Aspect-ratio controllable growth of rectangular cesium lead bromide crystallites on PTAA modified substrates

Junhan Guo,Yang Tang,Longtao Li,Pengcheng Jia,Bo Song,Xin Liu,Xiaomeng Li,Zhenbo Deng,Zhidong Lou,Yufeng Hu,Feng Teng,Liang Qin,Yanbing Hou

Micro–nano cesium lead halide perovskites have become one of the most potential materials for optoelectronic applications due to their excellent photoelectric properties such as tunable band gap, high absorption efficiency, long carrier diffusion length, and high stability. Although significant efforts have been made to grow CsPbBr3 single crystal perovskites via solution processing, it is difficult to prepare discrete high-quality factors and small volumes of Fabry–Pérot (F–P) mode and whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) optical resonators on the substrate due to random nucleation and excessive nucleation points, which lead to the accretion of a large number of crystallites. In this work, CsPbBr3 crystallites with different aspect ratios have been prepared on poly[bis(4-phenyl) (2,4,6-trimethylphenyl) amine] (PTAA) modified glass substrates by combining the control of evaporation rate of anti-solvents with the coffee ring effect and Marangoni effect. Due to the hydrophobic properties of PTAA, the nucleation points are significantly reduced, resulting in the growth of high-quality and robust single crystals separated from each other. These crystallites exhibit a high-quality factor (Q = 1200–1600) with a threshold of 10–20 μJ cm−2. The results indicate that the prepared CsPbBr3 crystallites can be used as promising micro–nano F–P and WGM lasers.

Synergistic potentiation between P3HT and PTAA enables blade-coated carbon-electrode perovskite solar cells with >21% outdoor and >35% indoor efficiencies

Junjie Tong,Chen Dong,Victor Marrugat Arnal,Miaosen Yao,Qichao Wang,Yuhao Song,Yingying Deng,Yueyue Gao,Gentian Yue,Weifeng Zhang,Makhsud I. Saidaminov,Furui Tan

P3HT is a promising hole-transport layer (HTL) for efficient and stable carbon electrode-based perovskite solar cells (C-PSCs). However, the reported low efficiencies of P3HT C-PSCs, resulting from the unmatched band alignment and electronically poor contact between perovskite and P3HT, is an obstacle. In this work, we propose a binary HTL system that incorporates PTAA into P3HT to address this issue, thereby achieving efficiencies of 21.3 % (0.04 cm 2 ) and 18.8 % (1.0 cm 2 ) under AM 1.5G illumination, and 35.2 % under indoor illumination of 1000 lx, all of which are the highest reported values for low-temperature printable C-PSCs. Experimental and theoretical results revealed that the performance improvements mainly stem from the following collaborative effects between P3HT and PTAA: 1) the introduction of PTAA increases more face-on orientations of P3HT as well as enhanced π–π stacking, forming more effective charge transport channels as molecular bridges; 2) the hole extraction barrier from perovskite to P3HT is reduced by 0.07 eV through incorporating PTAA; 3) triarylamine PTAA and other more face-on configurations can provide additional and stronger passivation sites, intensifying the defect passivation effects. Finally, unencapsulated P3HT-PTAA C-PSCs maintain ≈91 % of initial performance after maximum power point tracking for over 900 h.

Tri(4-trifluoromethylphenyl)phosphine-Modified Hole-Transport Material PTAA to Improve the Performance of Perovskite Solar Cells

Shuming Chen,Jintao Wang,Zhenyu Wang,Ziqiang Chen,Kai Fang,Chenyang He,Ning Jiang,Jian Zhang,Ye Li,Chuannan Li,Peng Li,Wenlong Jiang,Yu Duan

The energy level alignment and conductivity of hole transport layers (HTLs) are critical to the performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Additive engineering is an effective approach, and we introduced tri(4-trifluoromethylphenyl)phosphine (343FP) as an additive into poly[bis(4-phenyl)(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)amine] (PTAA). Studies have shown that the addition of 343FP can lead to improved charge transport properties in the PTAA and can also enhance charge transport, leading to improved device efficiency of the resulting perovskite solar cell. 343FP reduces the highest occupied molecular orbital energy level of PTAA, improves the conductivity of HTLs, and passivates the interface defects, and the optimized device of 343FP shows a champion efficiency of 20.02%. In addition, due to the hydrophobicity of 343FP, compared with the traditional hygroscopic dopant lithium bis((trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl)azide (Li-TFSI)/4-tert-butylphenol (t-BP) bi-doped (Li-doped) PTAA and the undoped PTAA, the device with 343FP-doped PTAA has better environmental stability. After 1000 h of exposure to the environment, the efficiency of 78% of the original value can be maintained. This work will open up a new method for the optimization of high-efficiency and high-stability perovskite photovoltaic hole transport layers.

