Background Infections caused by foodborne pathogens pose a major threat to human health. Traditional bacterial detection methods, such as plate culture and polymerase chain reaction, cannot meet the growing demand for fast and accurate detection. In contrast, colorimetric sensors have the characteristics of convenience, speed, and visualization, but their specific sensitivity is relatively poor. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a biosensor with selective identification of foodborne pathogens, high sensitivity, and early detection of foodborne pathogen contamination in food. Results We have developed a broad-spectrum microbial detection biosensor platform MDC@N-MMCNs that combines antimicrobial peptides as identifying ingredients with mesoporous carbon with peroxidase-like activity to detect and eliminate foodborne pathogens rapidly. In this study, nitrogen-doped magnetic mesoporous carbon nanospheres (N-MMCNs) were prepared using ferric nitrate as the magnetic source. Musca domestica cecropin (MDC) has abundant recognition sites on the surface of bacteria, which helps to recognize and amplify the signal, and combines with N-MMCNs to form MDC@N-MMCNs. MDC@N-MMCNs have high stability, specificity, and sensitivity, with a visual detection limit as low as 10 2 CFU/mL. The MDC@N-MMCNs paper-based sensor enables selective and rapid detection of four foodborne pathogens via a smartphone application. Significance Based on these findings, we believe that MDC@N-MMCNs hold great potential for on-site bacterial infection diagnosis in resource-limited environments or point-of-care (POCT) settings, offering a simple, cost-effective solution for food safety and public health.

Methyl diphenylmethane dicarbamate (MDC) is a key intermediate in the non-phosgene synthesis of diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI), which serves as an essential raw material for polyurethane production. In this work, six triethylamine-based sulfonic acid-functionalized ionic liquids (TEA-SAILs) were synthesized and employed as catalysts for the condensation reaction of methyl phenyl carbamate (MPC) to MDC under solvent-free conditions. Among the synthesized TEA-SAILs, [TEA PS][HSO 4 ], possessing the highest acidity, exhibited excellent catalytic activity with an MDC yield of up to 84.2% and a selectivity of 93.5% under mild conditions, which compares favorably with numerous reported catalytic systems. The plausible reaction pathway for the MPC condensation catalyzed by [TEA PS][HSO 4 ] was proposed based on In-situ FT-IR experiments and DFT calculations, suggesting a nucleophilic substitution mechanism. [TEA PS][HSO 4 ] demonstrates remarkable reusability and can be efficiently recovered via simple heterogeneous separation. TEA-SAIL not only enhances reaction efficiency but also substantially reduces the required reactor volume, aligning with the principles of green and sustainable chemical manufacturing. The phosgene-free synthesis of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) from dimethyl carbonate (DMC) involves the acid-catalyzed condensation of methyl N-phenylcarbamate (MPC) with formaldehyde (HCHO) to produce methylene diphenyl carbamate (MDC). This study investigates the catalytic properties of a commercial acidic clay (HM-X), with a focus on its acidity and Brønsted/Lewis (B/L) balance. Characterization by XRD, N2 adsorption, NH3-TPD, and pyridine-IR shows that HM-X has a high density of medium and strong acid sites, with a notable Brønsted component. Under certain reaction conditions in DMC with co-fed water, HM-X achieved an 88.1% MDC yield at 90 °C after 6 hours. However, excessive acidity promoted side reactions, decreasing MDC selectivity. These findings highlight the importance of optimizing Brønsted and Lewis sites to balance activity and selectivity, providing insights for designing efficient, recyclable solid acids for sustainable, phosgene-free MDI production.

Autophagy-impairment is involved in the pathological process of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and relates to inflammation and emphysema in lung injury. This study aimed to elucidate the protective effect of S -Allylmercapto- N -acetylcysteine (ASSNAC) against COPD via regulating the autophagy. Firstly, porcine pancreatic elastase (PPE)-induced COPD model in A549 cells was established, and ASSNAC was verified to alleviate the autophagy-impairment from the results of western blotting analysis of LC3BⅡ/Ⅰ and monodansylcadaverine (MDC) staining of autophagosome . Secondly, Balb/c mice were stimulated by PPE to induce the COPD model in vivo . The histological analysis of lung tissues presented that ASSNAC could alleviate the lung injury induced by PPE. Thirdly, the secretions of NO , TNF- α and IL-1 β in serum and BALF were reduced by ASSNAC compared with the PPE group. Finally, the mechanism of therapeutic effects of ASSNAC against COPD through regulating the autophagy-impairment was clarified. That is, ASSNAC inhibits the phosphorylation of PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathways. In a word, this research provides a reference for ASSNAC to be an effective drug for pulmonary diseases.
