Guo Bin,Rabigul Tursun,Ma Shuaiwu

Graphical This study providing a solid experimental and theoretical basis for solving water pollution, has great research value. Synthesizing the MnTiO 3 with different molar ratios and calcination temperatures. Studying the structure, photodegradation performance, and photodegradation mechanism of synthetic materials, the conclusion is MnTi 0.9 O 3 -900 °C sample has the best photocatalytic performance. With the continuous development of industry, the problem of water pollution is becoming increasingly serious. Methylene blue (Mb) is an important water pollutant that has a negative impact on ecosystems. Photocatalytic technology has been recognized as an effective and environmentally friendly method for solving water pollution, which has attracted widespread research attention. This study providing a solid experimental and theoretical basis for solving water pollution and has high research value. In this paper, MnTiO 3 with different molar ratios (Mn:Ti = 1:0.9 and 1:1) and different calcination temperatures (800, 900, and 1000 °C) was synthesized by sol–gel method. A systematic study was conducted on the structure, photodegradation performance, and photodegradation mechanism of synthetic materials. Research has shown that when the Mn:Ti ratio is 1:0.9 and the calcination temperature is 1000 °C/2 h, pure MnTiO 3 phase can be obtained. Among them, the MnTi 0.9 O 3 -900 °C/2 h sample composed of MnTiO 3 , TiO 2 , and Mn 2 O 3 phases showed the highest photocatalytic degradation efficiency (54.3%) towards Mb. The mechanism of the excellent photocatalytic activity of MnTi 0.9 O 3 -900 °C/2 h is due to its narrow bandgap, porous structure, abundant oxygen vacancies, and heterojunction structure, which enhances light absorption and improves electron hole separation efficiency.

Superior synergistic effect derived from MnTiO3 nanodiscs for the reversible hydrogen storage properties of MgH2

Chao Ma,Baozhou Zhao,Jianguang Yuan,Yunfeng Zhu,Jiguang Zhang,Bogu Liu,Ying Wu,Liquan Li,Shaoxiong Zhou

Herein, nanodisc-like MnTiO 3 was successfully prepared via a hydrothermal method , and for the first time, the MnTiO 3 nanodiscs were doped into magnesium hydride (MgH 2 ) for the study. In the first dehydrogenation cycle, MgH 2 -8 wt% MnTiO 3 showed a low onset hydrogen release temperature of 202 °C, while MnTiO 3 was transformed into Mg 6 MnO 8 and TiO x by reaction with MgH 2 , which played a real catalyst in the subsequent reaction. The composite system could instantly absorb 4.79 wt% H 2 in 100 s at 150 °C and rapidly release about 5.71 wt% H 2 in 500 s at 300 °C. The Kissinger plot revealed that the dehydrogenation activation energy dropped to 72.06 kJ/mol, which was significantly lower than that of as-milled MgH 2 . Moreover, after 50 isothermal cycles, the composite system still has an excellent capacity retention rate of 94.4 %. Compositional and structural analysis indicated that the in situ formation of TiO x and Mg 6 MnO 8 during dehydrogenation provided a multivalent multielement catalytic surrounding that accelerated the H atoms adsorption and dissociation, yielding a better kinetic property of MgH 2 .

Morphology Control Studies of MnTiO3 Nanostructures with Exposed {0001} Facets as a High-Performance Catalyst for Water Purification

Da Wang,Haodan Xu,Jun Ma,Xiaohui Lu,Jingyao Qi,Shuang Song

Novel single-crystal hexagonal MnTiO3 nanosheets with exposed {0001} facets have been synthesized via a simple one-pot hydrothermal method using NaOH as a mineralizer and tetraethylammonium hydroxide (TEAH) as a morphology controller. The intermediate morphologies of MnTiO3 nanostructures such as nanoparticles, nanowires, nanorods, and nanodiscs are trapped kinetically by adjusting the synthesis conditions. This approach enables us to elucidate the growth mechanisms of MnTiO3 nanosheets based on the tetraethylammonium cation adsorption abilities on different MnTiO3 crystal facets combined with density functional theory calculations. Dissolution and recrystallization processes are involved during the MnTiO3 crystallization. The surface-controlled MnTiO3 has been found to be effective as a catalyst for ozonation in the degradation of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP). Within typical experimental conditions (catalyst dosage = 0.3 g L–1, [4-CP]0 = 50 mg L–1, [O3] = 20 mg L–1, gas flow = 0.1 L min–1, pH 6.8, and T = 293 K), the total organic carbon (TOC) removal efficiency of 4-CP in catalytic ozonation with well-structured MnTiO3 (MnTiO3-180-10 sample) was 76.3% after 60 min, compared with only 22.1 and 38.5% TOC removal in the absence of catalyst and with uncontrolled MnTiO3 (MnTiO3-no TEAH sample), respectively. Benefiting from the high exposure percentage of {0001} facet, mixed-valences of manganese, surface hydroxyl groups, and the enrichment Lewis acid sites provided by Mn and Ti, the morphology-controlled MnTiO3 nanosheets can be applied as heterogeneous catalytic ozonation catalysts which exhibit excellent pollutant degradation. We anticipate that MnTiO3 can be a promising candidate material for the application in remediation of organic pollutants in water.

