Pt-In2O3 mesoporous nanofibers with enhanced gas sensing performance towards ppb-level NO2 at room temperature

Yunshi Liu,Xing Gao,Feng Li,Geyu Lu,Tong Zhang,Nicolae Barsan

Pt-loaded In 2 O 3 mesoporous nanofibers (NFs) have been prepared by electrospinning, followed by a facile reduction method. The sample obtained by adding tea saponin into the spinning solution, sample In-TS, displays a more than 4 times higher specific surface area, value of 86.9 m 2  g −1 , than that of conventionally prepared samples. The loading with small-sized Pt nanoparticles (NPs) determines excellent gas sensing performance towards NO 2 down to ppb level (R g /R a  = 2.8 to 10 ppb and 23.9–1 ppm) at room temperature (RT), by that significantly lowering the power consumption. The reason is that the open pores and channels on the mesoporous NFs generated by the foaming agent not only promote the adsorption and desorption of NO 2 molecules on the sensing layers, but also improves the transduction function of the sensors by ensuring that there are no parts of the fiber that are not accessible to the gases. The introduction of Pt to the mesoporous NFs could accelerate the dissociation of absorbed oxygen and the active surface reactions in NO 2 owing to the catalytic property and chemical sensitization of well-dispersed Pt NPs. Due to the unique gas sensing performance, sample In-TS-Pt has a prospect for applications in low-concentration NO 2 detection at RT.

A highly active Pt/In2O3 catalyst for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol with enhanced stability

Kaihang Sun,Ning Rui,Zhitao Zhang,Zeyu Sun,Qingfeng Ge,Chang-Jun Liu

Supported Pt catalysts have been extensively investigated for CO2 hydrogenation with methane and CO as the principal products. In this work, a Pt/In2O3 catalyst prepared with decomposition precipitation was tested for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. The Pt/In2O3 catalyst exhibited a highly improved activity towards CO2 hydrogenation, with methanol selectivity of ca. 100% at temperatures below 225 °C, 74% at 275 °C and 54% at 300 °C, respectively, compared to the pure In2O3 catalyst. This represents the highest methanol selectivity reported on Pt catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation. The stability of the Pt/In2O3 catalyst at elevated temperatures has also been higher than that of the pure In2O3 catalyst, indicated by the methanol formation rate decreasing only to 95% of the initial rate after 5 h in the reaction stream and remaining largely constant thereafter. In contrast, the pure In2O3 catalyst loses 20% of the initial methanol formation rate after 9 h in the reaction stream. The characterization of the catalysts confirms that the Pt nanoparticles are well dispersed on In2O3 with a particle size below 3 nm. The strong metal–support interaction (SMSI) between Pt and In2O3 improves the stability of the catalyst and prevents the over-reduction of In2O3. The synergy between the supported Pt nanoparticles and In2O3 balances the hydrogen activation and the density of the surface oxygen vacancies in In2O3, resulting in the high activity for CO2 hydrogenation and enhanced stability of the Pt/In2O3 catalyst.

Engineering the crystal facets of Pt/In2O3 catalysts for high-efficiency methanol synthesis from CO2 hydrogenation

Tianle Shi,Yong Men,Shuang Liu,Jinguo Wang,Zhuping Li,Keye Qin,Dandan Tian,Wei An,Xiaoli Pan,Lin Li

Hydrogenation of CO 2 to methanol is an achievable way for “methanol economy” and “liquid sunshine” visions. Owing to highly tunable properties containing different morphologies, exposed crystal facets and oxygen vacancies , In 2 O 3 has become a promising material for CO 2 hydrogenation. Here we successfully introduced highly dispersed Pt 2+ species into three different morphologies In 2 O 3 supports by controllable precipitation method. The dominant exposed crystal facets of In 2 O 3 supports during the research are discovered to greatly affect the dispersion of active Pt 2+ species and the number of oxygen vacancies, as analyzed by diverse characterization techniques, and closely correlated with the catalytic performance. Compared with Pt/In 2 O 3 whcih mainly exposing (222) or (104) facet, Pt/In 2 O 3 which primarily exposed (211) facet obtained higher catalytic activity, including a CO 2 conversion of 11.7% and methanol selectivity of 74.8% with a space time yield of methanol of 0.63 g MeOH h −1 gcat −1 at 300 °C, 5 MPa, and 21,000 cm 3 h −1 g −1 . The highly enhanced activity of 1.5Pt/C-In 2 O 3 -S catalyst was ascribed to its more abundant oxygen vacancies and well-dispersed Pt 2+ species, which derived from the interaction between Pt 2+ and the underlying In 2 O 3 (211) facet. The special interface structure enabled the activation of CO 2 and hydrogenation of key intermediates effectively. Exposing the highly active crystal face of the In 2 O 3 supports is proved to be an effective strategy to enhance catalytic performance of Pt/In 2 O 3 catalyst for methanol synthesis .

