Silica particles were modified with 3-methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane (MPS) as a carrier material. The tetracycline (TC) molecular imprinting polymer based on the surface of modified silica (MPS/SiO 2 ) was prepared by adopting the novel surface molecular imprinting technique with tetracycline as template molecule and ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (EGDE) as crosslinker. The rebinding capacity of molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was evaluated according to the adsorption kinetics and the adsorption isotherm. The two distinct linear portions in Scatchard analysis indicate that two classes of binding sites existed in the imprinted polymer. The MIP obtained was used as a selective sorbent for molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (MISPE) prior to HPLC analysis. The results showed that good linearity was observed in the range of 150∼950 μg/L for TC, with a correlation coefficient of 0.9972. Adding level of 300∼700 μg/L, the average of spiked recoveries of TC is about 81.1 %, with a relative standard deviation (RSD) range from 3.0 to 4.4 %, and the limit of detection (LOD) reached 25 μg/L. The proposed method is easy to operate, reliable, and applicable to analyze the TC residues in milk samples.

A highly selective sample cleanup method using molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP) was developed for the enrichment of domoic acid (DA, an amnesic shellfish toxin) from both seawater and shellfish samples. Molecular modelling was firstly applied to screening a suitable functional monomer and optimize the polymer preparation. Theoretical results were in a good agreement with those of the experimental studies. MIP was prepared by precipitation polymerization using 1, 3, 5-pentanetricarboxylic acid and 2-(Trifluoromethyl)acrylic acid as the template molecule and functional monomer, respectively. The morphology and molecular structure of MIP were revealed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), respectively. The obtained MIP showed high affinity and selectivity for DA with binding site numbers of 0.875 mg g −1 and an average association constant of 0.219 L mg −1 evaluated by adsorption experiments. The developed molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (MISPE) column achieved satisfied adsorption rate (99.2%) and recovery (71.2%) with relative standard deviation (RSD) less than 1.0%, which is more stable and precise than the C 18 , SAX, and HLB columns. Finally, the determination method for DA in both seawater and shellfish samples was then successfully established and validated using MISPE coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection (HPLC-UV). The method limit of detection was 20 μg L −1 and 50 μg kg −1 for seawater and shellfish, respectively. This study demonstrates that molecular modelling is a useful tool to screening functional monomer and optimize polymer preparation. It provides an innovative polymer for trace DA monitoring in both seawater and shellfish.

In this paper, a kind of surface molecular imprinting polymers in hydrous solution, with glucose selectively recognition, was successfully synthesized by surface molecular imprinting method, using glucose (Glu) as template molecule, acrylamide as functional monomers, N,N ′-methylenebisacrylamide as the cross-linking agent, ammonium peroxydisulfate as the initiator, activated silica gel (SiO 2 @NH 2 ) as support particles. The influences of cross-linker, initiator as well as support particles amount on the adsorption capacity of Glu-MIPs were performed by single-factor experiments. The optimum conditions were 100 mg of cross-linker, 25 mg of initiator and 1 g of SiO 2 @NH 2 . The adsorption and thermodynamics research revealed that the adsorption of MIPs was fitted to Langmuir, maximum imprinting factor of 2.49 and maximum absorption capacity of 50.06 mg/g. Furthermore, a procedure of extraction of glucose from real fruits samples using the Glu-MIPs as solid-phase extraction adsorbent was developed to apply in analytical techniques.

An efficient, accurate and sensitive method for the determination of five iridoid glycosides (IGs) in Cornus officinalis fructus using molecularly imprinted solid phase extraction (MISPE) coupled with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) has been developed. Water-compatible molecularly imprinted beads (MIBs) were synthesized by precipitation polymerization, using alkenyl glycosides glucose as the hydrophilic functional monomer. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the MIBs had a narrow particle size distribution, with diameters in the range 7.5–9.3 μm. The special molecular recognition by the MIBs of IGs in aqueous media was verified by static adsorption, kinetic adsorption, and selectivity experiments. The newly prepared MIBs were used as sorbents in solid phase extraction (SPE) for the selective recognition of five IGs (loganin, morroniside, loganic acid, 7- O -ethyl-morroniside and 7- O -methyl morroniside) in Cornus officinalis fructus. When optimized, the MISPE-HPLC method had good linearity (0.02–100 mg g −1 ), with correlation coefficient ( R ) ≥ 0.994. Recoveries at three spiked levels were in the range 80.0%–94.0%. Because of its excellent specificity and hydrophilicity, SPE based on monodisperse MIBs provides a promising pretreatment strategy for the analysis of active components in natural products, especially for the quality control of traditional Chinese medicines.
