Two-dimensional MoS2/Mn-MOF/multi-walled carbon nanotubes composite material for high-performance supercapacitors

Wenhao Peng,Ningning Song,Zilong Su,Jiajun Wang,Kaixuan Chen,Shuji Li,Bingyan Wei,Shiping Luo,Aijuan Xie

A series of MoS 2 and Mn metal organic frameworks (Mn-MOF) were synthesized by hydrothermal method, and then MoS 2 , Mn-MOF and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were mixed in different mass ratios and applied for supercapacitor. Cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and galvanostatic charge–discharge (GCD) are used to investigate the electrochemical performance of MoS 2 /Mn-MOF/MWCNT materials with different mass ratios. The experimental results show that when the mass ratio of m(MoS 2 ): m(Mn-MOF): m(MWCNT) is 1:4:1, the electrochemical performance of the MoS 2 /Mn-MOF/MWCNT composite is the best. The specific capacitance of optimal MoS 2 /Mn-MOF/MWCNT (1:4:1) reaches 862.73F g −1 , which is noticeable higher than that of MoS 2 (42.29F g −1 ), Mn-MOF (70.23F g −1 ) and MWCNT (347.27F g −1 ) materials. Moreover, the EIS test manifests that the MoS 2 /Mn-MOF/MWCNT (1:4:1) composite has a lower R ct value (2.566 Ω). Therefore, MoS 2 /Mn-MOF/MWCNT (1:4:1) has the best electrochemical performance among the all as-fabricated supercapacitor materials. This research provides an effective method for the development of Mn-based supercapacitor materials and improves the capacitance performance of MOFs materials.

Efficient Photocatalytic Degradation of Rhodamine B With Heterostructured CdS/Mn-MOF Composite

Huan Zhang,Wen-Qi Jin,Peng Li,Wei Gao,Xiu-Mei Zhang

A highly efficient photocatalyst, the CdS/Mn-MOF composite, was synthesized by first preparing a new 2D Mn-MOF (Mn(L)·H 2 O, H 2 L = 5-(2-benzothiazolyl)isophthalic acid) precursor through the solvothermal method and subsequently growing CdS nanoparticles. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV–vis spectroscopy, and other techniques were utilized to characterize the structural, morphological, textural, compositional, and optical properties of the composites. The prepared photocatalysts, designated as X-CdS/Mn-MOF (where X = 50, 25, and 10, represents the mass percentage of CdS), were tested for photocatalytic performance. Among them, the 50-CdS/Mn-MOF sample exhibits the optimized degradation efficiency of 99.1% for Rhodamine B (RhB, 20 mg/L) in 50 min under visible light irradiation, which is 7.3 times and 2.4 times higher than that of Mn-MOF and CdS, respectively. Various test results indicate that the improved photocatalytic activity of CdS/Mn-MOF composites can be attributed to the formation of heterojunctions. Specifically, the heterojunctions enhance the separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers and effectively suppress the recombination of electrons and holes, thereby improving the overall efficiency of the photocatalytic reaction. Moreover, the presence of heterojunctions optimizes the material's band structure, facilitating more efficient carrier transport, which further enhances photodegradation performance. Radical quenching experiments confirmed hydroxyl radicals (·OH − ) and superoxide radical anions (·O 2 − ) played dominant roles in the photodegradation process. Additionally, the composite material also demonstrates good stability and reproducibility. The research further provides evidence that the efficiency of dye degradation can be significantly improved by the rational design of composite catalysts consisting of other semiconductors and MOFs.

Fabrication of a novel Eu3+-functionalized Mn-MOF based on the X-type tetracarboxylate ligand for efficient temperature sensing

Jian-Wei Zhang,Ya Chen,Yong-Ya Zhang,Wei Wei

In this work, by utilizing an X-type tetracarboxylate ligand (1,2,4,5-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)benzene, H 4 TCPB), a novel Mn-organic framework, namely, [(CH 3 CH 2 ) 2 NH 2 ] 2 [Mn(TCPB)(H 2 O) 2 ] ( SQNU-25 , SQNU = Shangqiu Normal University), was prepared under a DEF/HAc solm. Due to the structural advantage of SQNU-25 , the Ln 3+ ions (Eu 3+ and Gd 3+ ) have been successfully introduced into the framework by post-synthetic modification. The result of the energy levels of the H 4 TCPB ligand and Eu 3+ ion shows that the H 4 TCPB ligand as a chromophore can effectively sensitize Eu 3+ ions. Moreover, the Eu@SQNU-25 not only shows a typical Eu 3+ ion red emission but also exhibits good temperature sensing in the wide temperature range (80 to 300 K).