Heteropolymer improves p-i junction in perovskite solar cells

Zhongzhong Jia,Song Yin,Xudong Liu,Mingxuan Liu,Hua Zhong,Shi Chen,Luozheng Zhang,Shaopeng Yang,Weiguang Kong

The p-i heterojunction imbedded underneath the perovskite layer plays a vital role in determining the efficiency and stability of inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs). We found that poly[bis(4-phenyl) (2,4,6-trimethylphenyl) amine] (PTAA) suffers from the severely chain entanglement resulting in poor contact with perovskite. In this work, PTAA layer was treated by poly[(2,6-(4,8-bis(5-(2-ethylhexylthio)-4-fluorothiophen-2-yl)-benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′] dithiophene))- alt -(5,5-(1′,3′-di-2-thienyl-5′,7′-bis(2-ethylhexyl) benzo[1′,2′-c:4′,5′-c′] dithiophene-4,8-dione)] (PBDB- T -SF) diluted solution in chlorobenzene . PBDB- T -SF, which contains dual carbonyl groups in its backbones and suitable electronic levels, can spontaneously fill the voids in chlorobenzene-washed PTAA (nano-PTAA). This not only promotes the work function of the substrate but also strengthens the coherence between perovskite and the substrate. Blade coated PSC (0.09 cm 2 ) containing PBDB- T -SF (s-PSCs) realized a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 21.83 %. After aging for more than 2000 h, s-PSCs maintains 88 % of the initial efficiency which is only 59 % for the control devices.

Overcoming the wetting issues of PTAA in inverted perovskite solar cells by cinnamyl alcohol modification

Zhen He,Junqian Dai,Jian Xiong,Qiaofei Hu,Qing Yang,Yuanwei Pu,Qiyu Yang,Yingqi Zuo,Jiang Wang,Yongchao Liang,Jian Zhang

The hydrophobic nature of poly(bis(4-phenyl)(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)amine)(PTAA) limited the performance, stability as well as reproducibility of the inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, an efficient interface modification strategy based on cinnamyl alcohol (CA) has been proposed to solve these challenges. As a result, the wettability of the perovskite on the surface of the PTAA film is significantly improved, which correspondingly enhances the film quality of the perovskite layer and the interface contact with the PTAA layer. At the same time, the trap states as well as interface energy loss are greatly eliminated, and promotes the improvement of device performance, stability and reproducibility. The short-circuited and abnormal devices have been eliminated, and repeatability of devices are dramatically improved with CA treatment. The average power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the device increased by 75.20%, rising from 10.22% to 19.41%, while the highest PCE achieved with this strategy reached 21.31%. Furthermore, the stability of devices has been greatly improved. This strategy offers a simple yet effective solution for modifying the hydrophobic hole-transport layer in inverted perovskite solar cells to address wettability mismatch, while also providing insights for the selection and design of modifying molecules.

Enhanced Photoresponse Performance of Self-Powered PTAA/GaN Microwire Heterojunction Ultraviolet Photodetector Based on Piezo-Phototronic Effect

Fei Chen,Congcong Deng,Xingfu Wang,Chao Liu,Qing Liu,Can Zou,Guohui Wu,Zixuan Zhao,Kai Chen,Fangliang Gao,Shaobin Zhan,Shuti Li

