Fe-pCOFs/MoS2-MWCNTs nanocomposite with enzyme-like activity for efficient electrochemical detection of hydrogen peroxide from living cells

Haiyan Zhao,Yi Zhou,Shanshan Li,Kemei Shi,Na Li,Min Cui,Cong Zhang

Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) is an important reactive oxygen species, and its abnormal concentration can cause cell distortion and apoptosis, leading to occurrence of various diseases. Therefore, real-time and sensitive monitoring of H 2 O 2 is essential for early disease diagnosis and pathological research. Herein, a novel nanocomposite of Fe-porphyrin covalent organic frameworks decorated with molybdenum disulfide and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Fe-pCOFs/MoS 2 -MWCNTs), which had glorious enzyme-like activity, was reported for efficient electrochemical detection of H 2 O 2 . The prepared Fe-pCOFs nanosheets with a large specific surface area and fully dispersed Fe 2+ active sites, could enhance mass transfer and atomic utilization, thereby contributing to excellent catalytic efficiency toward H 2 O 2 . The flower-like MoS 2 nanoflakes not only could catalyze the reduction reaction of H 2 O 2 , but also could serve as co-catalyst and form a catalytic cycle with Fe 2+ of Fe-pCOFs, contributing the continuous emergence of catalytic active sites. The highly conductive MWCNTs was employed to promote electron transfer rate. Ultimately, the obtained Fe-pCOFs/MoS 2 -MWCNTs exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity and conductivity, significantly amplifying the H 2 O 2 response signal. Under the optimal conditions, the sensor had a wide detection range from 20 to 2650 μΜ for H 2 O 2 with a detection limit as low as 2.2 μΜ. Moreover, the sensor successfully recorded trace amounts of H 2 O 2 released from RAW264.7 cells, showing promising application for real-time and sensitive monitoring of H 2 O 2 in clinic or pathological research.

Xiaoyu Zhu,Peng Liu,Yu Ge,Ruimei Wu,Ting Xue,Yingying Sheng,Shirong Ai,Kaijie Tang,Yangping Wen

Electrochemical nanozyme sensor coupled with machine learning (ML) for intelligent analysis of carbendazim (CBZ) residues in tea and rice samples using graphene-like molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 )/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) porous nanohybrid network with oxidase-like characteristic was developed. MoS 2 /MWCNTs porous nanohybrid network was prepared by ultrasonic dispersion of MWCNTs into MoS 2 aqueous dispersion that was obtained by ultrasonic-assisted dispersion in sodium carboxymethyl cellulose water solution, which displayed low electron transfer resistance, high effective surface area, excellent film electrode stability. Machine learning via the artificial neural network for the intelligent analysis of CBZ was discussed in comparison with traditional regression analysis. Good electrocatalytic capacity, unique oxidase-like characteristic, wide linear range with 0.04–100 μM, low limit of detection with 7.4 nM, high sensitivity, and satisfactory practicability for CBZ demonstrated that electrochemical nanozyme sensor for the intelligent analysis of CBZ residues in edible agro-products was feasible. This will provide a new electrochemical sensing platform for the development of a graphene-like nanozyme sensor and its intelligent analysis of CBZ in food and agro-product safety.

MoS2@MWCNTs with Rich Vacancy Defects for Effective Piezocatalytic Degradation of Norfloxacin via Innergenerated-H2O2: Enhanced Nonradical Pathway and Synergistic Mechanism with Radical Pathway

