Herein, we described a mild and facile method for the synthesis of three-dimensional (3D) hierarchically porous TiO2. This method simultaneously realized the C,N self-dopant, introduced more surface defectives, and decreased in the band-gap energy (Eg) of TiO2. Rape pollen was chosen as the biotemplate to prepare TiO2, and the pore property of the obtained products could be adjusted by changing the amount of Ti precursor and calcination temperature. The as-synthesized pollen-TiO2 not only duplicated the morphology of rape pollen, but also showed enhanced 1-butene selectivity in the reaction of selective hydrogenation of 1,3-butadiene after loading elemental Pd, when comparing with the commercial TiO2. Butenes selectivity of 98% and 1-butene selectivity of 66% were achieved at 50 °C, because of the hierarchically porous structure of pollen-TiO2 and the lower Eg and more surface defects resulting from the C,N dopant.
N self-doped porous biochars (KBCs) were synthesized through high-temperature carbonization and KHCO 3 activation using chicken feathers as biomass. Subsequently, it was employed for the remediation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC)-contaminated water and soil. The properties of KBCs were analyzed by various characterization techniques. The results verified that KBC 800-2 exhibited outstanding specific surface area (1648.89 m 2 g −1 ) and pore volume (0.806 cm 3 g −1 ). The maximum adsorption capacity of KBC 800-2 for TC was 147.8 mg g −1 , which was superior to that of raw biochar (15.5 mg g −1 ). The results of pseudo-second-order and Freundlich indicated that the process was dominated by chemisorption. Moreover, the adsorption capacity of KBC 800-2 was stable over a wide pH range of 3–12 and high coexisting ionic strength. The consequences proved that the enhancement of pore filling effect and π-π electron interactions between TC and N self-doped adsorbent were the predominant driving forces to improve the adsorption efficiency of TC. Notably, compared to T50 (soil and 50 mg kg −1 TC), the properties of organic carbon, total nitrogen, and sucrase, urease, and catalase activities in TKBC 800-2 (soil, 50 mg kg −1 TC, and 2% KBC 800-2 ) were increased by 108.57%, 4.98%, 886.08%, 89.52%, and 78.08% respectively. KBC 800-2 as a low-cost and highly effective adsorbent for antibiotic pollution has enormous application potential. Graphical

In this study, we developed a simple strategy to synthesize a N self-doped hierarchically porous carbon adsorbent (LPC-NC) derived from biomass using potassium oxalate monohydrate and calcium carbonate and remove tetracyclines that are major antibiotics frequently measured in surface water. In the pyrolysis process, the N-enriching lotus seed pots biomass decomposed and formed a porous carbon matrix with self-doped N. The LPC-NC displayed high adsorption amount (506.6 mg/g for tetracycline (TTC) and 445.3 mg/g for oxytetracycline (OTC)), short equilibrium time (30 min) and stable reusability (the decline efficiency<8.0% after five cycles). Batch adsorption experimental and theoretical studies showed that the high adsorption capacity of LPC-NC for tetracyclines was mainly ascribed to the self-doped pyridinic-N species and the adsorption capacity of pyridinic-N species at the edge location was better than that of pyridinic-N species at the vacancy location. Importantly, we believe that the high adsorption performance of LPC-NC for tetracyclines is due to the activation of carbon π electrons by destroying the integrity of conjugation on LPC-NC, thus enhancing the π-π interaction between LPC-NC and tetracyclines. In addition, the results of solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) confirmed that the hierarchically porous structure of LPC-NC was conducive to the adsorption of tetracyclines. These insights provide new ideas for the rational design of N-doped carbon-based adsorbents for the efficient removal of tetracyclines.
