Sensitive detection of monosultap using a BSA-Cu nanocluster-based turn-off-on fluorescent sensor

Siying Che,Gaoqiong Deng,Tingyong Ling,Haiyan Fu,Yuanbin She

Monosultap (Mon) poses significant environmental and human health risks due to its widespread and irregular use. However, due to the lack of intrinsic fluorophores and identifiable sites in monosultap, there were few fluorescence analytical methods achieved sensitive detection of monosultap. Hence, we present a BSA-Cu nanocluster-based turn-off-on fluorescent sensor for sensitive detection of monosultap. The sensor exhibits fluorescence quenching ("turn-off") in the presence of DTAB-CuTPyP. The competitive binding of monosultap with DTAB-CuTPyP switches the sensor to the "turn-on" state. Under optimized conditions, the sensor demonstrates a linear response to monosultap concentrations ranging from 0.33 × 10⁻ 2 to 3.33 × 10⁻ 2  mg/kg, with a detection limit of 0.098 mg/kg, which is below the permissible exposure limit (approximately 1 mg/kg). In addition, the co-existence of nine interference pesticides does not affect the sensor's ability to detect monosultap. This fluorescence restoration mechanism enables sensitive monosultap detection and provides a guide for detecting trace pesticides in food.

Effect of monosultap on notochord development in zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos

Xiaofang Che,Yong Huang,Tianzhu Shen,Keyuan Zhong,You Wei,Guoqiang Fan,Kun Jia,Wei Yuan,Huiqiang Lu

Monosultap (Mon) is a broad-spectrum insecticide used in agricultural production to control stem borers in rice fields . Currently, little evidence shows how Mon affects notochord development in zebrafish ( Danio rerio ). In our study, zebrafish embryos were exposed to 0.25, 0.5, and 0.75 mg/L Mon to determine the effects of different concentrations of Mon on notochord development. Mon exposure reduced the body length, decreased the heart rate and hatchability, and induced notochord deformity in zebrafish. The effects of Mon exposure on the internal organization of the notochord and the structural abnormalities were determined based on histological staining of paraffinized tissue sections. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and in situ hybridization findings revealed that the expression levels of genes related to notochord development ( shha, col2a, and ptch2 ) showed an increasing trend in a concentration-dependent manner. An abnormal increase of apoptosis and cell proliferation in some parts of the notochord suggested that Mon exposure could cause developmental abnormality of the notochord. This study revealed the toxicity of Mon in notochord development. Our findings provide information in assessing the risk of Mon to the ecological environment and human health.

Preparation of monosultap-polyurethane microcapsules in an inverse emulsion through interfacial polymerization

Rui Wang,Yao Xiao

In this study, we prepared monosultap microcapsules in an inverse emulsion through interfacial polymerization for the first time. The microcapsules are spherical pellets with intact and smooth shell and have a narrow particle size distribution with an average size of about 2.35 μm. More importantly, our microcapsules have excellent thermal stability with a starting decomposition temperature of 233.1 °C, high encapsulation efficiency of 81.9% as well as long-term slow release of monosultap under different conditions. In addition, the shell of the microcapsules can degrade completely in the natural condition, avoiding the pollution to the environment. It can be believed that our microcapsules will show good service performance if employed in agricultural industry. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2020 , 137 , 48594.

Synergistic recognition SERS sensor of MgO-protected AgNPs functionalized with tryptophan and β-cyclodextrin for trace monosultap analysis

Xin Liu,Shiyue Niu,Liqian Niu,Xian Wang,Xinxin Liu,Xin Guan,Xinyu Fan,Shuyun Bi

A highly sensitive surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) approach was established for the detection of monosultap using the nanosubstrate of β -CD/Trp/MgO/AgNPs which was MgO-protected silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) assembled tryptophan (Trp) and β -cyclodextrin ( β -CD). Six nanosubstrates including AgNPs, MgO/AgNPs, Trp/AgNPs, β -CD/MgO/AgNPs, Trp/MgO/AgNPs and β -CD/Trp/MgO/AgNPs were compared for their enhancement effect on monosultap. Among them, β -CD/Trp/MgO/AgNPs had the greatest enhancement effect, with an enhancement factor (EF) reaching up to 1.95 × 10 6 . The nanosubstrate of β -CD/Trp/MgO/AgNPs was characterized by various instrumental techniques, such as transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM), zeta potential, X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), ultraviolet-visible (UV–vis) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The binding of β -CD/Trp/MgO/AgNPs with monosultap was studied in detail. The optimum experimental conditions were confirmed through single-factor experiments and response surface analysis. The interferences from the coexisting substances (common metal ions, glucose and congeneric drugs) were investigated to evaluate the method selectivity. Under the optimal conditions, the standard curve equation of monosultap was established within the concentration range of 2.00 × 10 −8 –1.00 × 10 −6  mol L −1 , with detection limit (LOD) of 0.970 nmol L −1 (3 σ / S ). The SERS approach was utilized for detecting monosultap in several vegetables and fruits with the recoveries from 96.3 % to 105 %.
