The corrosion and wear of metals have long been persistent challenges for researchers and engineers. This work aims to develop a coating with long-term corrosion resistance, while addressing the poor wear resistance of epoxy coatings. 2D Siloxene (S) nanosheets were prepared using the topochemical method. Using S nanosheets as carriers, a core-shell structure with MoS₂ encapsulating S nanosheets was constructed via a hydrothermal method, endowing the coating with high barrier properties and wear resistance. To further strengthen the long-term corrosion resistance of the coating and improve the compatibility between the core-shell structure and EP resin, a layer of tannic acid was uniformly loaded onto the surface of the core-shell structure through a one-pot coprecipitation method. A systematic investigation was conducted on the corrosion and wear resistance of the coating. The results reveal that the composite coating, exhibiting outstanding corrosion resistance, also shows remarkable wear resistance. The |Z| 0.01 Hz of the composite coating increased from 8.4 × 10⁸ Ω•cm² to 9.62 × 10 9 Ω•cm 2 , with the wear rate dropping by 72.5 %. This investigation yields valuable guidance for the construction of coatings with long-term corrosion resistance, simultaneously providing a new perspective on the application of S nanosheets.

Abstract The widespread deployment of flexible supercapacitors in wearable electronics remains hindered by their insufficient specific capacitance and inadequate long-term cycling stability. In this study, a poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)@siloxene (PEDOT@SiXNS) composite was prepared via a facile chemical oxidative polymerization method, and symmetric supercapacitors were constructed using carbon cloth as the flexible substrate. Characterization results showed that the PEDOT@SiXNS composite electrode exhibited a high specific capacitance of 396.4 F g–1 at 0.5 A g–1, outperforming pure SiXNS and PEDOT. This enhanced performance is attributed to the synergy between SiXNS and PEDOT:SiXNS serves as a high-surface area scaffold with abundant active sites for efficient ion adsorption, while PEDOT forms a continuous conductive network to accelerate charge transfer kinetics. The fabricated device retained 96.5% of its initial capacitance after 10,000 cycles at 5 A g–1, with stable electrochemical performance under 0–180° bending, benefiting from the composite’s structural stability, which arises from PEDOT’s excellent film-forming ability and SiXNS’s rigid two-dimensional (2D) mechanical scaffold. This synergistic mechanism provides a new strategy for developing high-performance silicon-based flexible energy storage devices for wearable electronics.

Silicon suboxides (SiO x , 0 < x < 2) have been shown commercial prospect in lithium-ion batteries because of relative high capacity and mild volume expansion. However, few methods are available to prepare oxygen-tunable SiO x . Herein, we introduce a bottom up strategy to realize the consecutively regulation of oxygen content in SiO x via stepwise oxidizing silicane/siloxene precursor. Experimental results show that x value rapidly increases up to 1.5 and then rises extremely to 2.0 with minor slope. Furthermore, theory calculations indicate oxygen is preferentially inserted into Si–Si bonds to form buckled Si–O–Si limited to SiO 1.5 H with higher driving force than the following Si–OH formation which is well consistent with the experimental results. Virtually, nominal SiO x is substantially the mixture of Si, SiO 0.5 , SiO, SiO 1.5 and SiO 2 with SiO 1.5 as the predominate component. Among the representative SiO x samples, SiO 1.47 exhibits the optimal electrochemical performance with reversible capacity of around 700 mAh g −1 and almost 100% capacity retention at 0.5C (1C = 1500 mA g −1 ) after 300 cycles because of higher Li-ions diffusivity and less fracture. In addition, 95.4% capacity retention is achieved after 100 cycles at 0.2C in full-cell system.

