Herein, a g-C 3 N 4 /PDI-g-C 3 N 4 homojunction has been fabricated for piezo-photocatalytic atrazine removal and exhibited better performance than individual photocatalysis or piezocatalysis. The introduction of PDI induces the π-π interaction facilitating electrons migration, and twists the g-C 3 N 4 plane into a more polar porous structure with enhanced piezoelectricity. The homojunction facilitates the photoelectron transfer at the g-C 3 N 4 /PDI-g-C 3 N 4 interfaces. The photoelectricity and the piezoelectricity of g-C 3 N 4 /PDI-g-C 3 N 4 were assessed. The finite element simulation showed that the porous structure of the g-C 3 N 4 /PDI-g-C 3 N 4 is essential to the enhanced piezoelectricity. Astonishingly, the piezo-photocatalytic atrazine degradation rate under an optimized condition (pH=2.97) reached 94% within 60 min. Moreover, the g-C 3 N 4 /PDI-g-C 3 N 4 homojunction produced 625.54 μM H 2 O 2 during the one-hour piezo-photocatalysis. Given the quenching experiments, reactive species detection and the electronic band of g-C 3 N 4 /PDI-g-C 3 N 4 , the piezo-photocatalytic mechanism has been proposed. In addition, the degradation pathways and the reduced intermediates toxicity intermediates of atrazine have been investigated.
In this study, a novel π-π stacked PDI/g-C 3 N 4 /TiO 2 @Ti 3 C 2 photocatalyst with step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction was constructed to boost the atrazine (ATZ) photocatalytic degradation by activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS). The π-π interaction in the PDI/g-C 3 N 4 induced the delocalization of the photoelectrons, therefore promoted their migration. Meanwhile, the intimate contact and the staggered band configurations between the PDI/g-C 3 N 4 and TiO 2 @Ti 3 C 2 results in the S-scheme heterojunction thus declined the recombination of photocarriers. The π-π interaction and S-scheme heterojunction synergistically promoted the ATZ removal rate to 75% within one hour and can be well-adapted in a variety of environments. It was found that 1 O 2 domain the photocatalysis, and the H 2 O 2 generated during the reaction may also be helpful for the process. The transformation of ATZ, intermediates, and three pathways during the process were also investigated via LC-MS. Moreover, the total organic carbon analysis shows that the mineralization of ATZ reached 46.08%.
g–C 3 N 4 / PDI–g–C 3 N 4 homojunction (CPCN–X) was prepared to effectively remove sulfamethoxazole (SMX) from water under visible light. The band of CPCN–X bent and the new flat band potential resulted in the generation of a built–in electric field at the contact interface between PDI–g–C 3 N 4 (CNPDI) and g–C 3 N 4 (CN). This facilitated interlayer charge migration, optimized the transportation efficiency of photoinduced electron pairs, and thereby boosted photocatalytic activity. CPCN–6 photocatalyst prepared with a mass ratio of 1:6 (CNPDI to CN) exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity, which can degrade 97.0 % of SMX after 90 min of visible light irradiation. The related degradation rate constant was calculated as 0.0371 min −1 , which was a 2.3 and 4.7 fold increase in comparison to CNPDI and CN, respectively. Free radical scavenging experiments revealed that ·O 2 − and h + were the predominant active materials for the photocatalytic decomposition of SMX by CPCN–6, while ·OH and 1 O 2 exhibited a relatively negligible contribution. It was found that CPCN–6 exhibited the potential to degrade sulfonamide antibiotics and the limited ability to remove atrazine and phenol in the visible light region due to the difference of redox properties and molecular structure.
