The dynamic nature of formamidine lead iodide quantum dots (FAPbI3 QDs) limits their practical application by causing the appearance of ionic vacancy defects on the surface of QDs, which would then allow for significant trap-assisted non-radiative recombination of charge carriers. Herein, we explore a feasible surface modification strategy for passivating vacancy defects. Different lead salts are employed in the post-treatment procedure of quantum dot films. Based on both experimental and theoretical findings, Pb(NO3)2 passivation comprises Pb2+ and FA+. On the quantum dot surface, the O atoms from NO−3 form strong chemical bonds with FA+, and the O–C⋯O–N structure, defined by a dual-anchored configuration, contributes to the establishment of a stable crystal structure by exhibiting optimal bond lengths (3.486 Å and 3.775 Å, respectively) and a higher binding energy (10.51 eV). Finally, FAPbI3 quantum dot solar cells simultaneously achieve both exceptional environmental stability and a champion photoelectric conversion efficiency of 12.11%. This work provides valuable insights into surface chemical engineering of quantum dots, paving the way for high-performing photovoltaic devices.

Solution processing represents a widely adopted methodology for perovskite solar cell (PSC) fabrication. Nevertheless, the prevalent use of toxic solvents and anti-solvents in conventional approaches presents significant challenges for PSC commercialization. Water, as an environmentally benign solvent with exceptional Pb(NO 3 ) 2 solubility, offers a promising alternative for perovskite film preparation. However, the sluggish conversion kinetics of Pb(NO 3 ) 2 to perovskite often results in morphological imperfections and incomplete conversion, particularly detrimental to planar inverted PSCs derived from aqueous solutions, which currently exhibit limited power conversion efficiencies (PCE) of approximately 6%. To mitigate the Ostwald ripening effect induced by slow reaction kinetics and enhance the conversion efficiency of deep-layer Pb(NO 3 ) 2 and PbI 2 , this study proposes a strategy of increasing the pore size in porous Pb(NO 3 ) 2 structures. Through the incorporation of sodium dodecyl sulfonate (SDS) surfactant into the Pb(NO 3 ) 2 precursor solution, we successfully fabricated high-quality perovskite films. Comprehensive characterization revealed that SDS doping effectively modified the surface properties of Pb(NO 3 ) 2 films, accelerating their conversion to perovskite. The optimized PSCs based on SDS-modified perovskite films demonstrated improved energy level alignment, enhanced charge carrier extraction, and suppressed non-radiative recombination. Consequently, the PCE of planar inverted aqueous PSCs increased significantly from 12.27% (control devices) to 14.82% following surfactant modification. After being stored in a nitrogen glove box for 800 h, the performance of the device still remained above 90% of its original level. It can still maintain 60% of its original performance after a 100 h heating aging test at 80 degrees.

Flexible and nonpoisonous X-ray-shielding membranes supported by bacterial cellulose (BC) were prepared, in which X-ray-shielding materials were of microcapsule structure by using polyvinyl alcohol as shell and lead salt as core. The effect of the wall/core interaction and the amount of cross-linking agent were taken into consideration to find the optimal reaction conditions. The morphology, microcapsule size, and lead salt release properties were investigated. After supported by BC, the flexible and potable membranes for X-ray radiation protection were prepared and the shielding properties were evaluated, which indicated a good X-ray-shielding material. We set up a new method to prepare flexible and portable X-ray radiation protection membranes. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2016 , 133 , 43120.

Plastic scintillators inherently suffer from the limitation of low gamma-ray counting efficiency due to their low atomic number (Z). To address this, this study explored the incorporation of lead (II) nitrate (Pb(NO 3 ) 2 ), a high-Z material, into a photocurable resin. The Pb(NO 3 ) 2 -loaded plastic scintillators were fabricated using Digital Light Processing (DLP) type 3D printing, wherein dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) was employed as a co-solvent to ensure uniform dispersion of the Pb(NO 3 ) 2 within the polymer matrix. This uniform dispersion was confirmed by Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) analysis of the scintillator's cutting surface. The evaluation of scintillation properties showed that the scintillator loaded with 5 wt% of Pb(NO 3 ) 2 exhibited a gamma-ray counting efficiency for a 137 Cs source that was 1.64 times higher than that of the commercial plastic scintillator, BC408. Although the optical transmittance decreased due to the addition of Pb(NO 3 ) 2 and DMSO, the 5 wt% Pb(NO 3 ) 2 sample maintained a relative light output of 55.51% compared to BC408. Additionally, the fast timing characteristics were preserved, with the loaded scintillators exhibiting a decay time of 3.23–3.41 ns, nearly identical to that of the unloaded sample.
