Graphene-like transition metal carbide [Ti 3 C 2 X 2 (X = OH and/or F)]-supported RuNi bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized from the co-reduction of ruthenium chloride and nickel chloride with Ti 3 C 2 X 2 as a stabilizer and carrier. Ti 3 C 2 X 2 -supported RuNi NPs were well dispersed in aqueous solution. The as-synthesized composites were applied as catalysts in the hydrolysis of ammonia borane (AB), which is a promising solid-state hydrogen storage material for portable fuel cell application . Results indicated that the RuNi/Ti 3 C 2 X 2 catalyst was highly active for the hydrolysis of AB at room temperature , with the highest turnover frequency number of 824.7 mol H 2 ·(mol Ru·min) −1 . The activation energy for the hydrolysis of AB in the aqueous phase reached 25.7 kJ/mol, which was lower than most of the reported values.

Peanut shell, as a widespread agricultural waste, is a biomass resource rich in lignin that has not been fully utilized. Herein, a novel and efficient hydrogenolysis process was provided for the selective decomposition of peanut shell lignin. Ru and Ni nanoparticles embedded within N-doped nanofibers were synthesized by a simple electrospinning technique and carbonized to obtain a bimetallic catalyst (Ru x Ni y -NCNFs). With the optimized catalyst of Ru 2 Ni 1 -NCNFs, 74.46 wt% of lignin oil was obtained with a char formation rate lower than 2.44 wt% at 300 °C for 3 h without an external hydrogen source . 2D-HSQC-NMR demonstrated that representative interunit linkages, such as β-O-4, β-5, and β-β, were considerably degraded during the depolymerization process. The obtained lignin oil has a narrow molecular weight distribution, low molecular weight and high burning value, indicating that it has great potential to become a high-quality aromatic fuel through subsequent upgrade processing. This study opens a novel avenue toward the exploration of highly efficient but low-cost bimetallic catalysts for lignin hydrogenolysis.

Olefin hydrogenation under mild condition is crucial and challenging for industrial applications. Herein, defective UiO-66(Ce) was constructed by using cyanuric acid as the molecular etching “scissors” and further to synthesize heterogeneous catalyst with highly dispersed RuNi nanoparticles (Ru 1 Ni 1.5 @UiO-66(Ce)-12 h). The construction of Ce-O-Ru/Ni heterogeneous interfaces and Ni–Ru bonds provide electron transfer channels from Ce-oxo clusters and Ni species to Ru species. Furthermore, the microenvironment and electronic structure of Ru 0 active sites were synergistically regulated by adjusting the content of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) defects and Ni promoter, thereby enhancing the adsorption and activation ability of H–H and C=C bonds. Therefore, Ru 1 Ni 1.5 @UiO-66(Ce)-12 h achieved dicyclopentadiene saturated hydrogenation (100% conversion) to tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene (∼ 100% selectivity) under mild condition (35 °C, 1 MPa) with only 25 min. Meanwhile, the sample exhibited excellent structural stability after 6 cycles test. This study provides a promising strategy for the rational design of remarkable noble metal-based catalysts for practical applications.
