As a carrier of ion conduction function, electrolyte is an indispensable part of any electrochemical energy storage system. A salt can only become an ion conductor electrolyte when dissolved in a solvent or at a state in a molten/quasi-molten situation, that is, a traditional electrolyte solution or fast ion conductor. Here, we reported an alternative quasi-dissociated state of a salt at room temperature. A LiPF6 can be dissociated to a certain extent by ZIF-8 and EC; thus a solid quasi-dissociated salt, a “puffed” like LiPF6 with longer bond length and more disordered atomic arrangements, has been achieved with an intrinsic ionic conductivity of 7.20 × 10–6 S cm–1 at 25 °C. Then, PEO was employed as the base material for casting, and by further dissociating the solid quasi-dissociated LiPF6 (SQDL), a free-standing ion-conductive membrane (ICM) has been obtained with good flexibility and excellent interfacial compatibility. The ICM possesses a high ionic conductivity of 1.07 × 10–3 S cm–1 and exhibits excellent battery performance in a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) solid battery with a discharge specific capacity of 139.9 mAh g–1 at 0.5 C.

In this study, graphene oxide (GO) nanoflakes and lithium salt (LiPF6) were utilized as lubrication additives in ether bond−containing dihydric alcohol aqueous solutions (DA(aq)) to improve lubrication performances. The apparent friction reduction and superlubricity were realized at the Si3N4/sapphire interface. The conditions and laws for superlubricity realization have been concluded. The underlying mechanism was the synergy effect of GO and LiPF6. It was proven that a GO adsorption layer was formed at the interface, which caused the shearing interface to transfer from solid asperities to GO interlayers (weak interlayer interactions), resulting in friction reduction and superlubricity realization. In addition to the GO adsorption layer, a boundary layer containing phosphates and fluorides was formed by tribochemical reactions of LiPF6and was conducive to low friction. Additionally, a fluid layer contributed to friction reduction as well. This work proved that GO−family materials are promising for friction reduction, and provided new insights into realizing liquid superlubricity at macroscale by combining GO with other materials. Keywords:superlubricity;graphene oxide;LiPF6;friction reduction

Eco-friendly indium phosphide (InP) quantum dots (QDs) with excellent optical properties are highly demanded for advanced display and lighting technologies. This work demonstrated a mild postsynthetic treatment method to enhance the optical properties of InP cores by utilizing lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6) to remove POx– species from the core surfaces at nucleation temperature. This method avoided the use of toxic and corrosive hydrofluoric acid. The effects of LiPF6 dosage and treatment duration on the optical properties of InP cores were systematically investigated. After LiPF6 treatment, the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of the InP cores increased dramatically from <1 to 21%, with the removal of POx– species confirmed by XPS and FTIR analyses. Furthermore, the impact of LiPF6 introduction prior to shell coating on the properties of core–shell QDs with ZnSeS/ZnS shells was investigated. The introduction of LiPF6 induced a controlled emission red shift (from 614 to 620 nm) while dramatically boosting the PLQY from 62 to 90%. The fabricated light-emitting diode (LED), employing InP(F)/ZnSeS/ZnS QDs as color converters, achieved a maximum power efficiency of 1.11 lm W–1 with CIE coordinates of (0.702, 0.293). This work provides an efficient approach to optimize InP-based QDs for high-performance optoelectronic applications.

In dual–ion batteries (DIBs), it is a key issue to search for electrolyte solutions compatible with graphite positive electrode. The solutions of LiPF6 dissolved in short chain esters like ethyl methyl carbonate or methyl propionate have emerged as suitable choices, in which graphite positive electrode can deliver a PF6– storage capacity about 100 mA h g–1. However, in a much shorter chain ester, methyl acetate (MA), the PF6– storage capacity delivered by graphite electrode is limited to 60 mA h g–1. In this paper, the flame–retardant solvent of trimethyl phosphate (TMP) is introduced into LiPF6–MA solutions to improve the electrochemical performance of graphite electrode. The reversible capacity can be enhanced to near 90 mA h g–1 in 3 M LiPF6–MA/TMP (6:4 by vol.). Traditional electrochemical tests in combination with ex situ/in situ X–ray diffraction (XRD) characterizations have been applied to probe the charge storage mechanism across the interfaces between graphite electrode and electrolyte solutions. Raman/fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra have been carried out to explore the solvation states of ions in the solutions.

