In this work, transition metal ion- doped zinc-based quantum dots (QDs) are synthesized via a greener controllable method to avoid the toxicity of the traditional cadmium-based QDs and broaden the tunable emission. Herein, the tunable emission of Cu-doped ZnInS/ZnS core-shell QDs (Cu:ZnInS/ZnS) can cover from 500 to 620 nm by varying the Cu dopant concentration from 1 to 20% and the maximum quantum yield can reach 49.8%. Based on the single-doped QDs, Cu,Mn co-doped ZnInS/ZnS core-shell QDs (Cu,Mn:ZnInS/ZnS) with a photoluminance (PL) quantum yield of 30.4% are obtained. All the as-synthesized QDs have the zinc blende structure and the average size is about 3.55 nm. Besides, the interaction mechanism between the Cu and Mn dopant luminescence centers is proposed in this work, which is rarely investigated in the previous report. Diffusion priority and energy transfer between these two dopants are supposed to play an important role in the co-doped QDs and Cu ions could affect the splitting of Mn d states. Color coordinates of these doped QDs show the line-tunability from (0.200, 0.397) to (0.408, 0.508) on the Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) chromatic diagram, showing a promising potential in high-quality white light output by integration of these QDs with blue chips.

The utilization of a low-cost common waste biomass, mugwort, with a porous structure is important for the treatment of Arsenic (III) pollution in the aquatic environment. In this study, mugwort straw was first delignified to expose more hydroxyl groups, then loaded with MnOOH and α − FeOOH and constructed with p − n heterojunctions on cellulosic biochar microinterfaces. The successful formation of p − n heterojunction effectively enhances the electric field enhancement inside the photocatalyst, promotes charge transfer and suppresses the recombination of photogenerated carriers. Application of high-energy electron beam irradiation of FMBC−LR2 to modulate the generation and dominant mechanism of Fe and Mn in the reaction system. The results showed that Mn 3+ underwent disproportionation reaction to form Mn 2+ and Mn 4+ . Among them, Mn 2+ led to the formation of MnFe 2 O 4 , while Mn 4+ exhibited stronger oxidizing properties that could promote the transformation of Fe 2+ to Fe 3+ , thus allowing more Fe 3+ to participate in the photocatalytic oxidation of As(III) in a synergistic manner. As(III) oxidation efficiency increased 9.18 times after delignification treatment (FMBC−LR2) and 12.31 times after high-energy electron beam irradiation (FMBC−LR2 − 650) as compared to mugwort straw biochar (BC). In addition, the EPR assay results indicated that ·O 2 − , ·OH, and 1 O 2 acted together in the As(III) reaction. This provides new insights into the remediation of composite modified biochar in water bodies and a new environmentally friendly strategy for the comprehensive utilization of straw materials.

Ion doping is an effective strategy to regulate the optical performance in metal halide perovskites for desirable light emission manipulations. In this work, a Mn 2+ and Ag + co-doping strategy is utilized to improve the luminescence in Cs 4 CdBi 2 Cl 12 quadruple perovskite. Mn 2+ and Ag + ions are proven to be incorporated into Cs 4 CdBi 2 Cl 12 lattice. Mn 2+ ions occupy Cd 2+ sites and Ag + ions occupy Cd 2+ sites or vacancies. The alloyed Mn 2+ ions bring efficient orange-red luminescence attributed to the energy transfer process from the host to Mn 2+ ions. A small amount of Ag + doping can optimize the band structure and increase the exciton binding energy, thus promoting efficient radiative recombination from d–d transition of Mn 2+ ions and boosting the PLQY up to 94.6%. Furthermore, Cs 4 Cd 0.75 Mn 0.25 Bi 2 Cl 12 :1.5%Ag + show good phase and emission stability in ambient environment and is employed in white light-emitting diodes with commercial blue and green phosphors on a near-ultraviolet LED chip. This work provides insights for understanding the composition-structure-property relationship in vacancy-ordered quadruple perovskites and designing highly efficient luminescent lead-free metal halides for solid-state light emitting applications.

