The low-temperature oxidation of methane gas in coal mine exhaust gas is important for reducing the greenhouse effect and protecting the environment. Unfortunately, the carbon–hydrogen bonds in methane molecules are highly stable, requiring higher reaction temperatures to achieve effective catalytic oxidation. However, metal oxide-based catalysts face the problem of easy sintering and the deactivation of active components at high temperatures, which is an important challenge that catalysts need to overcome in practical applications. In this work, a series of Mn-Co3O4active components were grown in situ on ZSM-5 zeolite with mesoporous pore structures treated with an alkaline solution via a hydrothermal synthesis method. Due to the presence of polyethylene glycol as a structure-directing agent, manganese can be uniformly doped into the Co3O4lattice. The large specific surface area of ZSM-5 zeolite allows the active component Mn-Co3O4to be uniformly dispersed, effectively preventing the sintering and growth of active component particles during the catalytic reaction process. It is worth mentioning that the Mn-Co3O4/meso-ZSM-5-6.67 catalyst has a methane conversion rate of up to 90% at a space velocity of 36,000 mL·g−1·h−1and a reaction temperature of 363 °C. This is mainly due to the mesoporous ZSM-5 carrier with a high specific surface area, which is conducive to the adsorption and mass transfer of reaction molecules. The active component has an abundance of oxygen vacancies, which is conducive to the activation of reaction molecules and enhances its catalytic activity, which is even higher than that of noble metal-based catalysts. The new ideas for the preparation of metal oxide-based low-temperature methane oxidation catalysts proposed in this work are expected to provide new solutions for low-temperature methane oxidation reactions and promote technological progress in related fields.

Incorporating solar steam generation with the hydrovoltaic effect presents a promising approach to concurrently addressing water scarcity and energy challenges. However, realizing a high water evaporation rate while simultaneously maintaining substantial electrical output in a single device remains a formidable obstacle. Here, this study presents a novel hydrovoltaic and galvanic effects-coupled evaporation platform (HGEP) for dual-function applications in freshwater production and electricity generation from seawater. Coating urchin-like Mn-doped Co 3 O 4 on inclined nickel foam (NF), the system achieves a stable evaporation rate of 1.77 kg m −2 h −1 in 3.5 wt% brine under 1 kW m −2 irradiation with a 30° tilt angle. The inclined structure facilitates unidirectional ion transport by establishing a salinity gradient, effectively preventing salt deposition for up to 8 h. Moreover, integrating Zr-Al electrodes effectively combines the hydrovoltaic and galvanic effects, enabling the HGEP to deliver a stable open-circuit voltage of 1.0 V and a short-circuit current of 1.5 mA—over an order of magnitude higher than the pure hydrovoltaic effect (0.49 V, 0.15 mA)—and achieve a maximum power density of 0.8 W m −2 . This study presents an innovative solar-powered water treatment technology that simultaneously achieves water production and power generation

The greenhouse effect caused by direct emissions of lean methane from coal mining is 25 times greater than that of CO 2 . To reduce the methane content in the atmosphere, it is imperative to develop high-activity, stable, and low cost methane-catalyzed combustion catalysts. In this work, a series of Mn-doped Co 3 O 4 hollow nanocages with dodecahedral shape were prepared using the metal-organic framework (MOF) material ZIF-67 as a template, combined with an in-situ growth method and a high-temperature calcination process. The optimized hollow structure Mn 0.6 /Co 3 O 4 -H (T 90 = 302 °C) exhibited higher catalytic activity than the solid structure Mn 0.6 /Co 3 O 4 -S (T 90 = 387 °C). On the one hand, Mn 0.6 /Co 3 O 4 -H has abundant O ads /O latt (0.61) and high Co 3+ /Co 2+ (1.11) content, which increases the adsorption of reactive molecules. In addition, the adsorption of methane by the Mn 0.6 /Co 3 O 4 -H catalyst reached 0.77 cm 3 /g at 273 K, increasing the methane concentration inside the catalyst. Concurrently, the hollow structure also establishes fast mass and heat transfer channels, leading to a significant improvement in the catalytic performance. The new catalyst developed in this study provides a new perspective and insight for reducing methane emissions during coal mining and reducing its negative impact on the environment.

