Preparation of high stability hierarchical bimetallic Ni-Mo catalysts for CO2 reforming with methane

Xirui Yan,Haixia Liang,Ruicong Wang,Da Li,Jun Li,Wencai Peng,Jinli Zhang

CO 2 reforming with methane (DRM) is a potential effective carbon neutralization strategy to convert greenhouse gases into syngas. The key to the DRM process is to design active and coking resistant catalysts. Herein, hollow hierarchical bimetallic NiMo-HMgO catalysts were prepared via hydrothermal-impregnation method. The prepared NiMo-HMgO catalysts exhibited higher catalytic performance during the DRM process than commercial NiMo-CMgO catalysts, due to the formation of Ni-Mo-MgO composite on hierarchical MgO (HMgO), which is promoted by exposed (111) polar surface of HMgO with alternate arrangement of anion and cation layers. The deposited carbon and stability can be effectively regulated by adjusting the amount of Ni and the molar ratio of Mo/(Ni+Mo). The synergistic effect of metal and HMgO can provide reference for the research in other related fields.

Effect of Different Al2O3 Supports on the Synthesis of Tetralin by Selective Catalytic Hydrogenation of Naphthalene

Su Xiao-Ping,Zhao Le,Wang Xiang-Tong,Wang Zhao,Wang Zhi-Chao,Shen Tao,Zhang Ping

Different Al2O3 carriers were synthesized by co-precipitation and sol-gel method. From them, 4%NiO-20%MoO3/Al2O3 catalysts were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), N2 adsorption-desorption, NH3 temperature programmed desorption (TPD) and H2-temperature programmed reduction (TPR) and subsequently used for selective hydrogenation of naphthalene to high-value tetralin. The results showed that Ni-Mo/so-ge Al2O3 (900) exhibited better catalytic performance than Ni Mo/commercial Al2O3, achieving 99.56% naphthalene conversion and 99.43% tetralin selectivity.

Electrochemical Synthesis of a Ni–W–P/Mo Electrode for Highly Efficient and Stable Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Qingxiang Kong,Yulei Li,Hang Ma,Qin Zhao,Linjing Yang,Ruidong Xu,Hong Guo

Hydrogen energy as a new type of clean energy has been widely used. Electrolysis is a highly effective method of producing hydrogen from water. Catalysts with low development costs and high efficiency are the focus of current research. A novel Ni–W–P/Mo catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) was synthesized by electrodeposition based on a molybdenum mesh. The experimental results show that when the current density is 10 mA/cm2, the best overpotential of Ni–W–P/Mo in alkaline medium is 75 mV. Not only that, the Tafel slope (77 mV/dec) also proves its excellent dynamic performance. In addition, the 60 h stability test at a current density of 10 mA/cm2 indicates an excellent long-term stability performance. Compared with the catalysts reported in recent years, the HER performance of Ni–W–P/Mo is much better than that of most nonprecious metal catalysts. The uniform and regular molybdenum network provides a large area of support for the catalyst, which is conducive to the synthesis and reaction of the catalyst. By doping W, the electronic structure of the catalyst is regulated, and the water decomposition is promoted. The stability of the morphology is also an important factor in improving the activity of the catalyst. The amorphous catalyst synthesized by the electrodeposition method in this work provides a new idea for the research of catalytic materials for hydrogen production by electrolysis of water and has important significance for promoting the development of a hydrogen energy economy.

Co-deposition of nanocrystalline Co–Mo catalysts with a new fluffy microstructure for hydrogen evolution reaction based on N, N-dimethylformamide and ethylene glycol system

Xinkuai He,Zhousi Hu,Jingjing Yang,Ruqing Guo,Luye Wu

The co-deposition behavior of Co(II) and Mo(VI) in N,N-dimethylformamide and ethylene glycol system is observed. The result implies that Co–Mo co-deposition is typical induced deposition, while containing ordinary deposition process . Mo(VI) species in the system can suppress the reduction of Co(II) and its effect can be improved as the increase of Mo(VI) concentration, however, Co(II) species can promote the reduction of Mo(VI) and the effect can also be improved as the increase of Co(II) concentration. SEM micrographs indicate that all these films exhibit a fibrous surface morphology with a new fluffy microstructure. XRD pattern reveals that the Co–Mo film is a Mo solid solution in Co and its average size of crystalline grain is 9.5 nm. In addition, the electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) on these Co–Mo films is investigated. These results indicate that its electrocatalytic activity can be improved as Mo content increases from 1.02 to 2.84 wt% and the prepared Co–Mo film with 2.84 wt% Mo presents a high electrocatalytic activity and stability for HER with an overpotential of 81 mV at 10 mA cm −2 .

