Graphical Photocatalysts enhance the ability to absorb low-energy photons due to the reduction of the band gap. Through the photocatalytic mechanism, it is known that when there is irradiation with light (hv) energy entering Mg 2+ -Mo 6+ -Al 3+ -MoO 4 2− -Layered double hydroxides (LDHs), highly active hole-electron pairs will be generated, and a large amount of ⋅OH will be generated after the reaction, which can completely oxidize the phenol in water into CO 2 and H 2 O. Mg 2+ -Mo 6+ -Al 3+ -MoO 4 2− -Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) materials were successfully prepared via a hydrothermal method by doping Mo 6+ in hydroxide laminates and inserting MoO 4 2− to replace the interlayer anions of LDHs materials. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIRS) and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer (UV). The electronic density of states was calculated using the density functional theory (DFT) of Vienna Ab-initio Simulation Package (VASP). The effects of Mo 6+ and MoO 4 2− on the structure, morphology, electronic structure and photocatalytic performance of Mg 2+ -Al 3+ -LDHs were systematically studied. The conditions for phenol degradation by Mg 2+ -Mo 6+ -Al 3+ -MoO 4 2− -LDHs were optimized by single factor analysis and response surface methodology. The results show that the MoO 4 2− anion reduces the band gap width and thus enhances the absorption of low-energy photons. The interaction between cations and anions enhances the photocatalytic performance. When the dosage of Mg 2+ -Mo 6+ -Al 3+ -MoO 4 2− -LDHs was 0.03 g, the temperature was 40 °C and the visible light irradiation was 15 min, the removal rate of phenol reached 94.76 %.

The nanocomposite corrosion inhibitor with MoO 4 2− intercalated ZnAl-LDH coating on the Fe 3 O 4 surface was synthesized by ion exchange methods. The morphology, structure and magnetic properties of the composite were characterized by transmission electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectra and vibrating sample magnetometer . The release behavior of MoO 4 2− and corrosion inhibition of the sample under “NO MF” (without external magnetic field) and “MF ON” modes (under external magnetic field) were measured by UV–vis spectroscopy, electrochemical tests and scanning electron microscopy. Calcination the composite after release test and redispersing the sintered products in Na 2 MoO 4 solution, the composite was regenerated. The results show that the superparamagnetic nanocomposite inhibitor Fe 3 O 4 @MoO 4 -LDH presents well-defined core-shell structure. The release test revealed that for “NO MF” mode the release of MoO 4 2− from Fe 3 O 4 @MoO 4 -LDH displayed smaller t 0.5 (Time to reach half release equilibrium) of 4.25min and shorter time (3 h) to reach equilibrium with high release amount of 71.95% for 0.5 g/L nanocomposite. Under “MF ON” mode the release rate is slower with longer t 0.5 (from 26.40min to 1.60 h for 0.5 g/L to 4.0 g/L nanocomposite, respectively), thus realizing sustained release up to 12 h. At the same time, the release amount decreases and the release time prolongs with the concentration increasing. Correspondingly, the MoO 4 2− has a long-term excellent corrosion inhibition effect over 71.96% at 24 h on Q235 steel. For “NO MF”, the release route mainly contains the interlayer intraparticle diffusion between the LDH layers and interparticle diffusion among the outer LDH. While for “MF ON” mode, the diffusion between magnetic particles of corrosion inhibitor becomes important. The reconstructed inhibitor still maintains excellent superparamagnetic properties and high corrosion inhibition efficiency, up to 64.84% after five cycles.

Lanthanide-doped fluorapatite (FAp:Ln3+) upconversion luminescence (UCL) probes exhibit good biocompatibility but suffer from low quantum yields under near-infrared (NIR) excitation. Here, we propose a universal MoO42− doping strategy that achieves 74-fold green UCL enhancement in FAp:Yb/Er/Mo (FYEM) under 980 nm excitation (quantum yield: 0.004% at 50 W cm−2). Remarkably, stable Ln3+/MoO42− dimers induce 4d–4f orbital hybridization, as validated by density functional theory (DFT) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). This mechanism extends to self-sensitized systems: FAp:Er/Mo (FEM) achieves 156-fold UCL enhancement under 980 nm excitation, while FAp:Nd/Mo (FNM) integrates 84-fold UCL amplification with photothermal synergy (ΔT = 53.5 °C). Critically, the optimized FYEM material enables dual-mode imaging, with 808/980 nm excitation UCL and NIR-II downconversion luminescence for deep-tissue imaging, besides outstanding thermal sensitivity (SA = 1.04% K−1@323 K). This work establishes a biocompatible, multi-wavelength platform for deep-tissue diagnostics, photothermal therapy, and multimodal sensing and imaging.

