Rare-earth zirconate is one of the most promising candidate materials for the next generation thermal barrier coatings . However, at high temperatures the thermal conductivity of the rare-earth zirconate increases because of radiation. NiCr 2 O 4 , which can absorb the infrared photons intensely, was introduced to reduce the radiative thermal conductivity of Sm 2 Zr 2 O 7 . NiCr 2 O 4 and Sm 2 Zr 2 O 7 powders were prepared by coprecipitation method. The bulks of Sm 2 Zr 2 O 7 – x vol% NiCr 2 O 4 ( x =0, 5, 10, 15 and 20) composites were prepared by non-pressure sintering. The phase, microstructure and composition of the samples were characterized. The absorptivity and the thermal conductivity of the composites were also tested. The absorptivity of the composites was enhanced as increasing the content of NiCr 2 O 4 . The total thermal conductivities of the composites were higher than that of pure Sm 2 Zr 2 O 7 , but the recovery of the thermal conductivity of rare-earth zirconate was relived or disappeared in the testing temperature range.
Flexible La-doped Sm2Zr2O7/polyurethane (PU) coated leather composites were synthesized using a one-step hydrothermal method, with highly efficient photocatalytic degradation properties by coating the La-doped Sm2Zr2O7/PU emulsion onto the leather and drying it. The phase composition and optical properties of the as-prepared photocatalytic material were systematically characterized. The result revealed that La was doped in Sm2Zr2O7successfully, and the prepared samples still possessed pyrochlore structure. The absorption edge of the prepared samples exhibited a red-shift with the increase in La doping, indicating that La doping could broaden the absorbance range of the La-doped Sm2Zr2O7materials. The catalytic performance of La-doped Sm2Zr2O7/PU composite emulsion coating on the photocatalytic performance of leather was studied with Congo red solution as the target pollutant. The results showed that the best photocatalytic property was found in the 5% La-doped Sm2Zr2O7nanomaterial at a concentration of 3 g/L. The resulting 5% La-doped Sm2Zr2O7nanomaterial exhibited a high specific surface area of 73.5 m2/g. After 40 min of irradiation by a 450 W xenon lamp, the degradation rate of Congo red reached 93%. Moreover, after surface coating, the La-doped Sm2Zr2O7/PU coated leather composites showed obviously improved mechanical properties, as the tensile strength of La-doped Sm2Zr2O7/PU coated leather composites increased from 6.3 to 8.4 MPa. The as-prepared La-doped Sm2Zr2O7/PU coated leather composites with enhanced mechanical properties and highly efficient photocatalytic performance hold promising applications in the treatment of indoor volatile organic compounds.
Sm 2 Zr 2 O 7 and Gd 2 Zr 2 O 7 are two promising transparent ceramic materials with high density and effective atomic number. However, the phase diagram of Gd 2 O 3 -Sm 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 system has not been systematically studied. To determine the phase relationship of the ternary system Gd 2 O 3 -Sm 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 at 1600°C and 1400°C, a serious of ceramic samples were prepared and studied by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope , and electron probe microanalysis . In the range of 66.6 mol.% ZrO 2 , the solubility of Gd 2 O 3 is 20–22.5 mol.% at 1600°C, and the binary intermediate phases Sm 2 Zr 2 O 7 and Gd 2 Zr 2 O 7 form a continuous solid solution at 1400°C. Using the experimental data as a foundation, thermodynamic modeling was performed using the approach. Based on the experimental data, the mixing parameters of fluorite , B and C phases were optimized, and thermodynamic modeling was performed using the CALPHAD (CALculation of PHAse Diagram) method. For the first time, a self-consistent database for Gd 2 O 3 -Sm 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 ternary system was established.
During flight, many silicates (sand, dust, debris, fly ash, etc.) are ingested by an engine. They melt at high operating temperatures on the surface of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) to form calcium-magnesium-aluminum-silicate (CMAS) amorphous settling. CMAS corrodes TBCs and causes many problems, such as composition segregation, degradation, cracking, and disbanding. As a new generation of TBC candidate materials, rare-earth zirconates (such as Sm 2 Zr 2 O 7 ) have good CMAS resistance properties. The reaction products of Sm 2 Zr 2 O 7 and CMAS and their subsequent changes were studied by the reaction of Sm 2 Zr 2 O 7 and excess CMAS at 1350 °C. After 1 h of reaction, Sm 2 Zr 2 O 7 powders were not completely corroded. The reaction products were Sm-apatite and c-ZrO 2 solid solution. After 4 h of reaction, all Sm 2 Zr 2 O 7 powders were completely corroded. After 24 h of reaction, Sm-apatite disappeared, and the c-ZrO 2 solid solution remained.
