We report that the Co/Mn oxides nanocomposite, obtained by directly pyrolying cobalt doped Mn-BTC precursor, is a new oxidase mimetic for colorimetric sensing of acid phosphatase (ACP). By tuning the molar ratios of cobalt ions to Mn-BTC (BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate) precursor, four bimetal Co/Mn-BTCs and their derivatives were obtained. These Co/Mn oxides showed 1.4-fold to 2.6-fold higher oxidase-like activity than that of Mn 2 O 3 derived from Mn-BTC, indicating that Co-doping is an effective way for improving and tuning oxidase-like activity of manganese oxides. The rambutan-like Co/Mn oxides with Co/Mn molar ratio of 0.33 (denoted CMO-0.33) in the MOFs precursors exhibited the highest oxidase-like activity. The estimated Michaelis constant for 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) was 2.26-fold lower than that of Mn 2 O 3 , indicating its stronger affinity to TMB. Based on the inhibitory effect of ascorbic acid (AA) on the TMB-CMO-0.33 system, a new colorimetric strategy was paved for screening ACP activity when coupled with L-ascorbic acid 2-phosphate trisodium salt (AAP) because ACP could catalyze hydrolysis of AAP to generate AA. The proposed colorimetric biosensor allows detection of ACP in the range 0.02–1.0 U/L with a limit of detection of 8.2 mU/L. Its potential utilization in ACP assay in human serum samples is successfully demonstrated.

Mesoporous 10CeO x /MnO x -Y catalysts were successfully prepared by doping Ce and calcining Mn-BTC (BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate) for ozone catalytic decomposition. The 10CeO x /MnO x -300 catalyst exhibited the highest catalytic activity under the relative humidity (RH) range from less than 5–65 %, giving 100 % conversion of 40 ppm O 3 after 6 h. Series of physicochemical characterizations including XRD, TG, SEM, HR-TEM, ICP-OES, BET, XPS and H 2 -TPR were introduced the relationship of calcination temperature, catalysts structure and ozone catalytic performance. The results demonstrated that the 10CeO x /MnO x -300 catalyst had the highest Mn 3+ /Mn 4+ and O ads /O latt ratios and the largest specific surface compared with those of other samples, which are crucial to decompose ozone. In addition, better dispersion of crystals, larger pore volume, more oxygen vacancies, and better low-temperature reducibility are also conducive to ozone decomposition. This research establishes the basis for the application of manganese-based MOFs for ozone decomposition.

Mesoporous MnO x -Y and LnO x /MnO x ozone decomposition catalysts were prepared by calcination of Mn-BTC (BTC = 1,3,5-benzentricarboxylate) and doping of lanthanide elements (Ln = La, Ce, Sm, Eu, Er). Compared to MnO x -Y catalysts, the LnO x /MnO x catalysts showed higher ozone catalytic activity, the mutual conversion between Ln n+ and Mn n+ was helpful to improve ozone decomposition. The CeO x /MnO x catalyst showed the highest catalytic that showed 93% conversion of 40 ppm O 3 in the relative humidity (RH) = 65% after 360 min, which was attributed to the largest specific surface area, more oxygen vacancies , Mn 3+ and O ads . In addition, the CeO x /MnO x catalyst was loaded into the non-woven fabric to obtain CeO x /MnO x -NWF catalyst, which showed a highly efficient and stable ozone conversion under the RH range from less than 5%–85%. This work will promote the practical application of Mn-BTC derived catalysts.

Green two-step alkaline hydrolysis–calcination yields hollow MnO x spheres from Mn-BTC. • H 3 BTC is efficiently recovered and reused, yielding high atom economy. • MBN 1.0 –500 hosts a MnO 2 /Mn 5 O 8 biphasic heterostructure with O vacancies. • MBN 1.0 –500 achieves low-temperature toluene oxidation: T 90 = 196 °C and E a = 29.4 kJ mol −1 . • DFT and in situ DRIFTS show the interface lowers vacancy energy, boosts toluene activation. Tuning the oxygen species reactivity of manganese-based catalysts is critical for the efficient catalytic oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Herein, a series of hollow spherical manganese oxide catalysts (MBN₁.₀-T) were synthesized via a two-step alkaline hydrolysis-calcination strategy using Mn-BTC as the precursor. Notably, the organic ligand trimesic acid (H₃BTC) can be efficiently recovered and reused after alkaline treatment, endowing the synthesis route with excellent atom economy. Among the obtained catalysts, MBN₁.₀-500, featuring a MnO₂/Mn₅O₈ biphasic heterostructure, delivers outstanding low-temperature catalytic performance for toluene oxidation with T₉₀ as low as 196 °C and an apparent activation energy of 29.4 kJ mol −1 . Comprehensive characterizations combined with DFT calculations reveal that the abundant heterointerfaces between MnO₂ and Mn₅O₈ significantly reduce the oxygen vacancy formation energy and enhance toluene adsorption and activation, thereby promoting the generation of reactive oxygen species and accelerating lattice oxygen mobility. In situ DRIFTS confirms that the degradation pathway of toluene proceeds as toluene → benzyl alcohol → benzaldehyde → benzoate → maleic anhydride → CO₂ and H₂O. This work not only provides a sustainable strategy for constructing high-performance MnOₓ catalysts with abundant oxygen vacancies, but also highlights the great potential of ligand recovery for industrial application.
