In this work, a highly sensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor for Chlortetracycline hydrochloride (CTC) detection was constructed. The complex of g-C 3 N 4 -chitosan (g-C 3 N 4 @CS) and Pt NPs@MIL-101(Fe) were modified to the electrode. In g-C 3 N 4 -S 2 O 8 2− system, g-C 3 N 4 served as an ECL signal. Synthesized Pt NPs@MIL-101(Fe) acted as a novel coreaction promoter of the system, further enhancing the ECL signal. With the addition of CTC, the ECL signal decreased, and this quenching phenomenon was mainly because of ECL-RET and the related mechanism was studied. Under the best conditions, a strong linear relationship was observed between the change in ECL signal (ΔI) and the logarithm of CTC concentration (lgC CTC ), spanning from 5 × 10 −14 to 5 × 10 −9 mol L −1 . The linear equation was ΔI = 16,817 + 1179.4 lgC CTC with a correlation coefficient of 0.995. The method demonstrates an exceptionally low detection limit of 1.7 × 10 −14 mol L −1 (S/N = 3), making it suitable for real sample analysis.

A facile strategy was reported to fabricate a novel Pt-based metal oxide double-shelled hollow nanospheres (MDSHs), which avoided the traditional tedious procedures. It was attractive that the formation mechanism of DSHs involved redeposition of etch-released silica species and self-assembly of metal oxide units. To verify the successful synthesis and structure features of Pt-LCDSHs catalyst, the as-prepared samples were characterized by several techniques, such as SEM, N 2 adsorption–desorption isotherm analysis, TEM, EDX, XRD and XPS. Results indicated that all of MDSHs possessed double-shelled structures with both the inner and outer shells composing of metal oxide units. Interestingly, the metal oxide of the DHSs could offer abundant active points for Pt NPs and the space between the double shells also could be filled with Pt NPs. What's more, compared with the pure samples, the Pt-embedded La 2 O 3 -CeO 2 -DSHs exhibited the highest catalytic performance (6.58 × 10 −3 min −1 ) and good reusability with a conversion of 94% even after eight cycles, which were evaluated by means of the reduction of 4-nitrophenol monitored by UV–vis spectra. Finally, a possible reaction mechanism for the reduction reaction on Pt-based La 2 O 3 -CeO 2 -DSHs was also proposed.

Establishing a simple and accurate method for Hg 2+ detection is of great importance for the environment and human health. In this work, platinum nanoparticles (Pt NPs) with different capped agents and morphologies were synthesized. It was found that Pt NPs exhibited peroxidase-like activity that can catalyze the chemiluminescence (CL) of the luminol system without H 2 O 2 . The most intensive CL signals were obtained by using PVP-capped Pt NPs as catalysis. Based on the fact that Hg 2+ could further enhance the CL intensity in the Pt NPs-luminol CL system, a Pt NPs-catalyzed CL method based on a flow injection system is developed for the sensitive analysis of Hg 2+ . When the concentration of Hg 2+ in the system increases, the CL intensity would together increase, thereby achieving sensitive Hg 2+ detection. The limit of detection (LOD) was calculated to be 8.6 nM. This developed method provides a simple and rapid approach for the sensitive detection of Hg 2+ and shows great promise for applications in other complex systems.

Chemically powered colloidal motors propelled by the self-phoretic effect have attracted widespread attention. However, the low motion efficiency and ion tolerance hinder their application in complex media. Herein, we report a scalable and simple method to synthesize 2.6 nm Platinum nanoparticles (Pt NPs) in the nanoporous wall of carbonaceous flasklike colloidal motors in a ligand-free manner. The obtained Pt NPs-modified flasklike colloidal motors (Pt-FCMs) are propelled by the catalytic decomposition of H2O2 fuels. They exhibit ultrafast mobility with an instantaneous velocity of 134 μm s−1 at 5% H2O2, which is equivalent to 180 bodylengths per second. Particularly, these Pt-FCMs have an enhanced ion tolerance, due to the higher catalytic activity of small-sized Pt NPs in the carbonaceous wall. Furthermore, the direction of motion could be reversed by adding cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. Such ultrasmall Pt NPs funtionalized flasklike colloidal motors exhibit a great potential utilization in the field of biomedicines and environmental technology.

By in situ reduction of Pt nanoparticles (Pt NPs) onto the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), Pt NPs@MWCNTs nanocomposite was successfully synthesized. Experimental results indicate the nanocomposite exhibits good NADH oxidase activity, which can generate •O 2− through O 2 and efficiently catalyze the oxidation of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) to generate biologically active NAD + . Based on this characteristic, we developed an NAD + /NADH dependent dehydrogenase electrochemical cascade biosensor for the detection of β-hydroxybutyric acid (HB) via β-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase that does not require additional redox mediators. This biosensor exhibited good performance for HB with high sensitivity and good specificity, and a wide linear range of 10 µM to 10 mM. To verify its practical application, the biosensor was applied to the detection of HB in human serum samples, which indicate the biosensor has potential for clinical diagnosis of diabetes ketoacidosis.

