Herein, we reported the tuning of dominant products in the photocatalytic hydrogen transfer reaction over Pt/Nb 2 O 5 photocatalysts, using a support-induced modification strategy. In the photocatalytic conversion of phenylacetylene with ethanol as a probe reaction, the dominant product was styrene over Pt/2D Nb 2 O 5 nanoplates; in contrast, H 2 was the main product over the Pt/bulk Nb 2 O 5 . Compared to the metallic Pt species over bulk Nb 2 O 5 , the positively charged Pt (Pt δ+ ) species over 2D Nb 2 O 5 nanoplates contributed to the reduction of phenylacetylene, which was revealed by CO adsorbed Fourier transform infrared spectra. Furthermore, the present Pt δ+ species were due to the formation of Pt δ+ –O–Nb structure via oxygen transfer of 2D Nb 2 O 5 nanoplates, which was verified by the results of X-ray photoelectron spectra and H 2 temperature-programmed reduction. This work sheds light on the design and application of Nb-based catalysts in the transfer hydrogenation of organics in photocatalysis.

Energy shortage and environmental pollution problems force us to find low-energy consume methods to deal with volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In this work, Pt-P25 was synthesized through a simple wet impregnation method and calcination method. The study showed that different calcination temperatures and calcination atmospheres affected the activation state of Pt species, showing significant differences in the photothermal catalytic toluene oxidation reaction efficiency. The Pt-P25-800N sample activated in a nitrogen atmosphere at 800 oC exhibits better activity compared to other samples, achieving a toluene conversion rate of 95% and a mineralization rate of 65% under a light intensity of 400 mW/cm2. Characterization results demonstrate that low-valent Pt species are positively correlated with toluene oxidation activity and play a major role in the reaction. The ultraviolet (UV), visible (Vis) and infrared (IR) components in the spectrum all contribute to the toluene oxidation process. The catalytic bed is heated to the required temperature mainly through thermal effects and crosses the reaction energy barrier. The traditional photocatalytic process over TiO2 also plays an auxiliary enhancement role. Due to the efficient conversion capability of the active sites, Pt-P25-800N achieves long-term stability of at least 50 hours under low light intensity input and water vapor conditions, accompanied by minimal accumulation of intermediate products. The above results explain that the comprehensive effect between active Pt species and photothermal catalysis jointly achieves efficient degradation of VOCs and alleviates the energy and environmental crisis.

Recently, production of a clean sulfur-free fuel and related green chemical processes have attracted the attention of researchers. The development of efficient desulfurizers is an effective strategy to meet this demand. Herein, a facile method to successfully construct W18O49 nanoneedles (NNs) coupled with Pt species by a spontaneous redox reaction between reductive supports and oxidative platinum precursors was revealed. The closely arranged NNs hybrids with strong metal–support electron interaction and in situ-derived carbon are successfully constructed. The Pt species are stabilized on the defective W18O49 NNs surface, which accelerates the adsorption and activation of molecular oxygen. The monolithic catalyst promotes the oxidation conversion of dibenzothiophene in the process of catalytic reactive-type desulfurization. By adjusting the reaction conditions, the catalyst shows over 99.0% dibenzothiophene conversion at only 0.8% Pt loading, and the polar products can be completely removed by extraction. Also, the catalyst showed a relatively stable regeneration and reused performance.

Understanding the interaction between metal and the support is crucial in searching of efficient and recyclable noble metal heterogeneous catalysts. Herein, we report a core-shell structured support for Pt catalyst with a magnetic Fe 3 O 4 core and a porous silica shell bearing amino groups. The prepared catalyst Fe 3 O 4 @mSiO 2 -APTES-Pt showed a high loading of Pt (7.93 wt%) as well as a high fraction of active Pt 0 species, which both contributed to the high activity toward a model hydrosilylation reaction between 1-octene and 1, 1, 1, 3, 5, 5, 5-heptamethyltrisiloxane (HMTS). X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) analysis revealed that the amino ligands played a dominant role in Pt loading and Fe 2+ probably facilitated the formation of low valence Pt 0 . Under the combined effect of magnetic nature of the support and proper support-metal interactions, the catalyst exhibited excellent recyclability with a recovery of 99.7% and a yield of over 90% even after eight runs of recycling. This catalyst may provide a new option in designing and preparing heterogeneous catalysts that are highly recoverable, reusable, and recyclable.