Lan Xiao,Jian Wen,Guanghui Wu,Pinghua Chen,Mengxue Wang,Hualin Jiang,Xinming Zhou,Jianan Yan

Rational design of efficient and low-cost oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts is a key challenge in the development of various clean energy technologies. Here, flower-shaped FeCo-MOF-74/Mn-MOF-74 (FeCo/Mn mass ratio x:y, denoted as FCMx-y) electrocatalysts were synthesized through a two-step simple solvothermal methods and applied to the OER. These synthesized OER catalysts exhibited effective synergistic effects, high conductivity, electrochemical active surface area, carrier density, enhancing the intrinsic activity of MOF-74. Among them, the optimized FeCo-MOF-74/Mn-MOF-74 (named FCM1-2) required only a low overpotential of 280/382 mV to achieve 10/300 mA cm −2 in 1 mol/L KOH, outperforming control samples and commercial IrO 2 . Furthermore, the catalyst demonstrated high electrocatalytic activity, rapid catalytic kinetics, and excellent stability. This research provides a reference for the industrial design of advanced OER electrocatalysts with high current density for sustainable energy technologies.

Doping Effect in Mn MOF-74 Induced Enhanced Urea Oxidation Assisted Hydrogen Production

Kang Wang,Chao Fan,Ruihang Hu,Chen Sun,Yan-Qin Wang

During conventional water electrolysis for hydrogen production, the high theoretical potential of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) leads to excessive energy consumption. In contrast, the urea oxidation reaction (UOR), with its significantly lower theoretical potential, has attracted considerable attention as an energy-efficient alternative for hydrogen production. In this study, we develop a Ni-doped Mn MOF-74 catalyst Ni-Mn MOF-74 supported on carbon cloth (CC), exhibiting a unique bud-like architecture featuring a petal-surrounded pistil morphology, which exhibits excellent UOR performance in alkaline medium. This catalyst achieves a current density of 100 mA cm-2 at an ultralow potential of 1.40 V (vs. RHE) in 1.0 M KOH + 0.5 M urea electrolyte while maintaining remarkable stability. Importantly, in a urea-assisted hydrogen production electrolyzer composed of Ni-Mn MOF-74 (anode) and Pt/C (cathode), the system delivers a current density of 100 mA cm⁻² at a cell voltage of only 1.49 V in alkaline freshwater and 1.50 V in alkaline seawater, respectively, while remaining excellent stability. The enhanced UOR activity stems from Ni doping, which effectively modulates the catalyst's morphology and electronic structure, the synergism of Ni and Mn strengthening the adsorption of urea molecule and OH- ion, thereby accelerating urea decomposition kinetics.

Ratiometric fluorescent sensor CQDx@Co/Mn-MOF for rapid and sensitive detection of quinolone antibiotics

Yin-Xia Sun,Xue Bai,Ai-Ping Luo,Yu Sun,Zhe-Peng Deng,Wan-Hong Sun,Wen-Yu Han

Quinolone antibiotics pose a threat to health and the environment due to their difficulty in decomposition and misuse. A novel fluorescence composite material CQD x @Co/Mn-MOF has been developed, which uses cobalt (Co) and manganese (Mn) as metal centers and 1,3,5-triazobenzene as organic ligands. Meaningfully, CQD x @Co/Mn-MOF can be designed as a ratiometric fluorescence sensor for detecting quinolone antibiotics, especially norfloxacin (NFX). In a series of CQD x @Co/Mn-MOF, CQD 6μL @Co/Mn-MOF sensor exhibits good linearity within the NFX concentration range of 1–4 × 10 −5  M, with a detection limit of 0.70 μM. Compared with Co/Mn-MOF, introducing CQDs significantly reduces the detection limit from 3.50 μM to 0.70 μM and increases the detection sensitivity by five times. The CQD 6μL @Co/Mn-MOF sensor exhibits fast response time (2 s), high selectivity and sensitivity to NFX, making it an ideal ratiometric fluorescent sensor for the detection of these antibiotics. Based on its excellent detection performance, the sensor was further applied to the quantitative determination of NFX in chicken, beef and honey samples and satisfactory results were obtained with recoveries ranging from 97.51 % to 108.60 %. In addition, based on CQD 6μL @Co/Mn-MOF test strips, convenient and real-time detection of quinolone antibiotics has been achieved. In conclusion, the CQD 6μL @Co/Mn-MOF ratiometric fluorescent sensor provides a reliable, sensitive and efficient analytical method for the detection and evaluation of trace NFX in food, which is of great significance for ensuring food safety and public health.