MnTiO3-driven low-temperature oxidative coupling of methane over TiO2-doped Mn2O3-Na2WO4/SiO2 catalyst

Pengwei Wang,Guofeng Zhao,Yu Wang,Yong Lu

Oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) is a promising method for the direct conversion of methane to ethene and ethane (C2 products). Among the catalysts reported previously, Mn2O3-Na2WO4/SiO2 showed the highest conversion and selectivity, but only at 800° to 900°C, which represents a substantial challenge for commercialization. We report a TiO2-doped Mn2O3-Na2WO4/SiO2 catalyst by using Ti-MWW zeolite as TiO2 dopant as well as SiO2 support, enabling OCM with 26% conversion and 76% C2-C3 selectivity at 720°C because of MnTiO3 formation. MnTiO3 triggers the low-temperature Mn2+↔Mn3+ cycle for O2 activation while working synergistically with Na2WO4 to selectively convert methane to C2-C3. We also prepared a practical Mn2O3-TiO2-Na2WO4/SiO2 catalyst in a ball mill. This catalyst can be transformed in situ into MnTiO3-Na2WO4/SiO2, yielding 22% conversion and 62% selectivity at 650°C. Our results will stimulate attempts to understand more fully the chemistry of MnTiO3-governed low-temperature activity, which might lead to commercial exploitation of a low-temperature OCM process.

MnTiO3 catalytic ceramic membrane built and enhance PMS oxidation capacity: Experimental and theoretical calculation

Guangxu Zhang,Jin Wang,Mengmeng Dou,Wubin Wang,Chao Han,Yadong Hu,Xinyu Li,Kaibo Wang,Yaxuan Liu,Yuting Ma,Xin Zhang

MnTiO 3 catalytic ceramic membrane (MTPCM) is prepared by impregnation- drawing- sintering method. • 1 O 2 has the highest contribution to BPA removal in MTPCM activation PMS system. • The formation pathway of 1 O 2 is explored by density functional theory. • Reveal the combination of active site density and spatial limitation to catalysis. While ceramic ultrafiltration membranes are highly valued in wastewater treatment for their exceptional durability and robust resistance to harsh conditions, their application is often hindered by an inability to efficiently degrade emerging pollutants. To address this, we fabricated a novel MnTiO 3 -modified catalytic ceramic membrane (MTPCM) via a facile solid-phase impregnation-drawing-sintering process. The optimized MTPCM 3 , tightened 30 nm pore size, demonstrates a remarkable capacity to generate high concentrations of reactive oxygen species (ROS) while intensifying pollutant-ROS collisions. Evaluated using bisphenol A (BPA) as a model pollutant and peroxymonosulfate (PMS) as the oxidant, the integrated system achieved an outstanding 95.2% degradation efficiency within 30 min, maintaining robust stability across eight operational cycles. Furthermore, intermediate and toxicity assessments delineated the degradation pathways and confirmed detoxification. Mechanistically, radical quenching experiments coupled with density functional theory (DFT) calculations identified 1 O 2 as the dominant ROS, systematically elucidating its generation pathway. Crucially, finite element simulations confirmed that this superior catalytic performance stems from the synergistic interplay between high-density MnTiO 3 active sites and a pronounced nanoscale confinement effect. Overall, MTPCM offers a simple, scalable, and highly reusable paradigm for advanced wastewater treatment, innovatively structuralizing pores to maximize ROS yield and accelerate interfacial reactions for highly efficient pollutant decontamination. Significant role of intermittent PMS backwash in mitigating irreversible fouling in MnTiO3 catalytic ceramic membranes

Guangxu Zhang,Jin Wang,Wubin Wang,Yadong Hu,Mengmeng Dou,Chao Han,Xinyu Li,Kaibo Wang,Yaxuan Liu,Yuting Ma

