Chronic refractory wounds present a significant global healthcare challenge, characterized by persistent inflammation and impaired tissue repair that conventional dressings often fail to adequately modulate. While Dragon ’s blood (Dra), a traditional Chinese medicine, offers potent anti-inflammatory and angiogenic properties highly suitable for this complex microenvironment, its clinical translation is severely hindered by inherent hydrophobicity and low bioavailability. To address these limitations and bridge the therapeutic gap, we developed a novel Dra-loaded polyethyleneimine/polyacrylic acid (PEI/PAA) xerogel powder. We first optimized the solubility of Dragon ’s blood extract (Dra-Ext) using solid dispersion and inclusion complex technologies. Comparative analysis indicated that solid dispersion with PVPK30 achieved superior solubility enhancement (12.12 μg/mL, a 46-fold increase) compared to the HP-β-CD inclusion complex. The optimized xerogel powder (Dra-SD/PEI/PAA powder) exhibited rapid gelation (<30 s), high fluid absorption (340.5% ± 10% within 30 s), excellent self-healing capabilities, and sustained drug release (85.8% ± 0.3% over 48 h at pH 7.4). Furthermore, the dressing demonstrated superior hemostatic activity (coagulation time = 0.85 ± 0.07 min) and favorable biocompatibility. In a rat model of chronic refractory wounds, the Dra-SD/PEI/PAA treatment significantly accelerated wound closure (99.50% healing rate at day 14), promoted collagen deposition, and downregulated pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β by 61.25% and IL-6 by 84.85%). These findings indicate that the Dra-SD/PEI/PAA platform effectively integrates solubility enhancement with rapid hemostasis and inflammation modulation, offering a promising therapeutic strategy for chronic wound management. Polyacrylic acid has a wide range of applications in the field of superhydrophilicity, but due to its single composition, there are problems such as insufficient mechanical strength and functional limitations. In order to extend its application, we prepared a new IPN hydrogel PEI-PAA/PDMC. The results show that the new hydrogel loaded on different substrates (stainless steel mesh/filter cloth) possesses superhydrophilicity (WCA < 10°) and underwater superoleophobicity (OCA > 150°). The hydrogels not only separated oil–water mixtures with high throughput and efficiency (98%, 12,000 L m −2 h −1 ), but also separated oil-in-water emulsions by gravity alone (95%, 700 L m −2 h −1 ). Due to the large number of quaternary ammonium groups in the DMC, we have tested the antimicrobial properties of the DMC with excellent results (99.2% inhibition). Compared with previous studies, this paper introduces that PEI has the ability to adsorb heavy metals, and we tested Cu 2+ and found that the adsorption and separation efficiency reached 75%. This study provides new ideas for the direction of wastewater treatment.

In circumstances of severe traumatic bleeding, urgent bleeding control is vital to the wellness and life of the wounded person. Among many hemostatic measures, gauze is widely used because of cost-effectiveness, safety and efficiency. However, it may suck a large amount of blood before bleeding stops. Thus, advanced hemostatic gauzes less blood loss and quick hemostatic rate and is greatly demanded. Herein, a novel tissue adhesive gauze (TA-gauze) is developed by coating a thin layer of polyethyleneimine/poly(acrylic acid) (PEI/PAA) on the plain cotton gauze. This TA-gauze has a reduced hydrophilicity and gets a new trait of wet tissue adhesiveness from the PEI/PAA coating layer. The TA-gauze shows much improved hemostatic performance in the rat injury models, that is, its blood loss in the rat femoral artery model is just 13% that of the cotton gauze, due to it can retard the blood movement in the gauze and at the seam of gauze/tissue through a synergistic effect of tissue adhesion and hygroscopicity. It is biocompatible and on-demand detachable. The simple preparation procedure and high hemostatic efficiency of the TA-gauze may promise a bright future for an ideal hemostatic dressing for bleeding control.
