The time evolution of the photoluminescence properties in phenylethylammonium tin halide perovskite (PEA 2 SnI 4 ) film as a function of oxygen concentration is reported. Photo-brightening and reversible photoluminescence quenching are observed in PEA 2 SnI 4 film at ultralow oxygen concentration (< 1.5 vol%). In the case of 1.5 vol% < [O 2 ] < 21 vol%, the photoluminescence emission of PEA 2 SnI 4 film can be partially recovered after resetting the samples to nitrogen box. As the oxygen concentration further increases with the range of 21 to 95 vol%, the photoluminescence emission of PEA 2 SnI 4 film is significantly quenched and can only be slightly recovered after removing it to the nitrogen box. By correlating the material characterizations and theoretical analysis, the interactions between PEA 2 SnI 4 and oxygen contain physisorption and chemical reactions are illustrated. Depending on the oxygen concentration, the chemical reactions between PEA 2 SnI 4 and oxygen can be reversible and/or irreversible. The insights into oxygen concentration effects provide a guideline to optimize the stability of PEA 2 SnI 4 for achieving high-performance optoelectronic devices.

Tin halide perovskites offer a lead-free alternative for optoelectronics, yet their strong tendency toward self-trapped exciton (STE) formation has hindered the development of color-pure emission. Here, we report a strategy to control the emission behavior of two-dimensional PEA2SnI4 nanoplatelets through a synergistic approach combining Sn2+ vacancy suppression and surface oxidation control. By introducing excess stannous oleate during synthesis, we suppress Sn vacancies, shifting the emission from broadband yellow (STE-dominated) to narrowband red (band-edge excitonic emission). Further narrowing is achieved by replacing conventional ligands with antioxidant surface ligands, stabilizing Sn2+ and eliminating residual traps. This approach yields highly luminescent PEA2SnI4 nanoplatelet colloidal solution with sharp red emission and a record-high quantum yield of 17.2%. Structural and spectroscopic analyses reveal a clear correlation between lattice distortion and electron–phonon coupling. Our findings offer a rational design strategy for defect-tolerant, lead-free quantum emitters with tunable excitonic properties.

Tin-based perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) have emerged as promising candidates for environmentally benign optoelectronic applications. However, their practical performance remains limited by severe interfacial defect states, particularly at the buried interface. In this work, we introduce a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) molecule [4-(3,6-dibromo-9H-carbazol-9-yl)butyl]phosphonic acid (Br-4P), combining NiOx to effectively mitigate interfacial defects for PEA2SnI4-based (PEA = phenethylammonium) pure-red PeLEDs. This SAM is meticulously designed with tailored dimensions to achieve interfacial structural synergy with PEA2SnI4, serving as a bridging component between NiOx and the perovskite. The insertion of Br-4P promotes superior crystallinity and more uniform crystal orientation, enables the passivation of undercoordinated Sn2+ species, and the phosphate group of Br-4P functions to anchor onto NiOx. As a result, the optimized PeLEDs achieved a peak external quantum efficiency of 6.19% at 623 nm with a narrow full width at half-maximum of 27 nm and a luminance of 226 cd·m–2. This work highlights the critical role of interface engineering in unlocking the potential of Sn-based perovskite emitters for high-efficiency, nontoxic light-emitting applications.

Biological vision system-inspired optoelectronic synapses integrate sensing, memory, and processing for external information perception. However, most efforts focus on spatial expansion while overlooking critical dimensions like polarization and temporal evolution, which are critical for information extraction in complex environments. Inspired by the polarization-sensitive properties of kingfisher vision, we develop a polarization-sensitive optoelectronic synapse array device based on PEA 2 SnI 4 microwires array. Their anisotropic properties ensure polarization recognition, achieving a dichroic ratio of 1.38. And the asymmetric electrode designs create differentiated contact barriers, facilitating efficient charge storage and erasure under low power consumption. By employing four polarization-state-dependent convolutional kernels, the device demonstrates edge extraction capabilities even under 50% salt pepper noise. Furthermore, it enables high-precision in-sensor reservoir computing, with 100% accuracy in extracting fish trajectories under complex light environments. This work demonstrates motion perception in complex environments and provides a foundation for developing multi-dimensional, time-resolved visual systems for intelligent sensing and recognition.
