In this work, self-supported NiTe nanosheets were prepared via one-step microwave method. XRD and XPS spectroscopy showed the successful synthesis of NiTe material in the hexagonal crystal system. SEM and EDS were used to identify the microscopic morphology and composition of NiTe on nickel foam (NF). The electrode demonstrated specific capacitance (Cs) of 808.9 F g −1 and ultra-long cycle life of 60,000 cycles. In addition, a solid-state asymmetric supercapacitor consisted of NiTe@NF electrode as cathode material and demonstrated the largest energy density and power density of 94.4 μWh cm −2 and 7801.8 μW cm −2 , respectively, and the specific capacitance remained 83.3% after 20,000 cycles. Moreover, the as-obtained NiTe@NF catalyst also displayed an excellent catalytic activity for oxygen evolution reaction (OER), which achieved an ultra-low overpotential of 199.5 mV at 10 mA cm −2 .

The discovery of the “quantum tunneling fluid effect” in organisms has led to the exploration of constructing nanochannels for ultrafast transmission of ions or molecules, which is important for biochemical sensing, energy conversion, and mass transfer. Recently, responsive nanochannel membranes have been constructed by using 2D nanosheets and applied in the field of soft actuator fabrication. However, the response speed of these nanochannel membrane actuators (NMAs) is relatively slow compared to the ultrafast transmission of molecules within nanochannels. This delay can be attributed to the rate-limiting process of surface permeation. By increasing the surface defects on NMAs, the surface permeation process can be facilitated, resulting in improved response speed. In this study, we exploit the utilization of small active Laponite building blocks with a lateral size of 50 nm to induce more surface defects on NMAs. The resulting NMAs exhibit a rapid response speed of 175°/s (204 cm −1 /s) upon the stimuli of acetone vapor. Furthermore, we employ direct laser writing (DLW) to create Origami creases on NMAs, enabling programmable transformations and expanding their potential applications in soft grippers, responsive electrical switches, and soft robotics.
Developing effective and low-cost oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts based on earth-abundant elements is vital for future clean and regenerated energy systems. In this work, one-step growth of NiTe nanosheet film on nickel foam (NiTe/NF) via a facile tellurization treatment of NF has been demonstrated. This NiTe/NF electrode exhibits remarkable OER activity with overpotential requirement as low as 262 mV to deliver an anodic current density of 10 mA cm −2 , as well as superior durability in alkaline solution. This work provides an attractive earth-abundant 3D catalyst electrode for OER in overall water splitting.
