A one-step hydrothermal method was used to deposit a in situ composite coating on a magnesium alloy by adding ZIF-8 nanoparticles modified by polydopamine (PDA) (PDA@ZIF-8) as a photoabsorbing agent and growing Mg-Al double-layer hydroxide (LDH). The results showed that PDA@ZIF-8 nanoparticles had significant influence on the corrosion resistance, antibacterial properties, and biocompatibility of the LDH coating, and improved the compactness and crystallinity of LDH by regulating the growth of its lamella. Compared with the LDH coating, the corrosion current density of the composite coating by adding PDA@ZIF-8 nanoparticles was reduced from 2.28×10 -5 to 1.86×10 −6 A·cm -2 . And its immersion corrosion rates were 0.89 ± 0.05 mm·year −1 in SBF solution for 8 days. Meanwhile, it had antibacterial efficacy of 99.99% and 99.99% against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus , respectively, with the in vitro photothermal conversion efficiency of 29.77%. Moreover, besides greatly improving osteogenic activity and biocompatibility in vitro, the composite coating with the addtion of PDA@ZIF-8 nanoparticlescan also drive M1-type macrophages to M2-biased phenotypes after exposure to 808 nm NIR light, changing in macrophage secretion for tissue regeneration, and fulfill the excellent antibacterial properties in vivo antibacterial implantation test. This method can provide an effective way and strategy for regulating and enhancing the antibacterial functionalization and improving the corrosion resistance of the double-layer hydroxide coating on the surface of magnesium alloys.

Developing high-performance membranes is an extremely significant strategy to combat increasing severe oil pollution. However, most of the previously reported superwettable membranes have been inevitably involved with the use of toxic solvents and complicated preparation processes. In addition, most of them lacked the capacity of separating crude oil-in-water emulsions. Herein, a facile and green strategy is employed to fabricate a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane with a mixed suspension of PDA@ZIF-8 and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) using water as a solvent via the vacuum filtration method. Combining hydrophilic property with micro–nano-roughness, the CMC-PDA@ZIF-8-coated PTFE membrane (CPZP membrane) exhibits excellent underwater superoleophobicity. More importantly, the separation efficiency of various surfactant-stabilized oil-in-water emulsions including crude oil/water emulsion is higher than 99.2% with a flux up to 1306.5 L m–2 h–1, and the separation performance remains nearly the same after 10 cycles. Moreover, outstanding underwater superoleophobic and self-cleaning properties are maintained after long-distance sandpaper abrasion and multiple bending tests. Meanwhile, its exceptional separation performance is still maintained in harsh environments (3.5 wt % NaCl, 1 M HCl, 60 °C hot water) even after immersing it for 24 h. Therefore, this green-prepared and high-performance membrane has tremendous application prospects in treating oily wastewater.

Forward osmosis (FO) technology, known for its minimal energy requirements, excellent resistance to fouling, and significant commercial potential, shows enormous promise in the development of sustainable technologies, especially with regard to seawater desalination and wastewater. In this study, we improved the performance of the FO membrane in terms of its mechanical strength and hydrophilic properties. Generally, the water flux ( J w ) of polyisophenylbenzamide (PMIA) thin-film composite (TFC)-FO membranes is still inadequate for industrial applications. Here, hydrophilic polydopamine (PDA)@ zeolitic imidazolate frameworks-8 (ZIF-8) nanomaterials and their integration into PMIA membranes using the interfacial polymerization (IP) method were investigated. The impact of PDA@ZIF-8 on membrane performance in both pressure-retarded osmosis (PRO) and forward osmosis (FO) modes was analyzed. The durability and fouling resistance of these membranes were evaluated over the long term. When the amount of ZIF-8@PDA incorporated in the membrane reached 0.05 wt% in the aqueous phase in the IP reaction, the J w values for the PRO mode and FO mode were 12.09 LMH and 11.10 LMH, respectively. The reverse salt flux ( J s )/J w values for both modes decreased from 0.75 and 0.80 to 0.33 and 0.35, respectively. At the same time, the PRO and FO modes’ properties were stable in a 15 h test. The incorporation of PDA@ZIF-8 facilitated the formation of water channels within the nanoparticle pores. Furthermore, the J s / J w ratio decreased significantly, and the FO membranes containing PDA@ZIF-8 exhibited high flux recovery rates and superior resistance to membrane fouling. Therefore, PDA@ZIF-8-modified FO membranes have the potential for use in industrial applications in seawater desalination.