Red-emitting color-convertors have attracted considerable attention for promising applications in solid-state lighting (SSL) to improve color rendition. However, the current nitride and fluoride phosphor powders have encountered several challenges, such as high cost, narrow emission bands, and insufficient stability during operation, which limit the development of high-power full-spectrum SSL. In this study, thermally robust Gd 3 (Al,Ga) 5 O 12 :Mn (GAGG:Mn) solid-solution ceramics (SSCs) with dual wavelength red-emission bands were prepared via an oxygen solid-state sintering reaction. The doped Mn ions occupied octahedral Al 3+ and Ga 3+ sites to generate Mn 4+ luminescent centers with pronounced deep-red emissions peaking at 698 nm ( 2 E → 4 A 2 ), and Mn 2+ luminescent centers with broad red emissions at 628 nm ( 4 T 1 → 6 A 1 ). Because the cationic radius matching effect induced the regulation of valence state of Mn, the photoluminescence of the GAGG:Mn SSCs can be tailored by the substitution of Al 3+ with Ga 3+ . Moreover, the Mn 3+ also existed in the GAGG lattice host, and their concentration decreased with increasing Ga 3+ contents owing to the mismatch of ionic radius between Mn 3+ and Ga 3+ ions. With the optimization of Al/Ga ratio and concentration of Mn ions, a broad emission band ranging from 550 to 800 nm (bandwidth = 250 nm) was achieved from Gd 3 Al 3 Ga 2 O 12 :0.3%Mn SSCs upon 465-nm excitation. Moreover, the GAGG:Mn SSC has over 17-fold enhanced thermal conductivity compared with the corresponding phosphor powder. This paper opens a door of regulating the valence state of luminescence centers with cation substitution and the application of oxide red-emitting color-convertors.

Surface passivation in quantum dot-sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs) plays a very important role in preventing surface charge recombination and thus enhancing the power conversion efficiency (PCE). ZnSe passivation with dopant in CdS/CdSe co-sensitized QDSSCs has been demonstrated as an effective way to improve the PCE. In the present study, a series of characterizations revealed that a Mn-doped ZnSe passivation layer can not only reduce surface charge recombination, but also enhance light harvesting. By means of density functional theory calculation along with a systematic study of electronic band structure, it has been found that the valence band of ZnSe moves upward on Mn-ion doping which leads to acceleration of charge separation and broader light absorption range. The impact of the Mn ion on charge recombination and light harvesting has been interpreted reasonably and the PCE of CdS/CdSe co-sensitized QDSSCs with Mn-doped ZnSe passivation layer is as high as 6.46%, which is 1.5 times that of the solar cell without the passivation layer.

The cGAS-STING signaling pathway effectively activates antitumor immune responses and holds promise for overcoming drug resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) immunotherapy. However, achieving specific activation of this pathway in HCC remains challenging. Here, it is introduced a single-metal-doped nanoplatform, ZMRPF, which leverages ferroptosis-induced mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) release to stimulate cGAS-STING-mediated immune activation. ZMRPF initiates HCC ferroptosis by inducing high levels of lipid reactive oxygen species, leading to mitochondrial stress and the release of endogenous mtDNA. This mtDNA synergistically activates the cGAS-STING pathway, enhanced by immunoactivating Mn 2 ⁺ ions released from ZMRPF. Concurrently, the tumor antigens released during ferroptosis amplify the activity of antigen-presenting cells, creating a cascade that links ferroptosis with innate immunity. This cascade drives a robust systemic antitumor immune response, effectively reversing the immunosuppressive microenvironment of HCC. These results demonstrate the ability of ZMRPF to reshape the immune microenvironment of HCC and offer a promising strategy for next-generation tumor immunotherapy.
