Perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) are emerging as promising scintillator materials owing to their high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and substantial X-ray absorption coefficient, among other superior properties. Nevertheless, their solid-state films encounter challenges such as limited environmental stability and nonuniform deposition over large areas. In contrast, liquid scintillators present advantages including superior radiation hardness, environmental stability, morphological flexibility, and cost-effective scalability, positioning them as a viable alternative. However, a significant limitation remains: PNCs demonstrate markedly reduced scintillation efficiency in solution. To address this issue, we propose an organic–inorganic hybridization strategy. The surface hybridization of metal halide perovskite CsPbX3 (X: Cl, Br, I) nanocrystals (NCs) with the organic molecule b-PBD results in a new generation of efficient and low-cost liquid scintillators. This hybrid system substantially enhances the X-ray radioluminescence quantum yield, achieving a light yield that represents an 18.59-fold increase over that of pristine CsPbBr3 solutions. The composite exhibited remarkable stability, retaining high luminescence intensity after high-dose X-ray irradiation and maintaining robust fluorescence intensity with stable emission peaks following prolonged ambient exposure. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and density-functional theory (DFT) analyses confirmed N–Pb bond formation, revealing an enhancement mechanism driven by X-ray-induced directional electron transfer from the organic molecule to PNCs. We have further demonstrated a CsPbBr3/b-PBD liquid X-ray imager showing a high spatial resolution of 4.9 lp/mm. This strategy demonstrates universal enhancement across CsPbX3 variants and lead-based PNCs (e.g., Mn: CsPbCl3, Ni: CsPbBr3), facilitating low-dose radiation detection for fundamental science and diverse imaging applications.

Solubility enhancement has been a priority to overcome poor solubility with optoelectronic molecules for solution-processable devices. This study aims to obtain experimental data on the effect of particle sizes on the solubility properties of several typical optoelectronic molecules in organic solvents, including the solubility results of 1,3-bis(9-carbazolyl)benzene (mCP), 1,3,5-tris(1-phenyl-1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)benzene (TPBi) and 2-(4- tert -butylphenyl)-5-(4-biphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (PBD) in ethanol and acetonitrile , respectively. Nanoparticles of mCP, TPBi and PBD with sizes from dozens to several hundred nanometers were prepared by solvent antisolvent precipitation method and their solubility were determined by using isothermal saturation method. The saturation solubility of nanoparticles of three kinds of optoelectronic molecules exhibited increase of 12.9%−25.7% in comparison to the same raw materials in the form of microparticles. The experimental evidence indicates that nanonization technology is a feasible way to make optoelectronic molecules dissolve in liquids with enhanced solubility.

2-(4-tert-Butylphenyl)-5-(4-biphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (PBD) is one of the most widely used electron transport layer materials in optoelectronic devices, and studies on the solubility of PBD in various solvents are critical for development of solution-processable roll-to-roll electronic devices. In this study, the isothermal saturation method is used to determine the solubility data of PBD in 12 commonly used organic solvents. The experimental solubility of PBD increases gradually with enhanced temperature for the examined temperature range of 283.15–323.15 K in n-hexane, methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, tetrahydrofuran (THF), acetonitrile, ethyl acetate, N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP), toluene, and chlorobenzene, while the temperature ranges were 293.15–333.15 K and 273.15–303.15 K for dimethyl sulfoxide and dichloromethane, respectively. The obtained solubility values of PBD are correlated by three models including the modified Apelblat equation, λh equation, and Yaws equation. Comparison of the calculated Akaike information criterion values resulted in selecting the optimal model for each solvent. Of the five solvents calculated, n-hexane, methanol, toluene, THF, and NMP, the λh equation provides an optimal fit. Both the modified Apelblat equation and the Yaws equation work well in chlorobenzene. Among the other six solvents, the fit of the Yaws equation is the best. These results of solubility provide the basic data for the synthesis of PBD nanoparticles via high-gravity-assisted antisolvent precipitation processing.

All-inorganic perovskite quantum dot (PeQD) light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) are promising candidates for the next-generation flat-panel displays and semiconductor lighting technology. However, the stability issues severely limit their commercial applications. In this study, highly stable CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) PeQD films were prepared using InX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) and trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) as inorganic–organic hybrid ligands to passivate the surface defects of PeQDs. The obtained InX3-TOPO-CsPbX3 PeQDs not only have high photoluminance quantum yields (PL QYs) and very narrow emission (14–35 nm) but also possess long-term stability. This is mainly due to the synergistic effect of InX3 and TOPO inorganic–organic surface ligand passivation, which can effectively inhibit the halogen vacancy and reduce the surface defect of PeQDs. In addition, the chemical states of InBr3-TOPO-CsPbBr3 PeQDs were analyzed by XPS technology and it was found that InX3-TOPO synergistic surface passivation can effectively reduce the Pb═O bond in the crystal lattice. Moreover, full-colored perovskite QLEDs based on InX3-TOPO-CsPbX3 PeQDs were achieved by using ZnO/PBD as the double electron transport layer, NiO/TFB as the double hole transport material, and InX3-TOPO-CsPbX3 PeQDs as the light-emitting layer. The EQE (%) and luminance (cd m–2) of red, green, and blue QLEDs based on these InX3-TOPO-CsPbX3 PeQDs were 8.2% and 9080 cd m–2, 7.8% and 18,600 cd m–2, and 1.62% and 164 cd m–2, respectively. This cooperative effect based on the InX3-TOPO hybrid passivation strategy will open a way for the preparation of highly efficient, stable, and color-tunable perovskite QLEDs.