The oxygen evolution kinetics of industrial copper electrodeposition is slow, resulting in low electrocatalytic activity and high energy consumption. In this work, a quaternary composite of carbon coated active particles containing Mn, Co and Ce were prepared (Mn-Co 3 O 4 /CeO 2 @C), and Ti/Sb-SnO 2 /PbO 2 electrode doped with these active particles was prepared by co-electrodeposition. The microstructure and chemical composition of the electrode was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD). Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and Tafel polarization curve (Tafel) were used to study the electrochemical properties of anode materials. The results showed that the doping of Mn-Co 3 O 4 /CeO 2 @C active particles promoted the crystal transition of PbO 2 , decreased the average grain size, and the doping of Ce increases the average valence state of Co. The modified titanium electrode showed excellent catalytic activity of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) characteristics. The overpotential of the doped Ti/Sb-SnO 2 /PbO 2 anode was only 453 mV when the current density was 20 mA cm −2 in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 solution, which is 508 mV lower than that of the undoped Ti/Sb-SnO 2 /PbO 2 anode. In simulated copper electro-deposition experiments, the cell voltage was reduced by about 400 mV, compared to the undoped Ti/Sb-SnO 2 /PbO 2 electrode.

Mn doping creates symmetry-broken Co δ+ -O-Ru δ− heterointerfaces. • Polarized Ru and Co sites enable catalytic shunting of ORR and OER. • Reversible metal-oxygen bond adaptation accelerates Li 2 O 2 conversion. • The catalyst delivers an ultralow discharge-charge overpotential of 0.37 V. • Li-O 2 cells reach 34,738 mAh g −1 and cycle stably for 208 cycles. Aprotic Li-O 2 batteries require efficient bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysis, yet ORR and OER impose conflicting demands on oxygen-intermediate adsorption and product desorption. Herein, we construct a symmetry-broken Mn-doped Co 3 O 4 /RuO 2 heterointerface on carbon cloth to couple catalytic shunting with self-adaptive interfacial bonding. Mn incorporation reinforces Co-O-Ru coupling and generates asymmetric Co δ⁺ -O-Ru δ⁻ units, as verified by XPS, XAS, and theoretical calculations. The resulting interfacial polarization spatially divides the oxygen-redox pathway: electron-enriched Ru sites preferentially promote O₂ adsorption/activation for ORR, whereas electron-deficient Co sites facilitate Li₂O₂ decomposition/desorption for OER. Meanwhile, in situ Raman spectroscopy and theoretical bond-length analysis reveal reversible metal-oxygen bond elongation/contraction during discharge/charge, enabling temporal adaptation of interfacial bonding to evolving intermediates. This spatial shunting and temporal self-adaptation synergistically mitigate the adsorption-desorption conflict, improve Li 2 O 2 reversibility, and maintain efficient charge-transfer pathways. Consequently, the Mn-Co 3 O 4 /RuO 2 cathode achieves a low overpotential of 0.37 V, a high discharge capacity of 34,781 mAh g −1 , and stable cycling for 208 cycles. Designing affordable electrocatalysts that accelerate the oxygen evolution reaction and resist chloride corrosion is key for practical seawater electrolysis. A fan-like Mn–Co 3 O 4 @Mo–Co 3 O 4 core–shell heterostructure was synthesized, where vertically aligned Mn-doped Co 3 O 4 nanowires serve as structural ribs and conformal Mo-doped Co 3 O 4 nanosheets form the fan surface. Dual Mn/Mo doping creates oxygen vacancies and modulates the metal–oxygen electronic structure, boosting intermediate adsorption and OER kinetics, while the nanosheet–nanowire framework maximizes active sites and facilitates charge and mass transport. As a result, the catalyst delivers an overpotential of 220 mV at 50 mA cm −2 in 1 M KOH, outperforming other reference samples. In alkaline seawater, it maintains overpotentials of 252 and 289 mV at 50 and 100 mA cm −2 and exhibits negligible degradation over 120 h with nearly 100% Faradaic efficiency. These results demonstrate that synergistic electronic tuning and nano-architectural design enable robust electrocatalysts for efficient seawater electrolysis.