Two-dimensional silicon-based materials have unique physical and chemical properties due to high surface area and quantum confinement effects. Herein, a topochemical reaction method is used for preparing silicene quantum dots confined in few layer siloxene nanosheets with FeCl3·6H2O as oxidant, which shows a thickness less than 2 nm. The experimentally prepared siloxene nanosheets are dispersible, with silicene quantum dots having an average diameter less than 5 nm. The silicene quantum dots are self-organized through the oxidation of FeCl3, showing unique optical properties of blue emission. The UV–visible absorption and PL emission spectra indicate the quasi-direct band gap transition to the emission. Besides, the few-layer siloxene nanosheets with silicene quantum dots have a radiative lifetime of 1.098 ns at an emission wavelength of 435 nm, which derives from the quasi-direct band transition of silicene quantum dots. Such two-dimensional nanosheets of silicon possess potential applications for the emitting layer materials of blue light-emitting diodes (LED).

Siloxene (Sic) flakes are two-dimensional silicon-based materials that have been extensively investigated in the domains of batteries, supercapacitors , and electrocatalysis , with essentially no research in the domain of corrosion and wear resistance performance of metal coatings . In this study, Sic sheets were prepared through topological chemical exfoliation and applied to epoxy (EP) resin systems for the first time. The effects of Sic sheets on the corrosion and wear resistance performance of the composite coatings were explored. To improve the enhancement effect of Sic on the tribological properties and corrosion resistance of the composite coatings, molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ), which exerts a self-lubricating effect and an enhanced interfacial effect, was grown on the surface of Sic using a hydrothermal method . The corrosion resistance and tribological properties of the prepared composite coatings were characterized through electrochemical impedance spectroscopy , polarization curve analysis, and friction and wear tests. The results indicated that the composite coating containing 0.75 wt% siloxene@MoS 2 (Sic@MS) has the best corrosion resistance and tribological properties. Compared with the pure EP coating, the wear rate of the Sic@MS coating with the aforementioned concentration was reduced by 67 %. Furthermore, the impedance module value at 0.01 Hz was increased by three orders of magnitude and the corrosion current density was reduced by three orders of magnitude after 60 days of immersion in NaCl solution. The above results provide a new idea for the application of Sic materials.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) electrosynthesis via the two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (2e− ORR) represents a green alternative to the energy-intensive anthraquinone process. However, the practical application of this method is limited by the lack of cost-effective and high-performance electrocatalysts. Reported here is a hybrid catalyst composed of nickel (Ni) clusters immobilized onto the surface of two-dimensional siloxene nanosheets (Ni/siloxene), which exhibits excellent efficiency and selectivity in electrocatalytic oxygen reduction to H2O2 in an alkaline medium, demonstrating a standard 2e− pathway with >95% H2O2 selectivity across a wide potential range. Experimental results disclose that the high performance of Ni/siloxene can be traced to a synergy of the Ni clusters and the oxygen-rich surface of siloxene. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations further reveal a weakened interaction between Ni/siloxene and *OOH and the consequently reduced energy barrier for the *OOH protonation toward H2O2 desorption, thus leading to a high 2e− ORR reactivity and selectivity. This work provides a valuable and practical guidance for designing high-performance 2e− ORR electrocatalysts based on the rational engineering of the metal–support interaction.

In this work, we reported the synthesis of siloxene catalysts from calcium silicide at various topotactic reaction conditions and demonstrated their photocatalytic activity for Cr(VI) reduction under visible light irradiations. The topotactic reaction time influenced the surface area, structure, and optical characteristics of the siloxene, which altered the Cr(VI) photocatalytic elimination efficiency. A large specific surface area (47.04 m 2 g −1 ) and a narrow bandgap (2.45 eV) with hydroxyl-terminated layered silicon of the S-12 h catalyst could enable more active sites for photocatalytic reaction, which results in the improved catalytic performance for Cr(VI) removal. The Density Functional Theory calculations proved the siloxene’s direct bandgap feature and narrow bandgap. The initial Cr(VI) concentration, solution pH, temperature, inert gas, and different scavenger's effects on the photocatalytic performance of the S-12 h catalyst were also investigated. The S-12 h photocatalyst exhibited the Cr(VI) reduction efficiency of 98.6% for the electroplating wastewater that demonstrates the potential application in industrial for treatment of heavy metal ions removal.