Propane dehydrogenation (PDH) has been an outstanding technique with a bright prospect, which can meet the growing global demand for propylene. However, undesired side reactions result in the deactivation of the Pt-based catalysts, which contribute to the insufficient lifetime of the catalysts. Herein, we describe a novel catalyst by encapsulating bimetallic CoCu-modified Pt species in S-1 zeolite for efficient dehydrogenation of propane, which synergizes the confinement of zeolites and the geometric and electronic effects on Pt species for enhancing the catalyst stability. The introduction of bimetallic additives efficiently promotes the dispersion of platinum and the electron transfer between Pt species and the additives, which greatly prolongs the lifetime of the catalysts. Particularly, no obvious deactivation is observed on 0.2Pt0.3Co0.5CuK@S-1 after 93 h on stream with a weight hourly space velocity (WHSV) of 5.4 h −1 , revealing an ultralow deactivation constant of 0.0011 h −1 (t = 909 h). The formation rate of propylene still maintains at a high value of 407 mol g Pt -1 h −1 (WHSV = 21.6 h −1 ) at 580 ℃ even after on pure propane stream for 42 h. The catalyst with the bimetallic CoCu-modified Pt species in S-1 zeolite reveals ultra-high activity and stability for PDH, which is ascribed to the highly dispersed Pt species and the stabilization effect of bimetallic additives on Pt species.

Exploring highly efficient and low-cost supported Pt catalysts is attractive for the application of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) combustion. Herein, efficient catalytic combustion of toluene at low temperature over Pt/γ-Al 2 O 3 catalysts has been demonstrated by tailoring active Pt species spatially. Pt/γ-Al 2 O 3 catalyst with low Pt-content (0.26 wt%) containing both interfacial Pt-Al(OH) x and surficial metallic Pt (Pt 0 ) species exhibited super activity and water-resistant stability for toluene oxidation. The strong metal-support interaction located at the Al-OH-Pt interfaces elongated the Pt-O bond and contributed to the oxidation of toluene. Meanwhile, the OH group at the Al-OH-Pt interfaces had the strongest adsorption and activation capability for toluene and the derived intermediate species were subsequently oxidized by oxygen species activated by surficial Pt 0 to yield carbon dioxide and water. This work initiated an inspiring sight to the design of active Pt species for the VOCs combustion.

The elimination of light alkanes has been the subject of extensive research. Rational tuning of the surface electronic structure of catalysts can optimize the adsorption and activation behavior of reactant molecules. Therefore, the role of metal-support interactions in plasma catalysis deserves in-depth investigation. In this study, a simple strategy was employed to synthesize Pt-based catalysts loaded on Ce-based binary oxide supports. The interactions between Pt noble metal and supports were regulated by varying the metal element type of the supports and the ratio of the support metal elements. Among them, 0.3 %Pt/CeMn 0.2 O x catalyst was the most effective for the synergistic plasma degradation of propane. Various characterizations showed that the redox ability and Pt species dispersion of 0.3 %Pt/CeMn 0.2 O x catalyst were significantly enhanced by strong metal-support interactions. It induced more Pt 0 and Ce 3+ on the surface for the activation of oxygen or water vapor to generate surface reactive oxygen species. Moreover, the plasma in turn facilitated the electron transfer of Pt/CeMn 0.2 O x catalyst and enhanced the metal-support interactions. The reactive oxygen species generated by plasma participated in the oxidation of propane and the oxygen cycle of Pt/CeMn 0.2 O x catalyst, thus enhancing the synergistic catalysis. The present work provides insight into the design of catalysts with high plasma catalytic synergy.
