In this paper, the effect of Sb 2 O 3 doping on the sintering and polarization stability of PbTiO 3 ceramics was investigated. The Sb 2 O 3 -doped PbTiO 3 ceramic materials were prepared via a conventional piezoelectric ceramic processing. The results showed that the as-prepared PbTiO 3 ceramics exhibit a good sintering stability without cracking during sintering because of reducing spontaneous strain stemmed from decrease the tetragonal degree of PbTiO 3 by Sb 2 O 3 doping. Furthermore, the polarization stability of Sb 2 O 3 -doped PbTiO 3 ceramics was considerably enhanced by the relaxation of strain and stress concentration during poling stemmed from the formation of good microstructure with fine grain and high density, and by decreasing the loss stemmed from reduction of oxygen vacancy concentration due to the substitution of Sb 5 + ions for Ti 4 + ions under a polarization condition with temperature of 130–150 ∘ C and applied electric field of 4.5–5.5 kV/mm, and its yield of polarization is achieved ca. 80%.
High-temperature piezoelectric devices require piezoelectric ceramics with high Curie temperatures and high-temperature stability of piezoelectric properties to avoid the depolarization of piezoelectric ceramics during application. However, piezoelectric materials with high Curie temperatures usually have restrained piezoelectric properties. Crystallographic orientation via texture engineering is a practicable way to improve piezoelectric performance. Here, we propose a sintering-aid-assisted template grain growth strategy to texture BiScO 3 -PbTiO 3 ceramics to overcome the low orientation issue that challenges the texturing of BS-PT for decades. By judiciously selecting B 2 O 3 -CuO as sintering aids, we fabricated highly ⟨001⟩-textured 0.43BS-0.57PT ceramics with Logtering factors >99.0% that possess high piezoelectric coefficients d 33 of 474–612 pC/N while maintaining relatively high Curie temperatures of 370–402 °C. Importantly, this work addresses a long-standing issue presented in BS-PT ceramics, i.e., the low electromechanical coupling property of BS-PT ceramics ( k 33 < 0.70) by improving the electromechanical coupling factor k 33 to 81.2%. The newly designed textured BS-PT ceramics are thought to be promising candidates for the design of high-temperature piezoelectric transducers and actuators.
PbTiO3 and CaTiO3 ceramics are prepared at temperatures above 2000°C by a direct current arc discharge technique under an argon atmosphere, and the microstructure, components and morphology of each material are investigated. Both samples show the formation of a perovskite structure. Moreover, a tetragonal phase is found in the PbTiO3 ceramic material, and a cubical phase is formed in the CaTiO3 ceramic material. In this work, PbTiO3 and CaTiO3 ceramics were rapidly prepared using a simple DC arc discharge technique; we found this technique of ceramic material synthesis was much faster and better than conventional methods. The whole reaction process only takes 30 seconds because of ultrafast kinetics of crystallization.

Ternary 0.552Pb(Ni 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 -xPbZrO 3 -(0.448-x)PbTiO 3 (PNN-PZ-PT) ceramics near the triple point compositions were fabricated by an improved two-step sintering method. The triple point composition 0.552PNN-0.135PZ-0.313PT ceramic has outstanding piezoelectric performance with piezoelectric coefficient d 33 = 1200 pC/N. Its easy fabrication and low cost make this piezoelectric material an excellent candidate for high sensitivity sensors and ultrasonic transducers. The evolution of domain structures for ceramics with composition near the triple point provides deeper insight into the mechanism of ultrahigh piezoelectric properties of PNN-PZ-PT ceramics.
