Photocatalysis is considered to be one of the possible routes to solve energy crises at a low cost. Graphitic-C 3 N 4 combined with other semiconductors at the nanoscale has demonstrated a promising potential in photocatalysis application owing to the heterojunction configuration. In this study, Ag/g-C 3 N 4 /CuNb 2 O 6 -4 (mass ratio of CuNb 2 O 6 to g-C 3 N 4 = 1:4) composites were prepared by photo-deposition of Ag particles on the hydrothermally synthesized g-C 3 N 4 /CuNb 2 O 6 -4 composites. The microstructure, morphology, and light absorption property of the photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The photocatalytic properties of photocatalysts and active species responsible for the degradation of RhB dye under visible light were investigated. After loading Ag particles on the g-C 3 N 4 /CuNb 2 O 6 -4 composites, the resulting Ag/g-C 3 N 4 /CuNb 2 O 6 -4 composites show a bandgap of ~ 2.31 eV and a significant increase in photocatalytic efficiency. In particular, the photocatalytic activity of 11% Ag/g-C 3 N 4 /CuNb 2 O 6 -4 composite (Ag mass fraction = 11%) is nearly seven times that of orthorhombic CuNb 2 O 6 and 3.8 times that of g-C 3 N 4 /CNO-4 composite. The Z-scheme heterojunction has been successfully formed in the Ag/g-C 3 N 4 /CuNb 2 O 6 -4 composites and it enhances the photocatalytic performance significantly with the best degradation efficiency of 88% after 2 h.

Herein, novel fibrous Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 /Bi 2 S 3 /MoS 2 is constructed by a simple one-step methodology for photocatalytic degradation of RhB dyes. Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 /Bi 2 S 3 /MoS 2 hybrid fibers were facilely prepared by direct hydrothermal growth of MoS 2 nanosheets on electrospun Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 nanofiber surface, during which rod-like Bi 2 S 3 was formed by in-situ ion exchange reaction between BTO and S source. The MoS 2 nanosheets with several-layer thickness uniformly are coated both on the BTO and Bi 2 S 3 surface. Remarkable enhancement of visible light absorption and photo-generated charge separation in Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 /Bi 2 S 3 /MoS 2 are achieved compared with the bare BTO nanofibers. By changing the weight ratio of Mo/S and the precursor dosage of MoS 2 , the optimized BM-150/250 sample presents 2.3 and 4.1 times higher of the photodegradation efficiency and apparent reaction rate constant, respectively, than that of pure BTO fibers after 120-min irradiation under visible light. The system pays an efficient pathway to establish ternary composite fibers providing high photocatalytic activity for other electrospun Bi-contained nanofibers.
Photocatalysis offers a green and promising strategy for light-driven pollutant degradation to address water pollution. Yet, challenges in conversion efficiency and cost-efficiency propel the search for effective metal-free photocatalysts. Here, we employ a ball milling technique using organic solvent molecules to enhance the exfoliation of g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets. Incorporating tetrahydrofuran, with its distinctive five-membered monooxygenase ring structure, endows exfoliated CN nanosheets (TCN) with remarkable electron-donating capabilities, expanding specific surface area and active sites, essential for intricate photocatalytic reactions. Comparative assessments unequivocally establish TCN's superiority, revealing a remarkable 3.6-fold enhancement in RhB dye degradation and a remarkable 99.7 % removal efficiency. TCN demonstrates rapid, complete reduction of heavy metal ions (Cr 6+ ) under natural sunlight within 10 min and exhibits a significant 2.3-fold antibiotic degradation enhancement over pristine CN . This pioneering work unveils the mechanisms behind TCN's superior photocatalytic performance, offering insights into designing advanced photocatalysts for crucial water purification applications.
