Excellent photocatalytic performance of PAA/Na2MoO4-Fe3+ hydrogel with Na2MoO4 as sacrificial agent for dye removal

Wei Gao,Yuyan Wang,Ming Zhong,Huichun Kang,Bitao Su,Ziqiang Lei

Currently, the majority of photocatalytic materials primarily consist of insoluble semiconductors, whereas soluble semiconductor materials have limited applications in photocatalysis. In this study, it is proposed for the first time to use the soluble semiconductor sodium molybdate (Na 2 MoO 4 ) as a sacrificial agent to fabricate a polyacrylic acid/sodium molybdate-Fe 3+ hydrogel photocatalyst (PAA/Na 2 MoO 4 -Fe 3+ ) through polymerization with Fe 3+ ions and acrylic acid (AA) monomer. The hydrogel photocatalyst was thoroughly characterized and the results revealed that the presence of Na 2 MoO 4 in ionic form within the hydrogel significantly enhanced its adsorption capacity for pollutant molecules. Additionally, Fe 3+ ions coordinated with -COOH ( L ) groups on PAA to form [Fe( L ) 6 ] 3+ ions, which acted as active sites of photocatalytic. Moreover, the PAA/Na 2 MoO 4 -Fe 3+ hydrogel exhibited promising potential as a photocatalyst for the remove of dye pollutants (e.g. MB, MG, RhB and MO) from wastewater. Finally, we also explored and analyzed the photocatalytic mechanism of the hydrogel. It is noteworthy to conclude that the hydrogel possesses immense potential for the practical application of photocatalytic techniques in the treatment of dyes wastewater.

A novel method to control the release rate of halloysite encapsulated Na2MoO4 with Ca2+ and corrosion resistance for Q235 steel

Xuteng Xing,Dan Zhou,Erjun Tang,Shaojie Liu,Xiaomeng Chu,Xiaodong Xu,Yongquan Xu

The natural halloysite nanotubes were used as the nanocontainer to load Na 2 MoO 4 corrosion inhibitor , and the release rate of Na 2 MoO 4 was further controlled by wrapped with the CaMoO 4 end stopper through adding with Ca 2+ . The variable release rates were fulfilled by the formation of CaMoO 4 end stopper with different strength, and the release time can be adjusted from one to dozens of hours. Moreover, the prepared complex corrosion inhibitor is also an acid-responsive smart material, which can quickly release the large amount of corrosion inhibitors under acidic conditions through the decomposition of insoluble CaMoO 4 complex on the surface or end of halloysite. In addition, the epoxy coating mixed with 10 wt% Ca 2+ treated Na 2 MoO 4 loaded halloysite can provide the highest corrosion resistance and sustained release of the corrosion inhibitor to achieve corrosion healing in the coating defects.

Synthesis and inhibition behavior of acid stimuli-responsive Ca-Na2MoO4-HNTs nanocomposite

Xuteng Xing,Jihui Wang,Wenbin Hu,Qiushi Li,Jing Yuan

Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) are the natural clay mineral with a tubular structure, which can be used as the nanocontainer for loading corrosion inhibitor . In this work, Na 2 MoO 4 was loaded into HNTs (defined as “Na 2 MoO 4 -HNTs”) through vacuum negative pressure method. In order to control the release rate of Na 2 MoO 4 from Na 2 MoO 4 -HNTs, the insoluble CaMoO 4 complex was introduced at the end of tubes through the interaction between Na 2 MoO 4 and Ca 2+ to obtain Ca-Na 2 MoO 4 -HNTs. The surface morphology was investigated by transmission electron microscope (TEM), and the release behavior was determined by UV–vis spectrophotometer . The inhibition behavior of Ca-Na 2 MoO 4 -HNTs for Q235 steel in 3.5% NaCl solution was investigated by electrochemical impedance spectrum techniques. The results show that Ca-Na 2 MoO 4 -HNTs owns insoluble CaMoO 4 complex capping the end of HNTs, and the total loading capacity of Na 2 MoO 4 is about 14.6%. Moreover, the tunable release of Na 2 MoO 4 can be achieved by controlling the strength of the CaMoO 4 complex stoppers at the end of HNTs, and the release time of Na 2 MoO 4 can be prolonged to more than 600 min. Importantly, the release rate of Na 2 MoO 4 will increase sharply in acid solution, owing to the decomposition of CaMoO 4 complex. In addition, Q235 steel in 3.5% NaCl solution + 1.0 g/L Ca-Na 2 MoO 4 -HNTs exhibits higher inhibition efficiency (60.62% at 24 h) than Q235 steel in 3.5% NaCl solution.

Simple and Controllable Preparation of Molybdenum Carbides by One-Step Co-Electrolysis of Na2MoO4 and CO2

Tao Wu,Jintao Zhang,Yunfei Chen,Yongzheng Jia,Jialiang An,Jianbang Ge,Mingyong Wang

Molybdenum carbides are the promising ceramic materials and catalysts. A new and green method for the controllable preparation of molybdenum carbides was proposed by one-step co-electrolysis of Na2MoO4 and CO2 greenhouse gas in carbonate molten salts. The solubility and decomposition thermodynamics of Na2MoO4 were analyzed. The structure, composition, current efficiency, energy consumption and extraction ratio of molybdenum carbide were effectively regulated by changing the molten salt composition, electrolytic voltage, temperature, and electrolytic time. It was confirmed that MoC, Mo2C or dual-phase MoC-Mo2C can be controllably prepared. Molybdenum carbides may be mainly obtained by the thermal reaction between C from CO2 and Mo from Na2MoO4. Molybdenum carbides prepared at 850 °C and 4.5 V in Na2CO3-K2CO3−32 wt% Li2CO3−15 wt% Na2MoO4 molten salts showed the best electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction. The work provides an innovative and sustainable strategy to prepare molybdenum carbides and utilize CO2.

Modulating the structure of O3-type NaNi1/3Fe1/3Mn1/3O2 for high-performance sodium-ion batteries via Na2MoO4 reactive wetting coating combined with Mo doping and interface reconstruction

Miaoyan Song,Lin Xu,Kemeng Wang,Guohu Chen,Zhaohong Tang,Kaiwen Zhou,Wenwei Wu,Xuehang Wu

O3-type NaNi 1/3 Fe 1/3 Mn 1/3 O 2 (NFM) is considered as a promising cathode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to its high theoretical energy density and low production cost. However, the applications of NFM are restricted owing to detrimental interfacial side reactions and phase evolution during cycling. Herein, a three-in-one modification strategy, including Na 2 MoO 4 coating, surface reconstruction from layered to spinel phase, and Mo 6+ doping, is proposed to design NFM. A uniform and tight Na 2 MoO 4 coating layer formed via reactive wetting mechanism can effectively inhibit the unfavorable side reactions between cathode and electrolyte. The formation of nanoscale spinel layer can anchor the interior layered structure, leading to a decrease in volume change during the sodiation/desodiation process. The incorporation of Mo 6+ with a high valence state and strong Mo O bonds into the O3 phase promotes the expansion of transition-metal layer spacing and enhances the structural stability. As a result, tri-modified NFM exhibits superior cycling stability with a capacity retention of 85.20 % after 300 cycles at 100 mA g −1 and rate performance with a discharge capacity of 56.9 mAh/g at 2000 mA g −1 , outperforming those of pristine NFM (61.76 % and 39.4 mAh/g). This synergistic modification approach provides a new avenue to improve the performance of layered-oxide cathode materials for SIBs.
