Utilization of fly ash (FA) wastes as the carriers of catalysts for the environmental application is an economic and practical strategy for their low cost, easy accessibility and thermal stability. However, most catalysts immobilized on fly ash were metal or metal oxides, some potential catalysts such as metal phthalocyanine complexes have not been reported upon their heterogeneous catalysis with FA as the carriers. In this paper, highly active iron octacarboxyphthalocyanine were immobilized onto the bird nest-like surfaces of fly ash microspheres after NaOH activation. It is noted that the FeOCPc@FA composites with only 2 wt.% exhibited the high catalytic efficiency in the organic dye degradation. The high concentration of 30 mg/L rhodamine B and methylene blue could be fast decolorized in the presence of FeOCPc@FA–2 % and KHSO 5 . Moreover, the ultrafast decolorization of these dyes could be observed in the catalytic system composed of FeOCPc@FA–2 %, KHSO 5 and BuOOH ( tert -butyl hydroperoxide). Simultaneous activation of KHSO 5 and BuOOH could be realized in our designed catalytic system. Based on the structural characterizations of composites and active species generated during the catalytic processes, the probable generation pathway of metal–oxygen active species and various radicals were analyzed to explicate the catalytic mechanism. Our investigation provides a high efficiency, low cost and environmentally friendly strategy for advanced oxidation treatment of organic pollutants .

Soil pollution caused by complex organochloride mixtures has been increasing in many parts of the world in recent years; as a result, countless numbers of people are exposed to dangerous pollutions; hence, the treatment of organochlorides-polluted soils is gaining considerable attention. In this study, the potential of unactivated peroxymonosulfate (KHSO 5 ) in remediating soil co-contaminated with trichlorophenol, para-dichlorobenzene, and para-chloro-meta-cresol was investigated. In addition, the treatment's collateral effect on critical soil properties was explored. The result revealed that treating 10 g of soil with 20 mL of 5 mM KHSO 5 for 60 min could oxidize 70.49% of the total pollutants. The pH of the soil was decreased following the treatment. The significant decrease, ( p < 0.05), in the soil organic matter following the remediation has affected cation exchange capacity, and available nitrogen. It was also observed that the treatment reduced the β-glucosidase, urease, invertase, and cellulase activities significantly, ( p < 0.05). The treatment, on the other hand, brought negligible effects on available phosphorus, available potassium, and particle size distribution . The phytotoxicity tests, which included seed germination and root elongation and soil respiration tests revealed that the treatment did not leach toxins into the treated soil. The treatment method was found to be relatively ecofriendly and cost effective.

9-Mesityl-10-methylacridinium ion (Acr+-Mes) is a donor–acceptor molecule with a much longer lifetime and a higher energy electron transfer excited state than natural photosynthetic reaction centers. Unlike lucigenin with a coplanar geometry, Acr+-Mes has an orthogonal geometry. There is no π conjugation between Acr+ and Mes. Due to its special electron donor–acceptor structure, it does not rely on strong alkalinity to generate an electron transfer state like lucigenin, which makes it possible to achieve chemiluminescence (CL) under weakly alkaline or neutral conditions. In this study, we report Acr+-Mes CL for the first time. Acr+-Mes generates about 400 times stronger CL intensity than lucigenin under neutral conditions (pH = 7) using KHSO5 as the coreactant. Moreover, Co2+ can enhance Acr+-Mes/KHSO5 CL remarkably. Acr+-Mes/KHSO5 CL enables Co2+ detection with a linear range of 0.5–500 nM and a limit of detection of 28 pM (S/N = 3). This method was tested for the detection of Co2+ in lake water, and the standard recovery rate of 96.8–107% was achieved. This study provides a new way to develop efficient CL systems in neutral solutions.

A novel coupled system using Co–TiO 2 was successfully designed which combined two different heterogeneous advanced oxidation processes, sulfate radical based Fenton-like reaction (SR-Fenton) and visible light photocatalysis (Vis-Photo), for degradation of organic contaminants. The synergistic effect of SR-Fenton and Vis-Photo was observed through comparative tests of 50 mg/L Rhodamine B (RhB) degradation and TOC removal. The Rhodamine B degradation rate and TOC removal were 100% and 68.1% using the SR-Fenton/Vis-Photo combined process under ambient conditions, respectively. Moreover, based on XRD, XPS and UV-DRS characterization, it can be deduced that tricobalt tetroxide located on the surface of the catalyst is the SR-Fenton active site, and cobalt ion implanted in the TiO 2 lattice is the reason for the visible light photocatalytic activity of Co–TiO 2 . Finally, the effects of the calcination temperature and cobalt concentration on the synergistic performance were also investigated and a possible mechanism for the synergistic system was proposed. This coupled system exhibited excellent catalytic stability and reusability, and almost no dissolution of Co 2 + was found.