Atomically dispersed Ptn+ species as highly active sites in Pt/In2O3 catalysts for methanol synthesis from CO2 hydrogenation

Zhe Han,Chizhou Tang,Jijie Wang,Landong Li,Can Li

Hydrogenation of CO 2 into methanol using the H 2 produced from renewable energy is a promising way for carbon capture and utilization. Therefore, the methanol synthesis catalysts with high methanol selectivity are highly desired. In this work, we found that the methanol selectivity of In 2 O 3 catalyst can be significantly enhanced by introducing a small amount of Pt. Methanol selectivity can be increased from 72.2% (In 2 O 3 ) to 91.1% (0.58 wt.% Pt/In 2 O 3 ) at 220 °C. The introduced Pt atoms are doped into the In 2 O 3 , forming atomically dispersed Pt n+ species, most of which are stable under working conditions. It is proposed that the atomically dispersed Pt n+ species are responsible for the enhanced methanol selectivity, while Pt nanoparticles on In 2 O 3 mainly boost the reverse water-gas shift reaction (CO 2  + H 2  → CO + H 2 O).

Experimental and theoretical study of Pd-Pt/In2O3 bimetallic catalysts for enhancing methanol production from CO2

Junxin Guo,Zhenyu Wang,Tongtong Gao,Zhao Wang

Binary Pd/In 2 O 3 and Pt/In 2 O 3 catalysts exhibit technological potential in CO 2 methanol synthesis. However, the key to achieving high productivity lies in resolving the unfavorable Pd-In alloy and Pt nanoparticles formation during the reaction. In this study, we present the surface restructuring of Pd-Pt/In 2 O 3 catalysts under CO 2 hydrogenation conditions. Detailed quasi-operando characterization and theory calculation reveal stable reconstruction driven by Pt with Pd. The bimetallic Pd-Pt inhibits the formation of both Pd-In alloy and Pt nanoparticles. Moreover, this restructuring process generates more oxygen vacancies during the reaction. These oxygen vacancies promote electron transfer from the indium oxide surface to the Pd-Pt clusters. Consequently, a shift occurs from interface-induced CO 2 adsorption to cluster-induced adsorption. Thereby, the STY of methanol on Pd-Pt/In 2 O 3 at 300 °C increased by approximately 20 % compared to that on Pd/In 2 O 3 along. The findings highlight the crucial role of component-induced restructuring and oxygen vacancies in influencing the change of adsorption sites.

Selective CO2 reduction to HCOOH on a Pt/In2O3/g-C3N4 multifunctional visible-photocatalyst

Jiehong He,Pin Lv,Jian Zhu,Hexing Li

Selective photocatalytic reduction of CO2 has been regarded as one of the most amazing ways for re-using CO2. However, its application is still limited by the low CO2 conversion efficiency. This work developed a novel Pt/In2O3/g-C3N4 multifunctional catalyst, which exhibited high activity and selectivity to HCOOH during photocatalytic CO2 reduction under visible light irradiation owing to the synergistic effect between photocatalyst, thermocatalyst, and heterojunctions. Both In2O3 and g-C3N4 acted as visible photocatalysts, in which porous g-C3N4 facilitated H2 production from water splitting while the In2O3 nanosheets embedded in g-C3N4 pores favored CO2 fixation and H adsorption onto the Lewis acid sites. Besides, the In2O3/g-C3N4 heterojunctions could efficiently inhibit the photoelectron–hole recombination, leading to enhanced quantum efficiency. The Pt could act as a co-catalyst in H2 production from photocatalytic water splitting and also accelerated electron transfer to inhibit electron–hole recombination and generated a plasma effect. More importantly, the Pt could activate H atoms and CO2 molecules toward the formation of HCOOH. At normal pressure and room temperature, the TON of HCOOH in CO2 conversion was 63.1 μmol g−1 h−1 and could reach up to 736.3 μmol g−1 h−1 at 40 atm.