Constructed CdS/Mn-MOF heterostructure for promoting photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B

Cai-Yong Zhu,Meng-Ting Shen,Meng-Jie Qi,Ya-Yu Zhao,Zhen Xu,Peng Li,Jie Ru,Wei Gao,Xiu-Mei Zhang

A new 3D Mn-MOF was prepared with the ligand H 2 L (H 2 L = 5-(pyrazin-2-yl) isophthalic acid) by solvothermal method. Then the Mn-MOF was used as a precursor to synthesize CdS/Mn-MOF composites. The degradation efficiency of Rhodamine B (RhB) by CdS/Mn-MOF (theoretical mass ratio of CdS to Mn-MOF is 1:1) is 98.7% in 60 min, which is 19.7 times and 2.3 times that of Mn-MOF and CdS, respectively. The outstanding performance is owed to the loading of CdS, which significantly broadens the photoresponsive range of Mn-MOF and improves the utilization of visible light. Meanwhile, the heterojunction formed between Mn-MOF and CdS can effectively inhibit the recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes. Furthermore, the photocurrent intensity of CdS/Mn-MOF(50) is higher than that of Mn-MOF and CdS. The photocatalytic performance of CdS/Mn-MOF(50) also exhibits excellent stability and reusability . In addition, the enhanced mechanism of photocatalytic activity was investigated systematically.

Adenine-assisted synthesis of functionalized F-Mn-MOF-74 as an efficient catalyst with enhanced catalytic activity for the cycloaddition of carbon dioxide

Chao Feng,Shanshan Qiao,Yuan Guo,Yuehong Xie,Li Zhang,Naeem Akram,Shiang Li,Jide Wang

The development of a highly efficient renewable heterogeneous catalysts for the synthesis of cyclic carbonates by the cyclic esterification of epoxides and carbon dioxide under relatively mild reaction conditions is of great significance in the territory of chemical fixation of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ). This work comprises on a functional catalytic material F-Mn-MOF-74 using an effective competitive coordination strategy, adenine (Ad) as alkali source and competitive ligand, introduced onto the synthetic Mn-MOF-74. An F-Mn-MOF-74 crystal having a spherical structure and being functionalized is obtained, and lone pair of electrons on the nitrogen atom in the adenine can compete with 2,5-hydroxyterephthalic acid for coordination. The alkalinity exhibited by adenine is beneficial to enhance the catalytic properties of the crystal in the cycloaddition reaction of epoxide with carbon dioxide. Further catalytic experiments showed that the functionalized F-Mn-MOF-74 crystal combined with tetrabutylammonium bromide in the lacking of solvent showed excellent catalytic activity in the cycloaddition reaction of styrene oxide and carbon dioxide. Under the optimal reaction conditions after screening (100 °C and 10 bar CO 2 pressure), the yield of cyclic carbonate was as high as 99 %. The excellent catalytic performance for other epoxides also confirmed that F-Mn-MOF-74 catalytic material is universal in its application. The catalytic performance of the catalyst was not significantly decreased after being recycled seven times, attributed to its excellent stability. The possible mechanism for the synergistic effect of Lewis acid-base properties of functionalized F-Mn-MOF-74 catalytic material with cocatalyst is also proposed.

Effective removal of cobalt from aqueous solution by Mn-MOF-74 synthesized using room-temperature, water-based synthesis method

Liu Xinying,Lei Yuhan,Shi Jialin,Wang Zixuan,Zhang Wenxiu,Zhang Guanghui,Gu Ping

A novel adsorbent, Mn-MOF-74, was synthesized using a room-temperature, water-based method by assembling Mn 2+ metal nodes with 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid ligands, and was further applied for Co 2+ removal. Mn-MOF-74 exhibited minimal pH dependence within a pH range of 3–8.5, achieving Co 2+ removal efficiencies between 92.5 and 96.3%, with a distribution coefficient of up to 2.9 × 10 4  mL·g −1 . A function relationship between the Co 2+ removal efficiency and the adsorbent dosage or initial concentration was proposed. The dominant removal mechanism was identified as ion exchange between Mn 2+ and Co 2+ , with chemisorption being the primary rate-limiting step.

