A silica-based adsorbent (P507@COF-TpAzo/SiO 2 ) with nitrogen and phosphorus donors was prepared for industrial separation and recovery of Sn(IV) by in-situ growth of covalent organic framework (COF) on a silica substrate combined with vacuum impregnation. The materials were tested and analyzed by the scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and other characterization techniques, which demonstrated that the adsorbent has an enormous specific surface area, excellent heat resistance, and a regular morphological structure. The static experimental results showed that the adsorbent displayed remarkable selectivity for Sn(IV) in high HCl and HNO 3 concentration environments, with excellent kinetics (∼60 min) and outstanding adsorption capacities (60.02 mg/g in 3 M HCl, 92.59 mg/g in 3 M HNO 3 ) in different media at 3 M acidity. Cycle performance testing demonstrated that the adsorbent exhibited excellent stability (cycle times ≥8). Analysis using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed that the synergistic adsorption results of N and P were reflected, mainly by the synergistic complexation of P=O and N=N-C. The potential sites for the adsorption of the adsorbent towards Sn(IV) were predicted by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, and the adsorbent demonstrated a more stable binding energy with Sn(IV). Finally, dynamic separation and efficient enrichment (>210) of Sn(IV) in highly acidic wastewater were realized by designing a penetrating column separation process. P507@COF-TpAzo/SiO 2 satisfied the requirements of the dynamic adsorption experiments, bridging the research gap of dynamic separation, and provides a new strategy for the industrial removal and recovery of Sn(IV), as well as a way for environmental protection and industrial green production.

As the oxidative stress is related to human aging and many diseases, a diversity of antioxidant biomimetic enzymes to eliminate reactive oxygen species in vivo and maintain the redox balance has attracted intensive attention. Of particular interest are superoxide dismutase (SOD)-mimicking artificial enzymes that bear inherent characteristics of natural counterparts but overcome their deficiencies in thermal and acidic stability. Inspired by the metallized active center of natural SODs, here, we engineered different groups of metalloporphyrins and found that Sn-metallized porphyrins can act as novel SOD mimics, in which Sn-metallized meso-tetra(4-carboxyphenyl) porphine (Sn-TCPP) can more effectively catalyze the disproportionation of superoxide radical anions (•O2–) into hydrogen peroxide and oxygen. Especially, Sn-TCPP-based metal–organic frame nanozyme (Sn-PCN222) displays an unusually high catalytic activity that remarkably exceeds those of commonly used counterparts. Such unprecedented catalytic behaviors are proposed to depend on the Sn(IV)/Sn(II) transition at the center of Sn-TCPP. In addition, the metal–organic framework (MOF) nanozymes also display higher thermal and acidic stability than natural SODs. Interestingly, we find that Sn-complexed methylated tetra-(4-aminophenyl) porphyrin shows an aggregation-induced SOD activity in an acidic environment, whereas conventional SOD mimics do not function well in this case. Given these unique features, our reported Sn-porphyrin-based nanozymes would be potent alternatives for natural SODs to be widely used in clinical treatments of oxidative stress-related diseases.

In view of the important influence of Sn 4+ and ascorbic acid (AA) on environmental pollution and human health, the establishment of an effective method to achieve rapid and highly sensitive detection is urgently needed. Herein, orange fluorescent (FL) carbon dots (CDs) were successfully prepared from 1,2,4,5-benzenetetramine tetrahydrochloride and thiourea via solvothermal approach. CDs can serve as FL sensors for detecting Sn 4+ and AA, the detection limit is 0.13 and 0.41 μM, respectively, through a signal on–off–on mode. Furthermore, the practicability of CDs nanoprobes is validated by the successful identification of Sn 4+ and AA in live cells, real water samples and medicine. The present work comfirms the feasibility of employing CDs as FL probes to effectively and selectively detect Sn 4+ and AA, which presents a potential approach for on-site detection of Sn 4+ and AA in various environment and biological systems with exceptional sensitivity.

