Two-dimensional (2D) materials, particularly transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), have shown great potential in optoelectronics and energy storage due to their unique properties. However, defects such as impurities and voids can significantly impact their electronic, optical, and magnetic characteristics. Traditional defect detection methods, such as scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), are time-consuming and limited in scalability. This study introduces DeepMGD, a novel deep learning model designed for efficient and accurate defect detection in molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) films fabricated via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and imaged using optical microscopy. DeepMGD utilizes MobileNetV4 as its backbone, Gold-YOLO as the neck, and a decoupled head. The architecture attains a competitive mAP@50 of 0.894 under challenging illumination conditions while maintaining a lean parameter count of 5.129 million, achieving 122.2 FPS on a GPU and 3.0 FPS on a CPU. Additionally, we present the DeepMGD Agent, an intelligent system framework that integrates the DeepMGD model with a large language model (LLM) and a Python interpreter. This framework automates defect detection and analysis, offering an intuitive workflow for users. The system processes microscopic images and user commands to detect defects and generate natural language explanations, enabling seamless defect detection and quantitative analysis. This work provides a reliable and efficient approach for analyzing 2D materials, with potential applications for other similar materials in the future. Solitary waves are unique in nonlinear systems, but their formation and propagation in the nonlinear fluid-structure interactions have yet to be further explored. As a typical nonlinear system, the buckling of solid thin films is fundamentally related to the film-substrate interface that is further vulnerable to environments, especially when fluids exist. In this work, we report an anomalous, solitary-wave-like blister (SWLB) mode of MoS 2 thin films in a humid environment. Unlike the most common telephone-cord and web buckling deformation, the SWLB propagates forward like solitary waves that usually appear in fluids and exhibits three-dimensional expansions of the profiles during propagation. In situ mechanical, optical, and topology measurements verify the existence of an interfacial water nanolayer, which facilitates a delamination of films at the front side of the SWLB and a readhesion at the tail side owing to the water nanolayer-induced fluid-structure interaction. Furthermore, the expansion morphologies and process of the SWLB are predicted by our theoretical model based on the energy change of buckle propagation. Our work not only demonstrates the emerging SWLB mode in a solid material but also sheds light on the significance of interfacial water nanolayers to structural deformation and functional applications of thin films.

As an essential biomarker for diagnosing and treating various diseases, low-cost, quantitative detection methods for complementary DNA (cDNA) have received much attention. The surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensing technique is an effective measurement scheme, but the ambient temperature and pH variations have a non-negligible impact. In this work, we developed a triple-probe SPR sensing system for detecting cDNA concentration, temperature, and pH. In order to satisfy the triple parameter measurements, we used a microstructured optical fiber as the sensing platform, silver and gold films as the excitation layer, and a MoS 2 film as the modulation layer. First, we explore the modulation mechanism of SPR and the conditions for excitation of triple SPR and demonstrate that the carrier concentration is a crucial factor affecting the resonance wavelength. Then, the feasibility of the sensing system for triple-probing is theoretically analyzed. Finally, in the experiment, the optimal parameters of the sensor were determined, and the triple parameter detection was successfully realized. The experimental results show that the three probes can work independently, and the hybridized DNA probe can realize the selective detection of cDNA with a sensitivity of 0.249 nm/(nmol/l). The maximum sensitivity of the pH probe and the temperature probe are 51.5 nm/pH and 6.14 nm/°C. In addition, the experimental results show that the sensing probes have excellent reproducibility. This paper’s innovation is using the fiber optic SPR effect to achieve quantitative detection for cDNA, temperature detection, and pH detection. Therefore, the sensor has a promising future in early diagnosis and biosensing.

Ultrathin 1T@2H-MoS2 films have excellent electronic and optical properties, and are potentially applicable in optics, electronics, energy storage, and sensing technology. However, identification of an efficient method to produce 1T@2H-MoS2 films with controllable thickness is challenging. This study describes the rapid synthesis (5–10 min) of 1T@2H-MoS2 thin films on Si/SiO2 substrates by a novel pulsed laser irradiation method. We verify the photodecomposition reaction model by measuring the UV-Vis absorption spectra of the reactants. The thickness of the synthesized MoS2 film can be controlled by adjusting the concentration of the precursor. Structural characterization confirms that both the 1T and 2H phases exist in the MoS2 film. The 1T phase enhances the conductive behavior of the MoS2 film and induces magnetism. Furthermore, pure 1T-MoS2 can be separated selectively from the MoS2 film under specific operating conditions using pulsed laser-induced synthesis. This approach is suitable for the synthesis of films of MoS2 and other 2D materials, including 1T phase-pure films.

Electrochemical reduction and treatment of Cr(VI)-contaminated wastewater normally suffer from a high overpotential, due to the extravagant consumption of electrons by the adverse reactions of hydrogen evolution and oxygen reduction. In this work, the MoS 2 film electrode prepared by electrochemical deposition-annealing method was applied into the electrochemical reduction of Cr(VI), with the aim to suppress the over-potential of the reduction and improve the utilization of electrons. Results demonstrated that the 2H/1T′ heterostructure of MoS 2 enhanced the reduction efficiency of Cr(VI) up to 99% at a lower potential of −1.0 V vs. Ag/AgCl. The in-situ electrochemically generated hydrogen peroxide was found to play a critical role in accelerating the reduction of Cr(VI). Selective oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) via a two-electron pathway on the MoS 2 cathode was responsible for the formation of hydrogen peroxide, where the MoS 2 film electrode annealed at 700 °C can obtain a high productivity of 360 μM hydrogen peroxide within 60 min. The plenty of preserved interfaces between 2H and 1 T′ in the heterophase MoS 2 were crucial to the selective electrocatalytic activity. In addition, this electrode also presented an excellent electrocatalytic activity in hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), which could form atomic hydrogen on the surface of cathode to facilitate the reduction of Cr(VI) under the anoxic condition. This study paves a novel pathway to in-situ deposit the MoS 2 film electrode for the sustainable electrochemical reduction and treatment of Cr(VI)-containing wastewater.

Two-dimensional (2D) layered transitional metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) materials have been theoretically and experimentally proven to possess a good potential in thermoelectric (TE) energy harvesting. As a member of TMDCs, molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) was severely hindered by poor electrical conductivity for better TE performance. Herein, noble metal nanoparticles (NPs) was employed to optimize the electrical conductivity of MoS 2 films by spontaneous decoration. As a result, the electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient of MoS 2 films with a little Ag NPs load were simultaneously enhanced, which may result from the formation of more electrically conductive path and the stronger energy filtering effect generated by Ag NPs decoration. These results indicate that the conflict between thermoelectric factors can effectively resolve by spontaneous Ag NPs decoration. This technique may shed light on a new way for optimizing the TE energy harvesting efficiency for 2D TMDCs materials.