Silicon oxides (SiO x ) have been widely recognized as a highly potential material for anodes in advanced lithium-ion batteries due to their remarkable reversible capacity. Nonetheless, the commercial utilization of SiO x anodes is still impeded by their low inherent electrical conductivity and substantial volumetric fluctuations. Herein, a layer-by-layer structure, composited of two-dimensional (2D) SiO x and nitrogen-doped carbon, is fabricated as a robust lithium-ion battery anode via the thermal pyrolysis of in situ formed siloxene/polyaniline. Nitrogen-doped carbon is distributed across both the interlayer and surface of 2D SiO x , yielding the composite anode with a stable electrode interface, superior structural integrity, and enhanced electrical conductivity. Therefore, the optimized 2D SiO x /nitrogen-doped carbon anode presents high reversible capacity (957.8 mAh/g at 0.1 A/g), ideal rate capability, and excellent cycling performance (696.4 mAh/g after 300 cycles at 1.0 A/g and 217.5 mAh/g over 1000 cycles at 5.0 A/g). This work provides a novel and simple approach to making 2D SiO x anodes hybridize with carbonaceous materials for lithium-ion batteries.

Constructing a stable and robust solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) has a decisive influence on the charge/discharge kinetics of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), especially for silicon-based anodes which generate repeated destruction and regeneration of unstable SEI films. Herein, a facile way is proposed to fabricate an artificial SEI layer composed of lithiophilic chitosan on the surface of two-dimensional siloxene, which has aroused wide attention as an advanced anode for LIBs due to its special characteristics. The optimized chitosan-modified siloxene anode exhibits an excellent reversible cyclic stability of about 672.6 mAh g −1 at a current density of 1000 mA g −1 after 200 cycles and 139.9 mAh g −1 at 6000 mA g −1 for 1200 cycles. Further investigation shows that a stable and LiF-rich SEI film is formed and can effectively adhere to the surface during cycling, redistribute lithium-ion flux, and enable a relatively homogenous lithium-ion diffusion. This work provides constructive guidance for interface engineering strategy of nano-structured silicon anodes.

Siloxene as a new type of 2D material has wide potential applications due to its special structure. Especially, as anode for lithium-ion batteries, siloxene shows promising prospect due to its small volume change and low diffusion pathway. However, the unstable solid electrolyte interphase and low electronic conductivity lead to the low Coulombic efficiency, poor rate capability, and limited cycling performance. To settle the problems, a thin porous covalent organic framework (COF) coating layer is designed by in situ growth on micro-sized siloxene. With the inherent ionic conductive and electrolyte compatible advantages of COF, the engineered siloxene demonstrates superior electrochemical performance with 96% capacity retention at 8 A g −1 for 1500 cycles.

Multidimensional nanocomposites integrate smart protection and physical barriers to prolong the service life of water-based self-healing coatings. Herein, polyaniline (PANI) and phytic acid (PA) were efficiently loaded onto siloxene sheets via a facile one-pot strategy to fabricate a nanocomposite with barrier and dual-release properties, which was introduced into water-based epoxy coating. As a modifier, PA greatly improved the dispersion of fillers and further enhanced the barrier performance and self-healing ability of the composite coating. Electrochemical impedance tests were adopted to evaluate the anticorrosion behavior of the as-prepared coating on low-carbon steel in 3.5% NaCl solution. The SPA-reinforced EP coating delivers outstanding long-term corrosion resistance, whose low-frequency impedance modulus (|Z| 0.01 Hz ) is three orders of magnitude higher than that of pure EP after 60 days of saltwater immersion. The superior performance originates from favorable filler-matrix interfacial compatibility, passivation film barrier effect and metal complexation. Salt spray tests also verify its reliable self-healing protection after coating damage. It is certain that this will provide an effective approach for improving the long-term application of water-based epoxy coatings in marine environments.