Mercury ions (Hg 2+ ) and silver ions (Ag + ) are assigned to the highest toxicity class of heavy metal pollution. Here, a novel sensor is firstly developed for the simultaneous detection of coexisting Ag + and Hg 2+ in aqueous solution, depending on the catalytic properties of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP)-capped platinum nanoparticle (Pt NPs) and the strong chelation of EDTA to Hg 2+ . PVP-capped Pt NPs exhibit uniform morphology and possess great intrinsic peroxidase-like activity in comparison to citrate-capped Pt NPs, PVP-capped Ru NPs and Ir NPs, attributing to the enhanced catalytic efficiency determined by loosely packed PVP and the excellent catalytic decomposition activities of H 2 O 2 . Hg 2+ and Ag + could induce remarkable inhibition of the peroxidase-like activity of Pt NPs by changing the electronic state of the active sites through metallophilic interactions. The selective and simultaneous detection of Hg 2+ and Ag + was realized via the addition of ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA), which could successfully mask Hg 2+ but had negligible effect on Ag + . The proposed approach inspires new designs of novel catalytic nanoprobes for the multi-analyte assay of heavy metal ions .

Background and Purpose Nitidine chloride (NC) is a botanical drug renowned for its potent anti-inflammatory, antimalarial, and hepatocellular carcinoma-inhibiting properties; however, its limited solubility poses challenges to its development and application. To address this issue, we have devised a colon-targeted delivery system (NC-CS/PT-NPs) aimed at modulating the dysbiosis of the gut microbiota by augmenting the interaction between NC and the intestinal microbiota, thereby exerting an effect against nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Methods The NC-CS/PT-NPs were synthesized using the ion gel method. Subsequently, the particle size distribution, morphology, drug loading efficiency, and release behavior of the NC-CS/PT-NPs were characterized. Furthermore, the impact of NC-CS/PT-NPs on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) in mice was investigated through serum biochemical analysis, ELISA, and histochemical staining. Additionally, the influence of NC-CS/PT-NPs on intestinal microbiota was analyzed using 16S rDNA gene sequencing. Results The nanoparticles prepared in this study have an average particle size of (255.9±5.10) nm, with an encapsulation rate of (72.83±2.13) % and a drug loading of (4.65±0.44) %. In vitro release experiments demonstrated that the cumulative release rate in the stomach and small intestine was lower than 22.0%, while it reached 66.75% in the colon. In vivo experiments conducted on HFD-induced NAFLD mice showed that treatment with NC-CS/PT-NPs inhibited weight gain, decreased serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and lipid levels, improved liver and intestinal inflammation, and altered the diversity of gut microbiota in mice. Conclusion This study provides new evidence for the treatment of NAFLD through the regulation of gut microbiota using active ingredients from traditional Chinese medicine.

Direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) are thought of as portable, sustainable, and non-polluting energy devices. The exploration of efficient and affordable catalysts for the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) is significant for the industrial application of DMFCs. In this study, nitrogen-doped hollow carbon spheres (HCS) derived from polydopamine were proposed for the catalyst support for platinum nanoparticles (Pt NPs) for serving as the anode catalyst for DMFCs, and a composite support material was fabricated by in-situ oxidation of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (ProDOT) with HCS to get core-shell structured poly(3,4-propylenedioxythiophene) (PProDOT)-embellished hollow carbon spheres (HCS) (PProDOT/HCS) for further improving the catalytic activity for supported catalyst. The results indicated that the platinum (Pt) on the surface of HCS was well dispersed, and the Pt became smaller and more evenly distributed with the introduction of PProDOT. Simultaneously, the Schottky junction formed between PProDOT and Pt NPs contributes to enhanced charge transfer and catalytic activity of the catalyst. Notably, the core-shell structure of the ternary catalyst, its excellent charge transfer capability, and the interaction between platinum and the support contribute to its high electrocatalytic activity. Electrochemical tests demonstrated that the PProDOT/HCS/Pt catalyst exhibited a mass activity of 1169.6 mA mg −1 Pt for methanol oxidation in acidic electrolytes, surpassing the activity of the HCS/Pt catalyst (472.4 mA mg −1 Pt ) and commercial Pt/C (281.0 mA mg −1 Pt ).

