This study used a ternary Na 2 O-B 2 O 3 -SiO 2 matrix to simulate the immobilization of complex TRPO waste. The study investigated the relationship between the solidified bodies with different TRPO waste contents and their solid solubility, FT-IR, Vickers hardness, and density. The study found that the maximum amount of TRPO waste that can be immobilized in the Na 2 O-B 2 O 3 -SiO 2 matrix was 20 wt .%. When the TRPO waste content ranged from 5-15 wt .%, it was primarily immobilized in the glassy phase. When the TRPO waste content exceeded 20 wt .%, the crystalline phases NdBO 3 and Na 3 Nd(BO 3 ) 2 , which contain the main waste element Nd appeared. Samples containing 20 wt .% TRPO waste resulted in leaching of 10 -6 g·m -2 ·d -1 . The presence of NdBO 3 and Na 3 Nd(BO 3 ) 2 crystals resulted in a decrease in the Vickers hardness and density of the samples. The highest values for Vickers hardness and density were 6.77 GPa and 2.7 g -1 cm -3 , respectively. The borosilicate matrix utilized in this study has proven to be an effective immobilization of complex TRPO wastes and holds promise as a treatment matrix for TRPO wastes.
A simple hydrothermal procedure is introduced, which leads to the successful synthesis of a new composite material with fine CeO 2 -ZrO 2 nanocrystallites embedded in amorphous and porous SiO 2 matrices. The composite material possesses an extraordinary high thermal stability. After being calcined at 1000 °C, it retains CeO 2 -ZrO 2 nanocrystallites of the size around 5 nm, a BET-specific surface area of 165 m 2 /g, and an oxygen storage capacity of 468 μmol/g. No phase segregation for CeO 2 -ZrO 2 nanocrystallites is detected and the SiO 2 matrices remain not crystallized. The composite material shows a great potential as a support of three-way catalyst, as evidenced in catalytic tests with supported Pt.

Mono-dispersed and uniform SrMoO 4 :0.1Eu nanoparticles have been synthesized using a thermal decomposition technique. The prepared SrMoO 4 :0.1Eu nanoparticles have narrower size distribution than the particles synthesized previously using other preparation techniques. In order to improve the photocatalytic performance of SrMoO 4 -based materials, the SrMoO 4 :0.1Eu nanoparticles were also diluted in an amorphous SiO 2 matrix with different concentrations of SrMoO 4 :0.1Eu nanoparticles. Although crystalline SiO 2 is an insulator and has no photocatalytic activity due to its intrinsic properties, the results suggested that the current SrMoO 4 :0.1Eu nanoparticles diluted in amorphous SiO 2 exhibited enhanced photocatalytic performance in the degradation process of methyl blue. Large absorption in the visible and ultraviolet light was observed by the UV–vis absorbance spectra. The smallest energy gap in these samples was found to be 2.0 eV. In particular, the photodegradation efficiency of methyl blue over SrMoO 4 -based samples was up to about 88% in 60 min when the quantitative ratio of SrMoO 4 :0.1Eu and SiO 2 was fixed to be 1:2, respectively. By synthesizing the undiluted and SiO 2 diluted SrMoO 4 :0.1Eu samples, this work provides an effective technique to improve the photocatalytic activity of SrMoO 4 -based materials, especially SrMoO 4 :0.1Eu nanoparticles.