Transition metal-based precatalysts are typically voltage-activated before electrochemical testing in the condition of alkaline oxygen evolution reaction . Nevertheless, the impact of voltage on the catalyst and the anion dissolution is frequently disregarded. In this study, Fe-doped NiMoO 4 (Fe-NiMoO 4 ) was synthesized as a precursor through a straightforward hydrothermal method , and MoFe-modified Ni (oxygen) hydroxide (MoFe-NiO x H y ) was obtained via cyclic voltammetry (CV) activation. The effects of voltage on Fe-NiMoO 4 and the dissolved inactive MoO 4 2− ions in the process were examined in relation to OER performance. It has demonstrated that the crystallinity of the catalyst is reduced by voltage, thereby enhancing its electrocatalytic activity . The electron distribution state can be adjusted during the application of voltage, leading to the generation of additional active sites and an acceleration in the reaction rate. Additionally, MoO 4 2− exhibits potential dependence during its dissolution. In the OER process, the dissolution of MoO 4 2− enhances the reconstruction degree of Fe-NiMoO 4 into the active substance and expedites the formation of active Ni(Fe)OOH. Hence, the optimized MoFe-NiO x H y exhibited exceptional electrocatalytic performance, with a current density of 100 mA cm −2 achieved at an overpotential of only 256 mV. This discovery contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of alkaline OER performance under the influence of applied voltage and the presence of inactive oxygen ions , offering a promising avenue for the development of efficient electrocatalysts .

Amoxicillin is used as a precursor to rapidly prepare amoxicillin carbon nanodots (AMO-CDs) via microwave method. The AMO-CDs exhibit high fluorescence recognition and quickly quantitative detection properties for molybdate (MoO 4 2− ), through the rapid coordination, obtain the amoxicillin-molybdenum complex system (AMO-CDs@Mo). The fluorescence intensity of the AMO-CDs@Mo is ∼14.7 times than that of the AMO-CDs. The detection range is from ∼10 to 100 μmol/L and the detection limit is ∼4.8 μmol/L. Based on the similar coordination manner of catecholamines and MoO 4 2− , the AMO-CDs@Mo composite solution (mixture of AMO-CDs and MoO 4 2− ) initially detects MoO 4 2− and then shows a good fluorescence linear response to catecholamines (detection range ∼40–480 μg/mL and detection limit ∼9.4 μg/mL), demonstrating a sequential detection process. In simulated urine detection experiment, the fluorescent intensity of the AMO-CDs@Mo composite solution shows a sensitive linear response to different catecholamine concentrations (detection range ∼40–480 μg/mL with detection limit of ∼10.6 μg/mL), with good anti-interference to the other main substances of urine. This study provides new insights into the development of multifunctional fluorescence sensing platforms, enabling precise analysis of multiple targets.

The development of electrocatalysts that combine high activity with robust resistance to chlorine-induced corrosion remains a critical challenge for seawater electrocatalysis. Herein, we report a Mo-doped Ni3S2 (Mo-Ni3S2) bifunctional electrocatalyst grown in situ on nickel foam via a one-step hydrothermal method. In simulated seawater (1.0 M NaOH + 0.5 M NaCl), the optimal Mo-Ni3S2-50 catalyst exhibits exceptional bifunctional activity, requiring overpotentials of only 290 mV for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and 175 mV for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) to reach the current density of ±100 mA cm–2. More importantly, in situ characterizations reveal a dynamic equilibrium between Mo dopant dissolution and readsorption of molybdate species (MoO42–) during operation. This self-adaptive process not only enhances the OER activity by optimizing the reaction kinetics but also forms a chloride-repelling protective layer, endowing the catalyst with remarkable corrosion resistance and long-term stability (>300 h for OER at 100 mA cm–2). When assembled in an anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer (AEMWE), the Mo-Ni3S2-50∥Mo-Ni3S2-50 couple delivers excellent overall water splitting performance, requiring 1.7 V at 100 mA cm–2 and maintaining stable operation for over 165 h. This work elucidates a self-adaptive protection mechanism induced by Mo doping, offering a promising strategy for designing efficient and durable catalysts for practical seawater electrolysis and large-scale green hydrogen production.

Exploring high-efficiency electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is one of the most important concerns to produce hydrogen in water electrolysis. Herein, the FNM/Co 2 P-0.4 heterostructure was designed as an electrocatalyst for the OER process by the combination of MoO 4 2− intercalating NiFe LDH and Co 2 P on nickel foam (NF). The surface reconstruction and MoO 4 2− leaching can induce the conversion of Co 2 P and NiFe LDH on FNM/Co 2 P-0.4 to generate Co/NiOOH with more oxygen vacancies. Beyond, CoOOH and NiOOH can also synergize to reduce the energy barrier of OER, optimize conductivity, and improve stability. The surface reconstruction and the formation of OOH ⁎ were further unveiled by in-situ UV–vis absorption spectra and Fourier-transformed alternative current voltammetry ( FTACV). The integration of interfacial synergies and oxygen vacancies can facilitate the adsorption/desorption of intermediates, regulate the d-band center, and expose more active sites. And as a result, FNM/Co 2 P-0.4 shows a significant low overpotential (240 mV) at 50 mA cm −2 , a small Tafel (74 mV dec −1 ), low activation energy ( E a ) and remarkable durability. This work provides a new pathway to improve the OER performance by using interfacial synergies and rich oxygen vacancies derived from the self-sacrificial reconstruction of heterostructured electrocatalysts.