In this work, a high-performance room-temperature ammonia (NH3) gas sensor based on Pt-modified WO3–TiO2 nanocrystals was synthesized via a two-step hydrothermal method. The structural properties were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The 10 at% Pt@WO3–TiO2 nanocrystals present the highest NH3 sensing performance at room temperature. Compared with the nanocrystals without Pt modification, the sensitivity of the Pt@WO3–TiO2 sensor is tenfold higher, with the lowest concentration threshold reaching the 75 ppb level. The response is approximately 92.28 to 50 ppm, and response and recovery times are 23 s and 8 s, respectively. The improved sensing was attributed to a synergetic mechanism involving the space charge layer effect and Pt metal sensitization, enhancing the electron transfer efficiency, oxygen vacancy and specific surface area. This study is expected to guide the development of high-performance room-temperature ammonia sensors for clinical breath testing.

A highly sensitive and selective sensor is urgently needed in many practical H 2 O 2 detection, such as water quality monitoring, quality control of food products, and so on. However, the traditional three electrode system limits its further development in recent years due to its difficulty in miniaturization and integration. To effectively improve its sensitivity and selectivity, highly-ordered TiO 2 nanotube arrays (TNTAs) are modified with Pt nanoparticles and Prussian blue (PB) nanotubes and creatively combines with thin-film transistor (TFT) based on ZnO to prepare an electrochemical sensor . The sensor uses PBNCs as recognition units for the specific detection of H 2 O 2, and the generated electrical signal is amplified by TFT. Thus, a highly sensitive and selective H 2 O 2 sensor is achieved. The detection limit of the sensor is as low as 5.19 nM, which is three orders of magnitude lower than the conventional electrochemical detection methods using the same electrode. The sensor also possesses wider linear detection range of 0.1–50 μM and 50 μM–5 mM comparable to that of other reported H 2 O 2 sensors. Besides, the sensor has good selectivity for H 2 O 2 in the presence of common interferences such as ascorbic acid , uric acid , glucose, and dopamine. Furthermore, the device presents good reproducibility and exhibits good long-term stability over 27 days of continuous measurement. This study offers important insights for the rational design of sensors with high sensitivity and selectivity.

As an important component of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines, liposomes play a key role in the efficient protection and delivery of mRNA to cells. Herein, due to the controllable release amplification strategy of liposomes, a reliable and robust single-particle collision electrochemical (SPCE) biosensor was constructed for H9N2 avian influenza virus (H9N2 AIV) detection by combining liposome encapsulation-release strategy with immunomagnetic separation. The liposomes modified with biotin and loaded with platinum nanoparticles (Pt NPs) were used as signal probes for the first time. Biotin facilitated the coupling of biomolecules (DNA or antibodies) through the specific reaction of biotin-streptavidin. Each liposome can encapsulate multiple Pt NPs, which were ruptured under the presence of 1 × PBST (phosphate buffer saline with 0.05% Tween-20) within 2 min, and the encapsulated Pt NPs were released for SPCE experiment. The combination of immunomagnetic separation not only improved the anti-interference capabilities but also avoided the agglomeration of Pt NPs, enabling the SPCE biosensor to realize ultrasensitive detection of 18.1 fg/mL H9N2 AIV. Furthermore, the reliable SPCE biosensor was successfully applied in specific detection of H9N2 AIV in complex samples (chicken serum, chicken liver and chicken lung), which promoted the universality of SPCE biosensor and its application prospect in early diagnosis of diseases.

This article reports a facile and controllable one-step method to construct Pt@hollow mesoporous SiO2 (Pt@HMSiO2) nanoparticles (NPs). To enhance the catalytic activity, cerium species were impregnated into Pt@HMSiO2 NPs, fabricating highly reactive Pt–CeO2@HMSiO2 NPs. To verify the successful synthesis of the Pt@HMSiO2 and Pt–CeO2@HMSiO2 NPs, and study the influence of CeO2 species on the catalytic performance, the as-prepared NPs were characterized by several techniques, including SEM, TEM, EDX, FTIR, XRD, BET and UV-vis analyses. In this work, the reduction of 4-NP was employed as a model reaction to test the catalytic performance. Compared to Pt@HMSiO2, the Pt–CeO2@HMSiO2 NPs show higher catalytic activity, because of the co-catalysis of CeO2 NPs. However, the excess amount of CeO2 NPs would lead to a lower catalytic activity, due to the blocking of the catalyst pore. In addition, the Pt–CeO2@HMSiO2 NPs show a high thermal stability due to the protection of the SiO2 shell. Meanwhile, we have also used the reaction of propane dehydrogenation to further verify the excellent catalytic stability of Pt–CeO2@HMSiO2 NPs. This strategy is novel, albeit efficient, and can be extended to the preparation of other nanocatalysts.