Xueyao Wang,Xuyang Hu,Zhengjun Qu,Ting Sun,Lihui Huang,Shimin Xu

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)-based materials for piezocatalysis are unsatisfactory due to their low actual piezoelectric coefficient and poor electrical conductivity. Herein, 1T/3R phase MoS2 grown in situ on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was proposed. MoS2@MWCNTs exhibited the interwoven morphology of thin nanoflowers and tubes, and the piezoelectric response of MoS2@MWCNTs was 4.07 times higher than that of MoS2 via piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) characterization. MoS2@MWCNTs exhibited superior activity with a 91% degradation rate of norfloxacin (NOR) after actually working 24 min (as for rhodamine B, reached 100% within 18 min) by pulse-mode ultrasonic vibration-triggered piezocatalysis. It was found that piezocatalysis for removing pollutants was attributed to the synergistic effect of free radicals (•OH and O2•–) and nonfree radical (1O2, key role) pathways, together with the innergenerated-H2O2 promoting the degradation rate. 1O2 can be generated by electron transfer and energy transfer pathways. The presence of oxygen vacancies (OVs) induced the transformation of O2 to 1O2 by triplet energy transfer. The fast charge transfer in MoS2@MWCNTs heterostructure and the coexistence of sulfur vacancies and OVs enhanced charge carrier separation resulting in a prominent piezoelectric effect. This work opens up new avenues for the development of efficient piezocatalysts that can be utilized for environmental purification.

Ultrasensitive detection of nanomolar valacyclovir based on MoS2/MWCNTs-COOH/GCE sensing platform

Na Liu,Youwei Jiang,Quanguo He,Tao Zhang,Yao Ping,Yelong Jiang,Wu Wang,Qijun Xie,Jianhua Ding

As an oral prodrug, valacyclovir undergoes rapid in vivo hydrolysis to form acyclovir - an agent with antiviral properties. This compound is extensively employed in addressing herpes virus infections and various other related conditions. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop a method for detecting the content of valacyclovir in drugs. In this study, molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) and carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) were ultrasonically dispersed to prepare a suspension, which was drop-coated on the surface of a pretreated glassy carbon electrode (GCE). A MoS 2 /MWCNTs-COOH/GCE sensing platform was successfully constructed for the ultrasensitive detection of valacyclovir. Under optimized conditions, cyclic voltammetry (CV) was used to detect valacyclovir. A strong linear correlation between the oxidation peak current and the concentration was observed within the range of 0.1–40.0 μM, with a detection limit (LOD) of 0.013 μM. Meanwhile, the sensing platform also demonstrated excellent anti-interference capability, stability, and reproducibility. In the analysis of real samples, satisfactory recoveries for valacyclovir (96.5–104.0%) were achieved with a relative standard deviation (RSD) below 5.0%, further confirming its reliability. In summary, the developed MoS 2 /MWCNTs-COOH/GCE sensor offers a promising approach for the highly sensitive detection of valacyclovir.

Simultaneous detection of lead and cadmium based on N-doped MoS2/MWCNTs nanocomposites

Zhang Hengchao,Li Yarou,Zhang Yupan,Wu Junfeng,Hu Jiandong,Li Shixin,Li Lanlan

Heavy metal pollution in the environment has posed a serious threat to human health and ecosystems. Therefore, it is urgent to develop a fast and effective sensing method for detecting heavy metal ions (HMIs). A simple and rapid ultrasonic mixing method was used to prepare nanocomposites consisting of cysteine, multi-walled carbon nanotubes, and nitrogen-doped molybdenum disulfide (L-Cys/MWCNTs/N-MoS 2 ). Fully combining the excellent features of 2D materials and carbon nanomaterials, the nanocomposites have been successfully used as sensor interface materials for the simultaneous detection of lead ions (Pb 2+ ) and cadmium ions (Cd 2+ ). The L-Cys/MWCNTs/N-MoS 2 @GCE sensor has a wide linear range for the detection of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ , with the detection limits as low as 0.67 nM and 5.3 nM, respectively. In addition, the sensor performs well in stability, reproducibility, and anti-interference performance. The L-Cys/MWCNTs/N-MoS 2 @GCE sensor can also be used for the detection of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ in tap water and lake water with good recovery (> 90%), which may provide a promising strategy for the simultaneous in situ and sensitive detection of heavy metal ions in the aqueous environment.

