Real-time monitoring of triethylamine (TEA) is critical to environmental safety and daily life. However, detailed challenges remain for TEA gas sensors, such as low-cost and facile synthetic methods, and low working temperatures. In this study, a combination of hydrothermal and wet chemical approaches is utilized for the rational construction of α -MoO 3 @WO 3 with a sheet-like nanostructure. Additionally, the sensing performances towards triethylamine are investigated. According to the results, it was found that the α -MoO 3 @WO 3 sensor has a higher response value (80.4) and faster response and recovery times (9/26 s) than those of pristine MoO 3 at low optimum temperature (200 °C). Again, the α -MoO 3 @WO 3 based sensor also demonstrated high selectivity to TEA as well as good stability. The enhancement of the MoO 3 @WO 3 sensor's gas-sensitive mechanism may be attributed to the formation of n-n heterojunction between MoO 3 and WO 3 and the synergistic effect of both.

The low sustainable current density in darkness restricts the advancement of photocathodic protection (PCP) for steels in marine environments. A combination of MoO 3 /WO 3 (Mo/WO 3 ) was proposed as an electron storage system to enhance capacitance and charge/discharge rates. Subsequently, incorporating ZnIn 2 S 4 (ZIS) extended light harvesting and improved photocarrier separation efficiency, resulting in efficient round-the-clock PCP performance. Under illumination, the open circuit potential (OCP) of 10Mo/WO 3 @ZIS coupled with 304SS reaches −0.97 V vs. Ag/AgCl, approximately 600 mV and 140 mV more negative than corrosion potential (E corr ) of 304SS and WO 3 @ZIS coupled 304SS, whth photocurrent density of 134 μA/cm 2 . The excellent PCP performance is attributed to superior photocarrier separation and enhanced light-harvesting capability. Notably, in the dark, the OCP of the coupled system remains ca . 0.4 V below the E corr of 304SS, with an average current density of 30 μA/cm 2 , demonstrating the regulated electron storage capabilities of Mo/WO 3 . Furthermore, capacity and charge/discharge rates correlate with Mo/W ratio and electrolyte species. 10Mo/WO 3 @ZIS exhibits a charge capacity of 2.93 mC, nearly 3 times higher than that of WO 3 @ZIS. The innovative application of MoO 3 and WO 3 proves the potential to regulate the electron storage performance, revealing the factors for photoelectron storage/release.
