Cataract is the first leading cause of blindness in the world and posterior capsule opacification (PCO) is the most common long-term complication after surgery. The primary pathogenic processes contributing to PCO are the proliferation and migration of residual lens epithelial cells (LECs). This study aimed to explore the mild photothermal effect on LECs. Interestingly, this work finds that the mild photothermal effect significantly inhibited the proliferation and migration of LECs. The live cell fluorescence imaging reveals that the remodeling of the actin cytoskeleton and cell morphology attributed to the inhibition effect. Further mechanistic studies at molecular level suggest that the mild photothermal effect can regulate the phosphorylation of ERM, YAP, and Cofilin and thereby affect the proliferation and migration of LECs. In order to explore the potential clinical application of mild photothermal therapy for PCO prevention, PDA/PVA gel rings with photothermal effect is prepared by the repeated freeze-thaw method and conducted experiments in vivo, which achieved favorable PCO prevention effect. Overall, this study shows that the mild photothermal effect can regulate the proliferation and migration of LECs through cytoskeletal remodeling and the results of experiments in vivo demonstrate that mild photothermal effect is a promising approach for PCO prevention.
Zn-powder based anodes are considered as candidates for Zn-based batteries in practical industrial applications in terms of cost, large-scale processing, versatility and tunability. However, Zn-P-based anodes suffer from even more severe side effects including corrosion, passivation, and uncontrolled dendrite growth. Herein, we successfully fabricated nitrogen-doped carbon coating layer on Zn particles (Zn-NC) as anode material for more homogeneous Zn deposition by inducing more zincophilic site on N-doped carbon layers and enhanced electrical connection with carbon networks on Zn-NC particle surface. Nevertheless, metallic Zn deposited on Zn-NC surface still suffers from unavoidable side effects with continuous cycling, even though the dendrite growth was suppressed. It is worth mentioned that PVA-gel electrolyte greatly improves the cycling performance of Zn-NC with limited water content, which can alleviate side reactions. Experiments and simulations address the importance of NC layers with higher electricity, chemical stability, and zincophilic property, as well as the role that PVA-gel electrolyte plays for the further improved cycling performance. Zn-NC with PVA-gel electrolyte achieves ultra-long cycling hours with over 3500 h at 1 mA cm −2 and 850 h at 5 mA cm −2 in symmetrical cells. This study provides a promising pathway and in-depth mechanistic analysis for Zn-powder based anode in versatile applications especially for flexible energy-storage devices.

A carbazole-based Schiff-base small molecule ( FG ) was developed, with its molecular structure characterized by 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, HRMS-ESI, IR spectroscopy and DFT calculations to confirm the presence of key functional groups and spatial configuration. This compound exhibited remarkable fluorescence enhancement upon coordination with Zn 2+ , and the FG–Zn²⁺ complex efficiently transferred energy to four fluorophores—Rhodamine 6 G ( RH6G ), Eosin Y, Acridine Red, and Nile red. Notably, white-light emission was achieved at a 60:1 molar ratio of FG–Zn²⁺ to RH6G , with CIE coordinates (0.30, 0.34), close to the standard white-light point (0.33, 0.33). Additionally, FG can be mixed with polyvinyl alcohol ( PVA ) to form a writable gel that reveals hidden patterns under UV light, showing promise for information encryption and secure data storage.
