One-pot catalytic conversion of cellulose to ethylene glycol (EG) provides an efficient way toward the production of high value-added chemicals from the abundant biomass resource. However, control of product selectivity is a challenge due to the thermal instabilities of cellulose derived sugars. Here, a series of multifunctional NiCu/WO 3 catalysts were prepared and applied to this process. By tuning the metal ratio and WO 3 content, a high EG selectivity of 58.9% was obtained. The selectivity of total diols even reached 83.9%. Besides, the catalyst revealed excellent performance in the conversion of raw biomass. Characterization results showed that the special catalyst structure of WO 3 -wrapped metal particles enabled the reaction to proceed in a well-defined sequence and also facilitated the formation of NiCu-WO x-1 -O(H) interfacial sites. These interfacial sites offered high activity for the C C bond cleavage to produce glycolaldehyde from glucose. An appropriate amount of each active site ensured a well-synergistic effect of C C cleavage and hydrogenation capabilities, thus resulting in the highly selective formation of EG.
The properties of support have significant effects on the catalytic performance of supported catalysts. The present study involves the synthesis of a series of Mo-modified NbOPO4 supports, which were subsequently utilized for the preparation of supported NiCu bimetallic catalysts via a hydrothermal method. All catalysts were evaluated in the HDO of oleic acid to long-chain alkanes without carbon loss, an essential procedure for contemporary industrial applications. The effects of acidity and porosity on the dispersity and valence states of the metal components were systematically investigated via BET, XRD, SEM, XPS, NH3-TPD, and H2-TPR. Catalytic performance of the materials for HDO of oleic acid was assessed and it revealed that NiCu supported on Mo-modified NbOPO4 exhibited significantly enhanced selectivity for C18 compared to those supported on NbOPO4 (53.10% VS 84.16%) under the mild reaction condition of 250 °C reaction temperature, 3 MPa initial H2 pressure and 7 h reaction time. The resluts demonstrated the significant potential of Mo-modified NbOPO4 as a support for NiCu bimetallic catalysts, enabling efficient conversion of oleic acid into C18 and highlighted the crucial role of support modification in enhancing catalytic performance.

The development of transition metal based enzyme-free glucose (Glu) sensor with high sensitivity, wide linear range, and long-term stability is highly desired. Herein, a series of 2D/3D hierarchical structured bimetallic organic framework (NiCu-MOF- x , x = 2, 4, 6, 8) were developed through a one-step hydrothermal route by adjusting the ratio of nickel and copper salts. The morphological similarity of NiCu-MOF- x and Ni-MOF was evidenced by X-ray diffraction survey. The structural evolution of NiCu-MOF- x was revealed by scanning electron microscopy. The optimal NiCu-MOF-6 exhibits high electrocatalytic activity toward Glu oxidation. Being applied as the electrode modifier for glassy carbon electrode (GCE), NiCu-MOF-6/GCE exhibits a remarkably widened linear range than its monometallic analog, owing to its significantly increased electrochemical surface area, interconnected channels for mass/electron transfer and synergistically functionalized Ni/Cu electroactive sites. Being applied in human serum analysis, this sensor shows a good feasibility with satisfying recoveries.