Evolutionary trends and photothermal catalytic reduction performance of carbon dioxide by MOF-derived MnOx

Dou Chuanchuan,Liu Yuling,Shu Hao,Li Shuaishuai,Shi Qiyuan,Luo Xinzeng

Metal oxide catalysts derived from MOFs can inherit the excellent performance from their parent MOFs, possess abundant surface defects and high stability, and have attracted widespread interest in multiphase catalysis. In this study, we used Mn-MOF as a precursor and systematically investigated the evolution of MnO x catalysts by setting different calcination temperatures and times. XRD, SEM, TEM, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), N 2 adsorption–desorption analysis, XPS, H 2 -TPR, CO 2 -TPD, electrochemical characterization, and other methods were used to investigate the structural characteristics, microstructure, surface properties, and photoelectric properties of the catalysts. The catalytic performance of the catalysts was also investigated through photocatalytic carbon dioxide hydrogenation reduction tests. Research has shown that calcination temperature and time have a significant impact on the phase structure and surface properties of MnO x , and the physicochemical properties of derived MnO x can be controlled by controlling calcination temperature and time. Among them, MnO x -500 has a wider light absorption range, better electron transfer performance, richer oxygen vacancies, and excellent separation performance of photo generated charge carriers, resulting in higher photocatalytic CO 2 hydrogenation and reduction performance. Its CO yield and selectivity reached 7420 μmol/g/h and above 99 %, respectively. This study provides valuable references for the preparation, optimization, and utilization in CO 2 photothermal catalytic conversion of MnO x catalysts derived from MOFs.

A bimetallic Co/Mn metal–organic-framework with a synergistic catalytic effect as peroxidase for the colorimetric detection of H2O2

Xiaoheng Qi,Huiming Tian,Xueming Dang,Yaofang Fan,Yaobin Zhang,Huimin Zhao

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) with a metal coordination structure mimicking that of enzymes have been widely applied in the sensing field for bioassays, and most of the reports focus on single-metal MOFs. However, bimetallic MOFs have fascinating catalytic capabilities due to their bimetallic coordination. Herein, a two-dimensional sheet-like bimetallic Co/Mn-based MOF (Co/Mn-MOF) with peroxidase-like activity was synthesized through a one-step hydrothermal method to accelerate the decomposition of H2O2 with the generation of ˙OH, which further oxidized the classic chromogenic substrate 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) into oxTMB. The Michaelis–Menten constants (Km) and maximum initial velocities (Vmax) of the catalyst were found to be 0.27 mM and 1.64 × 10−7 M s−1 for TMB and 0.24 mM and 5.80 × 10−7 M s−1 for H2O2, respectively. Accordingly, we successfully utilized Co/Mn-MOF-1-1-150 to establish a colorimetric detection platform for the detection of H2O2. A linear absorbance response ranging from 1 to 100 μM with the limit of detection of 0.85 μM (S/N = 3) was obtained under the optimized conditions. The LOD of our catalyst is comparable to that of other MOF-based enzyme mimics for colorimetric detection; this can be ascribed to the synergistic catalytic effect between its two metals, its two-dimensional structure with a small diffusion barrier for the substrate molecules, and large exposed surface area. More importantly, using the proposed sensing method, the determination of H2O2 released by living cells and in spiked water samples was achieved. This revealed that the as-prepared bimetallic Co/Mn-MOF could be a promising candidate as a catalytic material due to its peroxidase activity.

Solvent-engineered morphologies of Mn-MOF toward ultrasensitive sensing cell superoxide

Yuhuan Zhang,Chun Xian Guo,Hongfang Du,Xingyu Wang,Liu Liu,Chang Ming Li

It is critical for fabricating ultrasensitive biosensors to realize real-time in situ monitoring of superoxide anions (O 2 •− ), a typical reactive oxygen species (ROS) that plays critical roles in diverse signaling pathways. Here, a simple on-step strategy was developed for morphology-controllable synthesis of manganese-organic framework (Mn-MOF) toward the enhanced sensing performance of O 2 •− . Interestingly, by delicately tuning the ratios of solvents to regulate initial concentrations of precursors, Mn-MOF nanoparticles , asymmetric nanolollipops and nanorods all with homogeneous components were prepared. As expected, Mn-MOF nanolollipops outperform other nanostructures in O 2 •− sensing due to their larger active surface areas which can attribute to their excellent dispersibility provided by the asymmetric structure, and the faster electron transfer rate promoted by the stem. Using the Mn-MOF nanolollipops-based O 2 •− biosensor, a high sensitivity of 105 μA cm −2 μM −1 is achieved, and the real-time in situ detection of O 2 •− released from living cells was successfully realized. This work holds a great potential in the exploration of O 2 •− -related biological processes in vivo , while offering deep scientific insights for solvents engineered morphologies of other MOF nanomaterials.
