The conventional slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPSs) provide relatively limited corrosion protection and self-healing performance for AZ31 Mg alloys. To this end, 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) was incorporated into a zirconium-based metal–organic framework UiO-66 through coordination (8-HQ@UiO-66), which was then dispersed into silicone oil to fabricate nanoparticle-enhanced-SLIPSs (8-HQ@UiO-66-SLIPSs). Especially, the influences of 8-HQ@UiO-66 concentration on the surface morphology, surface hydrophobicity, and corrosion resistance were studied. It was found that the surface hydrophobicity first increased and then decreased with increasing concentration, showing the highest water contact angle of 121.2° at a concentration of 1 mg mL–1 (8-HQ@UiO-66-SLIPS-1). This was attributed to the development of well-constructed hierarchical micro/nanostructures. Moreover, it also exhibited the best anticorrosion property, with the lowest corrosion current density of 1.24 × 10–10 A cm–2 and the highest impedance modulus of 9.88 × 108 Ω cm2 at 0.01 Hz, primarily associated with the synergistic interaction of 8-HQ and UiO-66. Further, the self-healing performance was evaluated using the scanning vibration electrode technique (SVET), verifying the superior self-healing performance of 8-HQ@UiO-66-SLIPS-1. Hence, the nanoparticle-enhanced-SLIPSs exhibit considerable potential in the corrosion protection of Mg alloys, thereby accelerating their extensive applications in industry.

Slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPSs) inspired by Nepenthes have attracted much attention owing to their potential application in various cutting-edge fields. However, the performance of SLIPSs is impeded by surface damage and lubricant depletion, thereby limiting their further application. Herein, a UV-responsive slippery surface (SMEMG) was fabricated by introducing the UV-responsive functional group coumarin into the polymer side chain through random copolymerization, followed by crosslinking, curing and impregnation with vegetable oil. The self-healing ability and lubricant self-replenishing performance of the SMEMG were investigated. The results show that upon exposure to UV light, the damaged surface substrate can be repaired through a reversible photodimerization reaction between coumarin groups. Meanwhile, the lubricant oil within the bulk of the SMEMG substrate can be extruded to the surface during the photodimerization reaction, facilitating the recovery of surface wettability. The SMEMG exhibited excellent self-cleaning and anti-algal properties as well as durability in a harsh environment, demonstrating its promising application in marine anti-fouling.

Anti-corrosion and anti-biofouling CaCO 3 -based SLIPSs are constructed on Mg alloy. • All SLIPSs own highly stable surface hydrophobicity than hydrophobic surface under static and dynamic conditions. • SSO and FSO-infused coatings exhibited much better mechanical stability in terms of hydrophobicity. • SSO-infused coating possesses the highest corrosion resistance for Mg substrate. • All SLIPSs can effectively inhibit the adhesion of microorganisms on the surface. Magnesium and its alloys exhibit unique advantages in mechanical properties due to the low density and high specific strength. However, fast corrosion and poor resistance to biofouling largely limit their extensive applications. In this study, a multi-layer protective strategy is proposed, composed of a calcium carbonate porous bottom layer, a hydrophobic surface (HS) via modification and a slippery liquid-infused porous surface (SLIPS). This composite structure can remarkably inhibit the penetration of corrosive media and maintain the stability of surface hydrophobicity owning to the retention of infused oil into porous CaCO 3 coating and the physical barrier against corrosive solution. The results revealed that the static water contact angle of SLIPS-coated Mg alloy exceeds 90°, demonstrating excellent hydrophobicity. Meanwhile, stability tests and electrochemical measurements verified significantly improved corrosion resistance for SLIPS samples than the bare substrate, and the SLIPSs can maintain long-term hydrophobic performance in simulated seawater. Bacterial adhesion assays demonstrated that the coverage rates of E. coli and S. aureus on the SLIPSs dropped below 0.25%, revealing a remarkably anti-biofouling ability. These presented results provide an innovative solution and implementation approach for maintaining the long-term corrosion resistance and anti-biofouling stability for Mg alloys. Slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPSs) have become an effective method to provide materials with sliding performance and, thus, achieve liquid repellency, through the process of infusing lubricants into the microstructure of the surface. However, the construction of microstructures on high-strength metals is still a significant challenge. Herein, we used a femtosecond laser with a temporally shaped Bessel beam to process NiTi alloy, and created uniform porous structures with a microhole diameter of around 4 µm, in order to store and lock lubricant. In addition, as the lubricant is an important factor that can influence the sliding properties, five different lubricants were selected to prepare the SLIPSs, and were further compared in terms of their sliding behavior. The temperature cycle test and the hydraulic pressure test were implemented to characterize the durability of the samples, and different liquids were used to investigate the possible failure under complex fluid conditions. In general, the prepared SLIPSs exhibited superior liquid repellency. We believe that, in combination with a femtosecond laser, slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces are promising for applications in a wide range of areas. Keywords:SLIPS;femtosecond laser;NiTi alloy;liquid repellency;sliding performance
