Developing high-performance nanozymes at neutral pH is extremely necessary for the application of biological and water environmental systems. RuCl3 modified hollow Co3O4 nanospheres (Ru3+-Co3O4 HNSs) were utilized to establish a colorimetric sensor for selective determination of sulfide ions (S2-). The hollow Co3O4 nanospheres after doping of Ru3+ provide large surface area and more active sites, thereby boosting the electron transport and the affinity to the substrates. Specifically, the as-prepared Ru3+-Co3O4 HNSs exhibited remarkable peroxidase-like (POD-like) activity, which can catalyze colorless 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to blue oxTMB at neutral pH condition. Furthermore, the Ru3+-Co3O4-based colorimetric sensor achieved a wide linear range (0.5-20 μM) and a low detection limit (0.051 μM) for S2- ions concentration, as well as good selectivity, reproducibility and practicability in sewage water. This research aims to boost the accuracy of S2- detection and shed light on application prospects in the water environmental fields.

Synthesization of 1H,1H,2H,2H-Perfluorooctyltrimethoxysilane through solvent-free hydrosilylation of 1H,1H,2H-perfluoro-1-octene with trimethoxysilane was efficiently conducted over the RuCl 3 ·3H 2 O catalyst. The synergistic action of Ru 3+ as the active center and the strong electronegativity of Cl − to attract the electron of the electron-donating group –OCH 3 in trimethoxysilane, activated the Si-H and thus promoted the reaction. The influences of different reaction conditions including feed order, feed ratio, catalyst dosage, reaction temperature and reaction time on the reaction yield were fully investigated, to conclude the optimized condition to achieve a yield of 86.80% was the feed of 1.2 mol trimethoxysilane per mole of 1H,1H,2H-perfluoro-1-octene, together with the addition of 9.56 × 10 −4 mol RuCl 3 ·3H 2 O per mole of trimethoxysilane, at 80 °C for 4 h; while the additive of CuCl to RuCl 3 ·3H 2 O catalyst could further improve the reaction yield at 50℃. Finally, after understanding the activity of Ru with different valence state, the reaction mechanism was also proposed.

To address the issues of low yield, high cost, and poor recyclability associated with conventional Pt-based catalysts in the hydrosilylation of fluorinated olefins , this study develops an efficient, stable, and economically sustainable RuCl 3 –FeCl 3 /C supported catalytic system . Through a systematic comparison of different supports (activated carbon, α-Al 2 O 3 , γ-Al 2 O 3 , and ZSM-5) and metal loadings, it was found that 5 wt% RuCl 3 supported on activated carbon achieved a perfluorohexylethyltrimethoxysilane (PFOT) yield of 58 % in the first cycle and maintained over 51 % after three cycles. Introducing FeCl 3 at a Ru:Fe molar ratio of 1:3 further enhanced catalytic performance, increasing the first-cycle yield to 79 % and maintaining over 76 % in subsequent cycles. XPS analysis revealed that Fe 3+ effectively suppresses the reduction of Ru 3+ to Ru 0 by forming an electronic buffer zone, thereby stabilizing the oxidation state of the active center and prolonging catalyst lifetime and selectivity. Kinetic studies confirmed that this synergistic effect reduced the apparent activation energy from 31 kJ/mol to 21 kJ/mol. Compared to existing Pt-based systems, the Ru–Fe bimetallic catalyst demonstrates a superior balance of catalytic activity , operational stability, economic feasibility , and industrial scalability.

The electron-donating effect of supports on active metals has been reported to be beneficial to improve catalytic activity of heterogenized molecule catalysts for CO 2 hydrogenation to formic acid . However, this effect has not been discussed in depth from the perspective of reaction mechanism, especially for CO 2 activation with the combination of theoretical calculations. Herein, we report a catalyst prepared via anchoring RuCl 3 on a post-synthetic modified (PSM) zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) in which linkers 3-methyl-1,2,4-triazole (Mtz) with a surplus of uncoordinated N sites have been incorporated. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that uncoordinated N sites in linkers donate additional electron-density to Ru, resulting in the decrease of energy barrier of CO 2 activation. And the RuCl 3 @ZIF-8-Mtz(0.29) catalyst containing the most Mtz ligands displayed the highest catalytic performance for the CO 2 hydrogenation to formic acid as compared to RuCl 3 @ZIF-8-Mtz(0.15) and RuCl 3 @ZIF-8.