Synthesis of unsupported Co-Mo hydrodesulfurization catalysts with ethanol-water mixed solvent: Effects of the ethanol/water ratio on active phase composition, morphology and activity

Guangci Li,Yanpeng Li,Guannan Lin,Da Wang,Peng Guo,Xuebing Li,Keng H. Chung

Co-Mo sulfide catalysts with different particle size and structures were prepared in ethanol-water mixed solvent followed by a low-temperature sulfurization process, and were tested in dibenzothiophene hydrodesulfurization . The effects of the ethanol/water ratio on the particle size of precursors, active phase composition, active site number, morphology, and hydrodesulfurization activity of the final catalysts were investigated. The atomic ratio of Co/Mo and active phase morphology of catalysts closely relate to the dielectric constant of ethanol-water mixed solvent. Appropriate dielectric constant favors the formation of (Co)MoS 2 slabs with shorter length (∼ 5.0 nm) and higher stacking number (∼ 4.3 layers), resulting in more coordinatively unsaturated sites, especially in the corner sites. The catalytic activity not only depends on the active sites of CoMoS phase, but also on that of Co 9 S 8 and MoS 2 phases because of synergistic effect. For MoS 2 and CoMoS phases, the corner sites show higher direct desulfurization activity than the edge sites.

Impacts of support properties on the vacuum residue slurry-phase hydrocracking performance of Mo catalysts

Wei-Wei Feng,Ye-Gui Qian,Ting-Hai Wang,Qing-Yan Cui,Yuan-Yuan Yue,Pei Yuan,Xiao-Jun Bao

To deeply understand the effects of support properties on the performance of Mo-based slurry-phase hydrocracking catalysts, four Mo-based catalysts supported on amorphous silica alumina ( ASA ), γ -Al 2 O 3 , ultra-stable Y (USY) zeolite and SiO 2 were prepared by the incipient wetness impregnation method, respectively, and their catalytic performances were compared in the vacuum residue (VR) hydrocracking process. It is found that the Mo/ASA catalyst exhibits the highest VR conversion among the different catalysts, indicating that both the appropriate amount of acid sites, especially B acid sites and larger mesoporous volume of ASA can enhance the VR hydrocracking into light distillates. Furthermore, Mo catalysts supported on the different supports show quite different product distributions in VR hydrocracking. The Mo/ASA catalyst provides higher yields of naphtha and middle distillates and lower yields of gas and coke compared with other catalysts, it is attributed to the highest MoS 2 slab dispersion, the highest sulfuration degree of Mo species, and the most Mo atoms located at the edge sites for the Mo/ASA catalyst, as observed by HRTEM and XPS analyses. These features of Mo/ASA are beneficial for the hydrogenation of intermediate products and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons to restrict the gas and coke formation.

Bifunctional Pt–Mo catalyst for in situ hydrogenation of methyl stearate into alkanes using formic acid as a hydrogen donor

Wei Yang,Kejing Wu,Yingming Zhu,Yingying Liu,Houfang Lu,Bin Liang

Biofuels have generated considerable interest as a direct substituent for fossil fuels due to the energy crisis and greenhouse effect. In this article, bifunctional Pt–Mo catalyst supported on activated carbon (AC) was fabricated for in situ hydrogenation of methyl stearate to alkanes using small amounts of formic acid (FA) as a hydrogen source. A total yield of 75.3% is obtained under 290 °C for 2 h with a small FA/methyl stearate mole ratio of 3.9. Prolonging the reaction time to 6 h results in a total yield of 100%. The experimental and characterization results indicate that the strong interaction of β-Mo2C and Pt over Pt–Mo/AC catalysts give rise to excellent catalytic performance and that Pt active sites are responsible for FA dehydrogenation and decarbonylation of methyl stearate to heptadecane and Pt-doped β-Mo2C active sites catalyzing hydrodeoxygenation of methyl stearate to octadenane. This catalyst is stable during three recycles and is versatile for various feedstocks.