Sodium-ion batteries have emerged as a promising alternative to lithium-ion batteries, offering distinct advantages that have garnered a significant amount of attention. However, challenges such as slow ion migration and unstable interfaces, stemming from the larger size and mass of sodium ions, severely impact the battery cycle life and fast-charging capabilities. To address these challenges, an effective solvation regulation strategy utilizing a trace amount of LiPF6 additive is developed. The targeted introduction of LiPF6 into the baseline NaPF6 electrolyte induces the formation of unique Li+-Na+ composite solvation structures, including “dual-anion” centered on Li+ and ″Li+-Na+ dual-cation″ with anions acting as bridges. This strategy not only enhances ionic conductivity and interfacial stability but also optimizes the structure of the Na3Fe2(PO4)P2O7 (NFPP) electrode materials. Consequently, the capacity retention rate of NFPP∥Na batteries using this electrolyte surpassed 98% after 3000 cycles at 10 C, and the capacity retention rate of hard carbon (HC)∥Na batteries achieved 86.83% after 400 cycles at a current density of 1.0 A/g. Furthermore, when implemented in NFPP||HC pouch cells, the electrolyte maintained exceptional electrochemical performance even under charge and discharge cycles at a current density of 3 C. More importantly, this study extensively investigated the correlation between the constructed composite solvation structure and the electrochemical performance of the battery, providing a promising design approach for enhancing the performance of sodium-ion battery electrolytes in terms of both high-rate capability and extended cycle life.

The electrolyte plays a pivotal role in determining the performance of graphite cathodes in dual-ion batteries (DIBs). Although LiPF6-methyl acetate (MA)-based electrolytes have shown potential in DIBs, the discharge capacity of the cells is unsatisfied using a conventional electrolyte concentration. Herein, we demonstrate that concentrated LiPF6-MA electrolytes effectively enhance the performance of lithium/graphite DIBs. As the electrolyte concentration increases from 1 to 6 mol kg–1, the discharge capacity of the cell increases from 79 to 121 mAh g–1. In situ X-ray diffraction (XRD) combined with electrochemical dilatometry (ECD) reveals the anion storage behavior of PF6– in graphite cathodes, exhibiting superior reversibility at higher concentrations. Moreover, the concentrated LiPF6-MA electrolytes effectively suppress lithium dendrite growth, improving the safety and stability of the cells. This study highlights the critical role of electrolyte concentration in optimizing DIB performance, providing a feasible strategy for developing high-capacity and stable DIB systems.

This work studied the influence of the voltage parameters on the friction and superlubricity performances of LiPF6-based ionic liquids (ILs). The results show that the voltage direction and magnitude greatly affected the friction performances of ILs and that macroscale superlubricity can be achieved with a stimulation of −0.1 V. The surface analysis and experiment results indicate that the voltage magnitude influences the coefficient of friction (COF) by determining the types of substances in the tribochemical film formed on the ball, while the voltage direction influences the COF by affecting the adsorption behavior of Li(PEG)+ions on the ball. At −0.1 V, the cation group Li(PEG)+adsorption film and FeOOH-containing tribochemical film contribute to friction reduction. The formation of FexOywithin the tribochemical film results in an increase in friction at −0.8 V. The limited adsorption of Li(PEG)+ions and the formation of FexOycontribute to the elevated COF at +0.1 V. This work proves that the friction performances of LiPF6-based ILs could be affected by voltage parameters. A lubrication model was proposed hoping to provide a basic understanding of the lubrication mechanisms of ILs in the electric environment.

The promoting effect of hydroxyls on a silicon surface on the decomposition of an electrolyte is studied by comparing the performance of silicon–hydroxyl (Si–OH) and silicon–alkyl (Si–C3H7) electrodes. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) characterization of solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layers on both electrodes demonstrates the influencing mechanism that hydroxyls can react with LiPF6 to form POF3, which further induces the decomposition of the electrolyte solution. This study provides a new consideration that limiting the amount of hydroxyls on the silicon surface in an appropriate range is significant to the electrochemical performance of silicon-based anode materials.

1,3-dioxolane (DOL) shows low interfacial impedance and high Coulombic efficiency, thus its polymer electrolytes have attracted extensive attention. In order to initiate DOL polymerization, catalyst amount of LiPF 6 is usually used rather than as the main lithium salt . Totally replacement of LiTFSI with low cost of LiPF 6 could bring the heat explosion and high viscosity when mixing DOL with 0.9 M LiPF 6 electrolyte (carbonate ester solvent). Here, based on the Lewis acid-base interaction, a new type of Lewis base, pyridine, is added to control the explosive polymerization of 1,3-dioxolane in LiPF 6 electrolyte. Through tuning the pyridine content, the gelling process and electrochemical properties could be controlled. It is demonstrated that the optimized monomer conversion and electrochemical window are up to 85.2 % and 4.6 V; meanwhile, the optimized conductivity and transfer number are 0.99 × 10 −3 S/cm (25 °C) and 0.68, respectively. The stable interface between PDOL and lithium metal anode could be proved by the stable over-potential (50mv, 700 h) at current density of 0.5 mA cm −2 . After 500 cycles at 2C, the assembled Li/PDOL@py 0.125 /LiFePO 4 battery delivers 115 mAh/g and 90 % capacity retention, with high average Coulombic efficiency of 99.83 %. The present results demonstrate the heat suppression role of pyridine toward mixing DOL with 0.9 M LiPF 6 electrolyte, which solves the heat and viscosity problems for PDOL based gelling polymer electrolytes .