Zengqiang Gao,Yueyun Li,Xiaobo Zhang,Jinhui Feng,Ling Kong,Ping Wang,Zhiwei Chen,Yunhui Dong,Qin Wei

A sensitive sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor for the detection of hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) was successfully developed based on the gold@palladium nanoparticles (Au@Pd NPs) loaded by molybdenum disulfide functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (Au@Pd/MoS 2 @MWCNTs). The resultant nanocomposites not only possessed high specific surface area and good biocompatibility , but also exhibited excellent electro-catalytical property. Au NPs functionalized porous graphene oxide (p-GO@Au) were used as sensing platforms and primary antibodies carriers, which can accelerate the electron transfer and improve the load capacity of primary antibodies (Ab 1 ), improving the sensitivity of the immunosensor. Under optimal conditions, the designed immunosensor could detect target HBeAg concentration in the range from 0.1pg/mL to 500   pg/mL, with a low detection limit of 26   fg/mL (S/N = 3) for HBeAg. Additionally, the designed immunosensor showed excellent specificity, good reproducibility and acceptable stability. The satisfactory results in analysis of human serum samples indicated that it had potential application in clinical monitoring of tumor markers.

A self-floating bacterial cellulose supported MoS2@MWCNTs-OH evaporator with efficient salt resistance, antibacterial properties, and selective adsorption

Xiaohua Yang,Man Zhou,Yihang Tang,Jing Li,Lifu Zhou,Wentao Xu,Yao Xiao,Jin Zhao,Yuzhe Zhang,Zhongyu Li

Addressing global freshwater scarcity, solar-driven interfacial evaporation (SDIE) technology has garnered significant attention due to its sustainability and economic advantages. However, challenges including salt accumulation, substantial heat loss, and biofouling still persist when treating the water in nature. Herein, we developed a BM/BPMC Janus aerogel evaporator composed of a hydrophilic top layer and a hydrophobic bottom layer. This aerogel with a self-floating capability, reduced water evaporation enthalpy, enhanced anti-biofouling properties, salt resistance, and efficient thermal localization. Its hydrophilic top layer, fabricated by embedding MoS 2 @MWCNTs-OH within a bacterial cellulose (BC)/polyethyleneimine (PEI) matrix, exhibits synergistic photothermal-antibacterial functionality. The hydrophobic insulating bottom layer, constructed from silanized BC, achieves an ultralow thermal conductivity of 0.036 W·m −1 ·K −1 , enabling highly efficient thermal localization. Vertically aligned microchannels ensure rapid water supply and salt reflux. Synergistically, the positively charged surface of the hydrophilic layer also induces a Donnan effect, significantly enhancing system salt resistance. Furthermore, this cationic evaporator concurrently achieves highly selective adsorption of anionic dyes (>97.8 % removal for MO/CR). Hydroxyl/amino functional groups enriched within the hydrophilic layer markedly reduce evaporation enthalpy by lowering the activation energy of water molecules. Under 1 kW m −2 solar irradiation, the evaporator achieves a water evaporation rate of 2.78 kg·m −2 ·h −1 and an energy conversion efficiency of 113.2 %. This study presents a novel strategy for efficient desalination and synergistic contaminant removal in complex aqueous environments.

Target-Induced Electrochemical Sensor Based on Foldable Aptamer and MoS2@MWCNTs–PEI for Enhanced Detection of AFB1 in Peanuts

Xiaoya Meng,Maosheng Sang,Qi Guo,Zhongyu Li,Quanlong Zhou,Xia Sun,Wenping Zhao

Herein, a sensitive and selective electrochemical sensor based on aptamer folding was constructed to detect aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in peanuts. Specifically, polyethylenimine-functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes modified with molybdenum disulfide (MoS2@MWCNTs–PEI) were used as the electrode matrix to enable a large specific surface area, which were characterized by the Randles–Sevcik equation. Additionally, AuNPs were used to immobilize the aptamer via the Au–S covalent bond and provide a favorable microenvironment for signal enhancement. Methylene blue (MB) was modified at the proximal 3′ termini of the aptamer as the capture probe, while the signal transduction of the sensor was obtained through changes in conformation and position of MB induced by the binding between AFB1 and the probe. Changes in spatial conformation could be recorded by electrochemical methods more readily. This electrochemical aptasensor demonstrated remarkable sensitivity to AFB1 with an extensive detection range (1 pg/mL to 100 ng/mL) and a lower limit detection (1.0 × 10–3 ng/mL). Moreover, using the constructed aptasensor, AFB1 was identified successfully in peanut samples, with recoveries ranging from 95.83 to 107.53%, illustrating its potential use in determining AFB1 in food.