Low-dimensional hybrid metal halides are an emerging class of materials with highly efficient photoluminescence (PL), but the problems of poor stability remain challenging. Sn(IV)-based metal halides show robust structure but exhibit poor PL properties, and the structure–luminescence relationship is elusive. Herein, two Sn(IV)-based metal halides (compounds 1 and 2) with the same constituent ((C6H16N2)SnCl6) but different crystal structures have been prepared, which however show poor PL properties at room temperature due to the absence of active ns2 electrons. To improve materials’ PL properties, Sb3+ with active 5s2 electrons was embedded into the lattice of Sn4+-based hosts. As a result, efficient emissions were achieved for Sb3+-doped compounds 1 and 2 with a maximum PL efficiency of 14.28 and 62%, respectively. Experimental and calculation results reveal that the smaller distorted lattice structure of the host could result in the blueshift of the emission from Sb3+. Thus, a tunable color from red to orange was realized. Benefiting from the broadband efficient emission from Sb3+-doped compound 2, an efficient white light-emitting diode with a high color rendering index of up to 92.3 was fabricated to demonstrate its lighting application potential. This work promotes the understanding of the influence of robust Sn(IV)-based host lattice on the PL properties of Sb3+, advancing the development of environmentally friendly, low-cost, and high-efficiency Sn(IV)-based metal halides.

A simple and highly efficient one-pot synthesis protocol for producing isopropyl levulinate (IPL) in cascade reactions of furfural (FAL) with 2-propanol was established using dual-acidic Keggin-type polyoxometalates (POMs) with adjustable acid properties. The dual-acidic POMs were synthesized via an ion-exchange strategy, where the H ions of Keggin-type heteropoly acid were partially replaced with metal chlorides. By varying the transition metal elements and Keggin units, the Lewis and Brønsted acid (LA and BA) properties of the prepared catalysts could be finely tuned, which can avoid the poor synergistic effect of traditional multi-component catalytic systems and the poor catalytic activity and selectivity caused by the lack of regulation of the LA and BA properties in the catalytic transfer hydrogenation (CTH)-alcoholysis cascade reactions. This work exhibited the highest FAL conversion of 95.4 % and IPL yield of 91.6 % over Sn 0.25 H 2 PW 12 O 40 at 443 K for 120 min, with a low activation energy ( E a ) of 32.74 kJ mol −1 , outperforming compared to traditional and commercial catalysts. The advantages of the strong LA acidity of Sn(IV) species and suitable ratio of LA-to-BA sites accelerated both the CTH and alcoholysis reaction processes. More importantly, the well synergistic effect of multiple active centers on clusters significantly played a crucial role in boosting catalytic performance. A plausible reaction mechanism was proposed based on experimental results, isotope tracing analysis, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The catalytic performance of Sn 0.25 H 2 PW 12 O 40 remained unchanged after four cycles, which exhibited potential applications in one-pot cascade reactions. This study highlights the great potential of multifunctional Keggin-type POMs-based systems with multiple active centers for one-pot efficient conversion of biomass resources.

CuSn-codoped CdS (CdS:CuSn) quantum dots (QDs) with different Cu(I) and Sn(IV) doping levels have been successfully synthesized by a simple one-pot procedure. It was found that the doping ratio of Cu(I) and Sn(IV) in CdS QDs significantly affected the photoluminescence (PL) quantum yields (QYs), Stokes shifts, and emission window of as-prepared QDs. Compared to single Cu doping, CuSn codoping further significantly improved the PL QYs of as-prepared QDs (up to 24.6%). The CdS:CuSn QDs may be used as potential emitters in the PL industry.

Precise separation and dynamic enrichment of Sn(IV) from complex strongly acidic waste liquids are important for strategic metal recovery, but remain challenging because high acidity and competing ions can severely weaken adsorption selectivity. Herein, a covalent phosphazene-based silica composite adsorbent, CPP-O/SiO 2 , was prepared through the in situ solvothermal polymerization of cyanuric acid and hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene on porous SiO 2 . The SiO 2 support preserved a regular spherical morphology and favorable column adaptability, while the CPP-O network supplied abundant N/O coordination sites. CPP-O/SiO 2 retained high Sn(IV) removal efficiencies above 95% in 0.5–1 M HNO 3 and achieved approximately 98% Sn(IV) removal in a simulated acidic multi-ion matrix mimicking waste printed circuit board (WPCB) leachate/high-level liquid waste (HLLW). Adsorption equilibrium was reached within 120 min, and the saturated adsorption capacity reached 188.41 mg/g at 318 K. Fixed-bed column experiments further demonstrated selective dynamic retention and enrichment of Sn(IV) from simulated HLLW, giving an enrichment factor of approximately 116 after elution with 0.1 M NaOH and maintaining stable performance over eight adsorption–desorption cycles. FT-IR, XPS, and DFT analyses revealed that Sn(IV) capture was mainly governed by synergistic coordination involving O and N sites, especially Sn O interactions. This work provides a robust covalent composite adsorbent for selective Sn(IV) recovery from strongly acidic multi-ion media.
