the optimal ternary In 2 S 3 -WC-MoS 2 composite was around 3 and 18 times higher than the optimal In 2 S 3 -WC and In 2 S 3 -1% Pt. The photocatalytic results demonstrated that "W-Mo auxiliary pairs" was a great efficient synergistic cocatalyst for In 2 S 3 to increase active sites and improve e - -h + pairs separation for H 2 generation. Furthermore, a probable reaction mechanism of the enhanced photocatalytic H 2 generation was also proposed. This presented research provides an effective concept to design novel and efficient noble-metal-free photocatalyst with "W-Mo auxiliary pairs" for prominent H 2 generation activity.
Efficient utilization of full solar light especially near-infrared light (NIR) is still a great challenge. Herein three In 2 S 3 nanomaterials with cubic phase and different morphologies were synthesized via hydrothermal methods by using sodium sulfide (Na 2 S), thiosemicarbazide (TSC) and thioacetamide (TAA) as sulfur sources, respectively. All the as-synthesized In 2 S 3 samples were found to be photo-active under either UV, visible or NIR light irradiation although they possess very different morphologies. The In 2 S 3 sample with irregular and plate-like nanoparticles synthesized by using Na 2 S as sulfur source shows the highest activity on photodegradation of methyl orange due to its exposure of more photoactive (311) plane than the other two In 2 S 3 samples and the occurrence of lattice oxygen. The samples that synthesized by using TSC and TAA as sulfur sources possess the morphology of hollow microspheres, which are hierarchically constructed by thinner nanosheets and cumulated by thicker platelets, respectively. The microsphere sample constructed by thinner nanosheets shows even lower photocatalytic activity than that accumulated by thicker platelets under all the tested light regions especially under longer irradiation time because of its less exposed (311) plane and lower sulfur vacancies although it possesses a far larger specific surface area than the latter. These results suggest that the exposure of more photoactive (311) plane and occurrence of lattice oxygen deserve more attention to improve the photocatalytic activity of In 2 S 3 .

Efficient interfacial charge transfer and robust interface interactions are crucial to achieve superior spatial separation of carriers and develop advanced heterogeneous photocatalysts . This study describes the synthesis of a novel S-scheme heterojunction of ZnO/In 2 S 3 , with S−O covalent bonds , achieved through a hydrothermal method . The optimized heterojunction shows exceptional photocatalytic activity , achieving a H 2 generation rate of 2488 μmol g −1 h −1 and a degradation efficiency of 86 % for tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) within 2 h. These values surpass those of In 2 S 3 alone by 35 and 1.4 times, respectively. Various techniques, including electron spin resonance, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Kelvin probe force microscopy and density functional theory calculations confirm the S-scheme heterojunction. The establishment of a chemical S−O bond between In 2 S 3 and ZnO facilitates an atomic level interfacial pathway, enabling efficient transportation of interfacial electrons.