The effectiveness of multicomponent functional additives on the performances of lithium ion batteries has received increasing attention. Tris(2 H -hexafluoroisopropyl) borate (THFPB) additive can totally suppress the appearance of a crystallized complex between LiPF 6 and adiponitrile (ADN). Herein, ADN, THFPB, and cyclohexylbenzene are demonstrated to be an effective three-component functional additive in LiPF 6 -based carbonate electrolyte that improves the cyclability and rate capabilities of LiCoO 2 /graphite full cells charged to 4.4, 4.45, and 4.5 V, respectively. By systematic characterization, it is demonstrated rationally that, with the help of the three-component functional additive, the electrolyte is stabilized and new types of less resistant, thinner, more protective solid–electrolyte interfaces are constructed simultaneously on the surfaces of both electrodes.

Anode-free lithium-metal batteries (AFBs) offer an attractive pathway to achieve cell-level energy densities >500 Wh kg −1 but suffer from rapid degradation driven by parasitic electrolyte decomposition, gas evolution, and unstable interphases. Here, we report a solvation-structure engineering strategy using trace LiPF 6 additive in localized high-concentration electrolytes (LHCEs) to regulate homogeneous Li deposition and stabilize electrode-electrolyte interfacial chemistry. Molecular dynamics simulations and spectroscopic analyses reveal a synergistic PF 6 − –FSI − coordination that dramatically enriches aggregate (AGG) species in the Li + solvation sheath, increasing AGG populations from 17% to 93% with only 1 wt.% LiPF 6 . Owing to its persistent stability, this LiPF 6 -derived AGG-dominated solvation suppresses ether-solvent reduction and CH 4 generation, forming an inorganic-rich solid–electrolyte interphase/cathode-electrolyte interphase. AFBs with optimized electrolyte achieve substantially improved performance, including a significant reduction in high-temperature gas evolution alongside increases in cycle life of 64% at 45°C and 28% at 25°C. When scaled to 240 Ah blade cells, this optimized electrolyte delivers stable cycling for nearly 100 cycles at 80% DOD and 45°C with negligible swelling and >1260 Wh L −1 volumetric energy density. This study demonstrates a practical and scalable electrolyte design principle that overcomes the key barriers to commercial deployment of large-format AFBs.

The common LiPF6 electrolyte in lithium batteries often contains trace water (∼10 ppm) and hydrofluoric acid (∼20 ppm). But the possible influence of this trace HF on the performance of Li–organic batteries with organic cathode materials is still not clear. In this paper, a novel N-heterocycle based conjugated microporous polymer PTPADTz based on the triphenylamine–bitriazine group was prepared. The polymer PTPADTz was found to possess a high surface area (∼657 m2 g−1) and an abundant microporous structure. Using PTPADTz as the cathode material in lithium batteries with the LiPF6 electrolyte, apart from the voltage platform of triphenylamine around 3.75 V, a new and unstable low voltage platform at ∼2 V was also observed, which did not correspond to the n-doping process of bitriazine groups according to electrochemistry results. Furthermore, it faded rapidly and disappeared in 20 cycles with an irreversible capacity loss. Such an uncommon phenomenon was not observed in the same lithium batteries with the LiClO4 electrolyte. UV-vis spectra and electrochemistry results showed that the PTPADTz film exhibited an obvious red-shift in the LiPF6 electrolyte similar to that in HCl solution and the HF/LiClO4 electrolyte, with the film color in both changing from yellow to a shade of red, which were not observed in the LiClO4 electrolyte. Thus the uncommon low voltage platform at ∼2 V in the LiPF6 electrolyte might be ascribed to the acid-doping effect of the trace HF in the electrolyte, which bonded with the electron pairs of nitrogen in triazine to increase its electron affinity and produce another new n-doping behavior. The open lithium battery experiments clearly demonstrated the in situ color change related to the doping and dedoping behavior during the whole charge/discharge process, further confirming that the acid-doping of the trace HF into the triazine group was the origin of the observed low voltage platform. Hence, this study may provide new insight into the influence of trace H+ in the electrolyte on the performance of Li–organic batteries.