Sustainable management of plant bacterial diseases calls for delivery systems that minimize reliance on conventional synthetic pesticides while improving deposition efficiency, on-demand release, and environmental compatibility. This study employs a coordination-driven hollowing strategy to construct interface-optimized hollow metal–phenolic nanocarrier (NaSA@PDA@ZIF-8), achieving synergistic loading of sodium salicylate and Zn 2+ . PDA-induced etching of ZIF-8 generates a well-defined hollow architecture while enhancing hydrophilicity and colloidal stability. The optimized nanocarrier, obtained via Box–Behnken response surface design, achieves a NaSA loading content of 23.90%. Regarding interfacial performance, the carrier exhibits significantly optimized wetting behavior with a contact angle reduced to 51.15°, enhanced dynamic spreading speed, and outstanding leaf adhesion and rain-wash resistance, ensuring effective retention and utilization in complex field environments. Under simulated bacterial wilt conditions in tobacco (acidic pH 5.0 and elevated temperature of 35 °C), the system exhibited enhanced release behavior. The cumulative release of NaSA reached 81.72% and 83.40%, while Zn 2+ release reached 23.19% and 18.72%, indicating good responsiveness to disease-relevant microenvironmental conditions. Its antibacterial activity (EC 50 = 17.80 mg·L -1 ) is likely associated with multiple contributing factors, including Zn 2+ release, potential ROS generation mediated by PDA, and NaSA-related activation of plant defense responses. This work demonstrates a hollow metal–phenolic nanoplatform that integrates interfacial adhesion, stimuli-responsive co-delivery, and biosafety, providing a multifunctional reference model for green plant protection. The combination of multidrug chemotherapy and photothermal therapy (PTT) enhances cancer therapeutic efficacy. Herein, we develop a simple and smart pH/NIR dual-stimulus-responsive degradable mesoporous CoFe2O4@PDA@ZIF-8 sandwich nanocomposite. The mesoporous CoFe2O4 core acts as T2-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) imaging probe, PTT agent, and loading platform of hydrophilic doxorubicin (DOX). A polydopamine (PDA) layer is used to avoid the premature leakage of DOX before arriving at tumor site, enhance PTT efficiency, and facilitate the integration of ZIF-8 (a kind of metal–organic framework). The ZIF-8 shell serves to encapsulate hydrophobic camptothecin (CPT) and as the switch for the pH and NIR stimulation-responsive release of the two drugs. Therefore, T2-weighted MR imaging-guided multidrug chemotherapy and PTT synergistic treatment is achieved. Two kinds of anticancer drugs, hydrophilic DOX and hydrophobic CPT, are successfully loaded in CoFe2O4 and ZIF-8, respectively, so no mutual interference between the two drugs exists. A unique two-stage stepwise release process is exhibited for CPT and DOX with an interval of 12 h to improve the anticancer efficacy under the acidic microenvironment of tumor tissue. NIR irradiation achieves the burst drug-release and PTT after laser stimulation, simultaneously. With this smart design, high drug concentration is achieved at the tumor site by quick release, especially for the therapeutic drugs that show nonlinear pharmacokinetics, and PTT is integrated efficiently. Furthermore, negligible biotoxicity and a remarkable synergic antitumor effect of the hybrid nanocomposites are validated by HepG2 cells and tumor-bearing mice as models. Our multidrug delivery-releasing composite improves tumor therapeutic efficiency significantly compared with a single-drug chemotherapy system. The simple multifunctional composite system can be applied as an effective platform for personal nanomedicine with diagnosis, smart drug delivery, and cancer treatment through its remarkable photothermal property and controllable multidrug release.