The development of self-powered high-performance UV photodetectors is essential for energy efficient futuristic wearable and portable applications. Herein, a self-powered organic/inorganic (PTAA/GaN microwire) hybrid heterojunction ultraviolet (UV) photodetector (PD) has been prepared by a low-cost and simple spin-coating method. Furthermore, the piezo-phototronic effect as an effective interfacial regulating strategy is utilized to modulate the photo-response performances of the PD by engineering the energy-band structure at the local junction/interface. Under 325 nm laser irradiation, the obtained device demonstrates excellent photo-response properties at 0 V bias, showing a high responsivity (268 mA W −1 ) and detectivity (2.49 × 10 12 Jones) under weak light intensity as low as 0.2 mW cm −2 , as well as fast response speeds (rise time of 14 ms and decay time of 23 ms). The PD exhibits better performance than most reported organic/inorganic heterojunction self-powered PDs. By applying a − 0.52% compressive strain, the responsivity and detectivity of the device are greatly enhanced by 32% without external bias, and by 1256% at 2 V bias under 1.4 mW cm −2 light intensity. On the contrary, by applying a 0.41% tensile strain, the responsivity and detectivity are decreased by 18% without external bias. It indicates that the strain has a significant modulating effect on the photo-response performance of the PD. The positive piezo-potential modulated energy-band structure at the PTAA/GaN interface may account for the enhanced performance. This study demonstrates a promising approach to optimize the performance of a self-powered heterostructure optoelectronic devices through strain modulated.

Hydrophobic Dilauroyl Peroxide Improves the Electrical Performance and Stability of PTAA in both n-i-p and p-i-n Perovskite Solar Cells

Lan Zhineng,Wan Meng,Yan Huilin,Huang Hao,Liu Benyu,Lu Yi,Yang Yingying,Suo Yi,Zhang Guanzheng,Du Shuxian,Zhang Qiang,Wang Zhiwei,Jiang Tongtong,Sun Changxu,Qu Shujie,Yan Luyao,Cui Peng,Li Meicheng

Stability degradation plagues both regular n-i-p and inverted p-i-n perovskite solar cells (PSCs), with the organic hole transport layer (HTL) constituting a key restricting factor. Poly(triarylamine) (PTAA) possesses intrinsic polymer characteristics and excellent thermal stability, rendering it a competitive candidate for high-performance PSCs applicable to both device structures. However, challenging p-doping procedures and vulnerability to humidity restrict its utilization. Herein, we introduced a hydrophobic dilauroyl peroxide (DP) with oxidation ability and a long-chain alkanes structure into the PTAA. Upon cleavage of the peroxide bond (−O–O−) of DP, two decanoyl free radicals are generated. These radicals seize the lone pair of electrons on the N atom of the triarylamine in PTAA, oxidizing PTAA into a positively charged radical PTAA •+ , thereby achieving p-type doping of PTAA. This doping process enhances the electrical properties and transport characteristics of PTAA. Besides, the introduction of long-chain alkyl groups enhances the hydrophobicity of the PTAA film, increasing the water contact angle from 60.18 ° to 80.39 ° . As a result, the champion PCE of n-i-p PSCs increased from 23.49% to 24.82%, while that of p-i-n PSCs increased from 25.26% to 26.04%. Moreover, the humidity stability and thermal stability of the PSCs are enhanced. As a result, after the PSC aged for approximately 4752 h at 25 ° C and 45% relative humidity, it still maintained 97% of its initial PCE.

Controllable electrolysis doping of organic semiconductors for stable perovskite solar cells

Hao Huang,Zhineng Lan,Yingying Yang,Huilin Yan,Meng Wan,Yi Lu,Shujie Qu,Tongtong Jiang,Changxu Sun,Benyu Liu,Peng Cui,Meicheng Li

The conventional doping method of organic semiconductors (commonly including lithium bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide [LiTFSI]) served as hole transport layers in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) suffers from a complex, time-consuming oxidation process, detrimentally impacting device stability. Herein, we propose a novel electrolysis doping strategy to modulate organic semiconductors, enabling controllable doping and effective Li⁺ removal. This electrolysis doping exploits holes with tunable oxidizing capabilities to oxidize organic semiconductors into ion radicals at the surface of the anode electrode, which exhibits a high reproducibility and a universal application on different organic semiconductors. Simultaneously, Li⁺ ions can be reduced to Li atoms at the surface of the cathode electrode, thus removing stability-damaging residual Li + . Accordingly, the regular PSCs using electrolyzed 2,2',7,7'-Tetrakis[N,N-di(4-methoxyphenyl)amino]-9,9'-spirobifluorene (Spiro) achieve a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 26.16%, and the inverted-structured PSCs using electrolyzed poly[bis(4-phenyl) (2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)amine (PTAA) achieve a PCE of 25.57% with satisfying stability by maintaining 91% of initial efficiency after operating for 1,400 h under continuous one-sun illumination.