MnTiO 3 catalytic ceramic membrane (MTPCM) is prepared via solid particle impregnation- drawing- sintering method. • MTPCM 3 exhibits high BSA rejection primarily through dynamic cake layer formation and pore constriction. • Intermittent PMS backwash reduces chemical consumption while mitigating irreversible fouling. • MTPCM exhibits stable filtration performance over multi-cycle operation with PMS backwash. Ultrafiltration membrane's irreversible fouling-induced pore blockage and gel layer frequently reduce membrane lifespan. Peroxymonosulfate (PMS) can generate free radicals under appropriate catalysts, offering a promising strategy for membrane fouling control. This study developed a MnTiO 3 -modified catalytic ceramic ultrafiltration membrane (MTPCM) via an impregnation-drawing-sintering process. MTPCM achieved a BSA rejection >92%, attributed to dynamic cake layer formation and fouling-induced pore constriction. Higher membrane pressure, greater pollutant concentration, and longer filtration duration enhanced BSA removal by accelerating filter cake layer formation. Under optimized PMS backwash conditions (1 bar, 30 min, pH 7), the cleaning efficiency reached ∼60% after five cycles, approximately 2.3 times higher than that of water backwash (∼26%). Furthermore, an intermittent backwash strategy (four water backwashes followed by one PMS backwash) was evaluated: the MTPCM maintained ∼50% of its initial flux after 15 h of operation (three cycles), demonstrating stable multi-cycle performance with reduced PMS consumption. Hermia membrane fouling model analysis suggests that PMS backwash plays an important role in reducing irreversible fouling and may contribute to maintaining membrane performance during cyclic operation.

A ternary MnO/MnTiO3@C composite anode with greatly enhanced cycle stability for Li-ion batteries

Shuangze Yang,Zhimin Zou,Chunhai Jiang

Manganese monoxide (MnO) has been widely studied as a potential anode material of Li-ion batteries because of its high specific capacity and abundant raw materials. However, the poor cycling stability of MnO associating to its large volume change during the repeated conversion reaction with Li + has restricted its practical applications. Herein, ternary MnO/MnTiO 3 @C composite anode materials are prepared by in situ capturing TiO 2 nanoparticles into sea urchin-like MnO 2 in a mild hydrothermal reaction , followed by resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) resin coating and thermal treatment. With the strong stabilization effect of the MnTiO 3 component, the optimized ternary MnO/MnTiO 3 @C composite anode exhibits greatly enhanced cycling performance as compared to MnO@C. A reversible capacity of 383 mAh g −1 is preserved after 500 cycles at 1000 mA g −1 . This improved cycle performance can be originated from the stable TiO crystals and the highly reversible amorphous Li x MnTiO 3 phase generated in the first lithiation process. The reasonably high specific capacity and robust cycle stability enable the ternary MnO/MnTiO 3 @C composites to be promising alternative anode materials to graphite for Li-ion batteries.

Facilitating calcium sulfite oxidation during flue-gas desulfurization for efficient sulfur utilization using a robust MnTiO3 perovskite

Tieyue Qi,Jingzhao Zhang,Tong Li,Shanlong An,Qiangwei Li,Lidong Wang

Accelerating the oxidation of calcium sulfite is extremely crucial for the limestone/gypsum method of flue-gas desulfurization by enhancing the desulfurization efficiency, preventing subsequent SO 2 release, and generating pure calcium sulfate as a value-added product for downstream utilization. In this work, MnTiO 3 perovskite nanodisks with high crystallinity and good thermal stability were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The highly stabled exposed 001 facets of the MnTiO 3 catalyst give rise to its catalytic reactivity which promote the electron transfer in sulfite oxidation process thus effectively generated reactive oxygen species ( O 2 − , OH, and SO 4 − ) to accelerate the sulfite oxidation cycle. Compared with non-catalytic oxidation reactions, the calcium sulfite oxidation rate and calcium sulfate yield were increased by 4.3 times and 34.02% by using MnTiO 3 , respectively. After four cycles, the calcium sulfite oxidation rate was only 9.57% lower than that in the first cycle, and Mn leaching was minimal. To simulate actual usage scenarios, the extrusion method was employed to prepare a molded catalyst for facile separation from the desulfurization slurry, which revealed acceptable performance at a dosage of 10 g·L −1 . The proposed MnTiO 3 perovskite catalyst is non-toxic, cost-effective, convenient to synthesize, and recyclable, providing new possibilities for sulfur reclamation during flue-gas desulfurization.
